Good articles on underappreciated Black talent, Jim. However, why is it that very few ever mention the beautiful and talented (if emotionally troubled) Dorothy Dandridge?

When I was about 10 or 11 years old, my Mom and me were walking on 7th Avenue in New York City about a block from 125th Street, the Black shopping mecca.

Suddenly Mom shouted, "There's Dorothy Dandridge!" I turned my attention toward where she was pointing and there she was, walking into the famous Theresa Hotel.

I got only the briefest look at her, but I can tell you that was one beautiful woman. I dreamed of her for a full two weeks.
