OBAMA'S BUFFETT RULE IS "FRENCH PASTRY"

The king of income redistribution is at it again for the umpteenth time.  It’s not like we haven’t heard this “spread the wealth around” pitch from Obama before as he keeps pounding away at those darn rich people who dare to work hard to expand their businesses so we can have job growth through free enterprise and avoid the pitfalls of socialism.

How many times do we have to listen to this guy crab about the Buffett rule where big Warren pays taxes at a lower rate than his secretary?  I think he is out of ammunition and like the television shows, he is heading into his summer reruns.

It looks like his ideas about the economy and taking from the rich aren’t going over so well.  A current Washington Post /ABC News poll shows 44% endorsing Obama’s handling of the economy while 54% disapprove.  On the other hand, the same poll shows that 47% trust Romney with the economy over Obama who has 44%.  Never mind that Romney hasn’t been nominated or seriously campaigned yet.

According to columnist Charles Krauthammer, Obama is using the Buffet rule as a political ploy to gain acceptance by “pitting the 99% against the 1%.”  He is selling the idea of taking from the rich and giving to the poor.  He knows what his audience likes to hear.  “Obama does not know how to govern or is he a good president but he sure knows how to campaign” says Krauthammer.

The second method Obama uses to incite his base is that since the rich pay only a 15% capital gains tax, they are paying far less in taxes than others like the middle class.  Not so, says Charles.  He says that although the capital gains tax is 15%, it has been proven over the last half century that if you raise capital gains taxes the amount of money going into the treasury is actually less than if the tax is lower.

When asked in 2008 by Charles Gibson of ABC News if he would raise capital gains taxes even if it meant less revenue, Obama replied:  “Yes, in the name of fairness.”  Krauthammer says that Obama can’t run on his record and doesn’t have a vision for his second term, so why not run on fairness?”   Why not, indeed?  He isn’t going to balance the budget anyway.

According to Steve Hayes of The Weekly Standard, the Buffet rule would raise about the same amount of money in one year as the federal government accumulates in debt in a single day.  So, what is the big deal about the rich and the 15% capital gains?  The lower the taxes they pay, the more they can put back into their businesses to create jobs and more customers.   However, Obama tells his crowd that lower taxes on the rich mean the poor are being screwed.  Hence, his incorrect “fairness” spiel.

It doesn’t wash and even liberal writers like Dana Milbank of the Washington Post call the Buffett rule a “gimmick.”

As far as the rich not paying their fair share, here are some numbers from the Americans For Tax Reform:  PERCENT OF ALL TAX REVENUE:  Top 1%, $344,000+ income:  income tax, 39.5%, All Federal taxes, 28.1%.  Middle Quintile, $65,000 income:  income tax, 4.6%, All Federal taxes, 9.2%.

AVERAGE TAX RATES:  Top 1%:  19% of income taxes and 29.5% of all Federal taxes.  Middle quintile:  3.3% of income taxes, 14.3% of all Federal taxes.

The Democrats like to reference John Kennedy as one of their great presidents.  John Kennedy lowered the capital gains tax.  I guess he had a different definition of “fairness” that didn’t include redistribution of income and class warfare.

Nobody can argue that having 1% of taxpayers, paying nearly 39% of the cost to run the nation, amounts to the rich not paying 'THEIR FAIR SHARE". The only rational conclusion is the rich are indeed paying their fair share, and then some.

But the little guy doesn't allow himself to engage in rational thought based on who's actually paying what to run the country....He just can't stand that the rich have more than they do, and they stand and cheer any politician who promises to punish the rich,(not for not paying their share, but for being rich).

Having said that, I think the Republicans should give on the Buffet rule, it will raise about enough tax revenue in a year to cover the Owe-Bama spending spree for about 2 days, but it will take this ridiculous issue away from the Democrats, who are using it on their less than intelligent base....

Jim McAllister said...

You're right about the effect the Buffet rule would have but I would rather see it exposed for what it is than have the Republicans even give an inch.

Obama has 90% of the Black and Hispanic vote anyway so Romney could personally deliver $1,000 checks door to do for all of them and they would still vote for Obama. It's more effective to expose this gimmick to Independents and others on the fence to show what a campaign ploy it really is.

He tries to give the impression that he wants more money paid in taxes by the rich even though in 2008 when Gibson told him raising capital gains would LOWER revenue, he persisted that he wanted more CG taxes because of "fairness".

It doesn't make sense unless, of course, you are appealing to those who don't know that since they despise the rich regardless and know nothing of economics. "Fairness" is a joke but it sells in some places.

There are a few things that I don't get about all these arguments. Here's one them: if by definition, *capital gains is the difference between what you paid for an investment and what received when you sold that investment. Investments include mutual funds, bonds, stocks, options, precious metals, real estate, and collectibles. If you sold an investment for more than what you paid for it, then you have a gain. If you sold an investment for less than what you paid for it, then you have a capital loss,* then where is all that "hard work" everybody keeps talking about?

Judging by my neighborhood -- whether you are talking about the chronically depressed home values or people like the really old guy down the street who lost nearly all of his investments in the crash & now hasn't the means to ever get them back or even to go back to work -- capital gains income involves a whole lot of luck.

This is not about being rich or poor now either. I know a whole lot of people who legitimately need & deserve the income from their investments & I do not begrudge them a dime of it if they are lucky enough to still have it.

Really, the thing that rubs me wrong in these arguments is the underlying assumption that capital gains income is necessarily the result of *hard work* & people that have so much of it that only a small fraction of it goes to their actual existence should pay exactly the same rates as people who are making only subsistence wages nowadays ... often times for work that they are currently doing. People that still pay income tax too. That's another whole can of worms right there. When you separate capital gains income from other income & tax it at a lesser rate or not at all, then people that still work really get screwed.

Another thing that rubs me wrong is the idea that people on the top of enormous pyramid scheme we call an economy -- those who made piles & piles of money from milking the system when times were still good -- owe nothing to others who have not been so lucky when the system begins collapsing. I do not hate the lucky ones though. I just sincerely wish that they would man-up & pay their fair share.

WOW!...People who think like CJ here are prime examples of how easy and effective class warfare really is. And thinking is obviously not what she's doing, more like blind jealousy and envy.

CJ has this ridiculous belief that everyone who made money over the past years did so through underhanded or illegitimate ways...she calls people working hard and succeeding, ,MILKING. She fails to realize that capital gains amounts to DOUBLE taxation. First time is when people work and pay income taxes on the money they earn, then a second time when people invest that money (they already paid income tax on), and the investment pays off.

Governments set capital gains rates lower so capital, something desperately needed to promote growth, stays in the economy, taking more out of the economy and handing it to bureaucrats to handle never works, just look at the way government took billions to bail out banks who will not lend it out.

Calling for people who made piles of money to pay their fare share? completely ignores the reality of our progressive tax system, or the governments own accounting which shows those people (top 1%) are already paying the lions share of running the country.

No hope when the have-nots in the country can demand a "right" to what others worked hard to earn. To justify this selfish, misguided thinking they lie to themselves by describing everyone who as someone who only got successful by being a cheat or a crook. Pretty much the same attitude a common burglar uses when he's breaking into someone's house and stealing their stuff..."I deserve this,... the rich guy doesn't, besides, he can afford to lose it"....

God help this nation survive this pathetic, entitlement generation !

CJ,

Rather than type all this out, I ask that you check this link from the IRS about capital gains:

http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=106799,00.html

ALSO: http://borgidacpas.com/2010/10/the-difference-between-capital-gains-and-ordinary-income/

When I say "hard work" by those who have become wealthy, that is what it is in many cases.

Not everyone who works hard is wealthy. A certain amount of "savvy" is involved and capital investments do not always pay off (as I have found out the hard way in the 80s) so those who put in the time and effort and are successful are definitely working hard which also includes working smart.

You are correct when you say capital gains earnings involve a lot of luck.

Your quote: Really, the thing that rubs me wrong in these arguments is the underlying assumption that capital gains income is necessarily the result of *hard work* & people that have so much of it that only a small fraction of it goes to their actual existence should pay exactly the same rates as people who are making only subsistence wages nowadays ...

You are sounding as bit like Obama there. Remember, a lot of capital gains investments require a lot more risk that going to a rote job that offers a steady paycheck.

As far as whether the tax system on capital gains is logical or not, the IRS could explain it better than I can. However, when I see that many businesses re-invest in their companies with the CG profits thus creating more tax revenue and expansion, and that raising the CG rate would lessen government revenue, I wonder why Obama would want to raise that rate other than he is appealing to a segment of the population that doesn't understand the logic.

I call it "logic", he calls it "fairness". His description goes over much better with his constituents.

To the lady knitting in the corner, who says..... *capital gains is the difference between what you paid for an investment and what received when you sold that investment. I say "thanks"...

Great laugh line... if you are looking for all the hard work put into that profit I suggest you look at the hard work that has already been taxed to earn that personal property invested to fund corporation's business expansion.
(you might come to the correct conclusion that without that expansion people will have no places to work but I'm sure that concept has never darkened your mind.)

Try to keep in mind this is money that has been already taxed that is invested into a market that does not guarantee a return and in fact can lose some or all of the investment.
But your line of reasoning resounds with the FreeShitArmy who only sees investors as potential targets for a ravening IRS takedown.

I am surprised that no one has offered the reason that some of these one percenters like that utterly corrupt Warren Buffet are dropping to their knees to Obama over this crap- it sounds incredulous that anyone intelligent enough to actually earn money would be so cavalier on the subject until you realize they are only buying protection from assholes like Obama who see money as the property of the gvt. and only allow personal citizens the rental of that commodity.
Warren just doesn't want to be persecuted like the Gibson guitar company is being politically persecuted..

..maybe a better question is why is Buffett fighting the IRS over taxes owed at this moment if he is so on board to giving a drunk another bottle of whisky?

Proud,

Thanks for your 12:33 comment; you covered it well.

A good example of the envy factor is the current buzz from the Dems about overhearing Romney talk about the horses he owns.

It's comical, the guy is a good businessman, makes a lot of money, so he has some luxuries. It's as though they feel he doesn't deserve to have a nice life. We hear it all the time.

Then there is Hilary Rosen mouthing off on CNN how Mrs. Romney has never worked a day in her life. I love the way she got blasted for that silly remark and even Obama distanced himself from her.

As you say, the entitlement generation is upon us. I like the quote this week from Chris Christie:

Chris Christie today warned an audience of national Republicans that the country is in danger of becoming a "paternalistic entitlement society" where people sit on the couch, "waiting for the next government check."

Okay, so how about 15 percent tax and no more deductions? Just make it all flat tax. So a person making $10,000 a year pays in $1000 and a person making $1,000,000 a year pays in $100,000. No tax returns. Don't like that, huh? How about the rich pay about 25 percent tax and gets it all back with deductions? That's the way it is now. I think what the real deal is that no one wants to pay taxes, particularly the wealthy. Well, I want fairness so that the "too big to fail" don't get preference for outsourcing jobs to a Communist country and hard working people like me can hire Americans and still make a profit.

Obama wants to be the modern day Robin Hood. Steal from the rich and give to the poor. What he really wants is to turn this country into a socialist nation where everone is equal and everything is fair.

He likes to rant that the rich don't pay their fair share but never mentions the fact that 47% of Americans don't pay any federal income tax.

Socialism has never worked and never will. Just look at Cuba or North Korea for examples.

As the great Winston Churchill said, "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, a creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. Its inherent virture is the equal sharing of misery."

CJ seems to think that people that work hard and invest are somehow lucky and that's just not fair.

Don Williams said...

Sent a test (above) to see if it would go thru, so here goes.

Interesting timing on this blog as our own Arizona Republic yesterday ran a poll on the same subject.

Question:

Do you agree with President Obama's plan to raise taxes on the rich?

Yes -- 53%
No -- 45%

I found this surprising as Arizonan's are the most politically conservative in the country!

The Bush tax cut's from 2003 that cut across all income tax brackets are set to expire at the end of this year.

Forget only the rich, I support letting the Bush cut's expire so we all go back to the rates prior to 2003. A front page article from the Wall Street Journal of about 2 years ago stated the Bush cut's added some $1.7 Trillion to the Federal debt, so by now probably upwards of $3 Trillion!

Despite the Bush cut's our economy still went into the deepest recession since the great depression of the 30's which tells us tax cut's alone don't always result in a growth economy.

President's Reagan and Clinton both raised taxes and the economy with the exception of a couple quarters during Reagan's term grew during their two Adminstrations!

With our present Federal Debt of $15 Trillion and growing there is simply no way to start reducing it without letting the Bush cut's expire, and even then spending cut's have to be significant as well.........

Anonymous said...

I wonder if Don Williams has considered the course of action any one should take when they find they are over spending far more than they have coming in....STOP OVER SPENDING...

The government is addicted to over spending money they don't have. Raising taxes on the 400 or so people the Buffet rule would do....or allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire.. will not result in reducing the deficit one penny, because every new penny you hand these spending addicts...THEY WILL SPEND 10 MORE THEY DON'T HAVE.

Giving politicians more money is like handing a junkie more junk....Stupid!

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

Then there is Margaret Thatcher:

"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money."

AHG,

It's because he pays taxes on capital gains which are taxed at 15% (in his case about 14%). So, since it has been noted for the last 50 years that raising cap gains taxes actually lowers government revenue, is that what you want?

Isn't the point of the current government to raise revenue for all their programs and hopefully lower the debt? Apparently raising the CG tax isn't the answer. Especially when the debt is out of control.

You sound like you really dislike people who have money. Why? Would you tun down an opportunity to be rich?

Mike S. makes a good point about the 47% who pay no taxes. Did you see the tax tables I published? I think the rich are doing their part in the taxes. Especially when they are helping finance welfare like the rest of us. Check this out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GqryVkPiKM

Don,

Congrats! You figured it out on how to get through.

I'm surprised that poll didn't have a much higher than 53% for those thinking taxes should be higher for the rich.

53-45 is not too far from even. Surprising since most people are not rich, especially these days. Add that to the fact that many people hate the rich just because they are rich. It's an envy thing and it doesn't matter if someone got rich from being self made.

Unfortunately, with a nanny government, there will not be the self made millionaires like their used to be. It's much easier to sign up for the free stuff.

Remember that clip I sent to you a few months ago about that gal in California (Star Parker) who had the nice apartment by the beach and said she just played by the ocean all day while collecting welfare.

All she had to do was not be married, not work, not save. Hell, it's only human nature to "go for it" especially if the rich are getting soaked for the cost along with the rest of us.

Don Williams said...

Proud,

You did not see my last sentence regarding spending?

The problem today is so acute that if memory serves me correctly roughly 61% of the FY Federal budget is fixed by law, I. E. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and debt service. Beyond that the annual discretionary figures for Defense and General running of the Federal Government is where spending cuts have to take place. Politics then come into play and cut's are never deep enough to stop FY deficits due to the ongoing expenditures fixed by law. This said, even with deep cut's all that does is reduce FY deficit's and there is still not enough revenue to start paying down the debt. Hence the chickens are coming home to roost and additional revenue simply has to become a part of the discussion.

I totally agree with your statement on giving more revenue to politicians, so if taxes have to be increased the increase should include legislation that the added revenue stream not be allowed to go into the general treasury but rather by law dedicated soley to debt reduction.......

Here's an informative site... notice how the US national debt- (red numbers on the left) is increasing while the revenue on the right (in the green) is decreasing at both overall and corporate level of taxes paid.

nice to see you here don, so do you care to tell me how just raising taxes will bring in the same amount of increase in revenue?- it 's been proved again and again that there is a point of diminishing returns to merely raising the tax rate- at some point (usually around 17% of G.D.P) people will just quit working or go off radar- and the rich who will quit and go to the Bahamas represents the worst level to lose, the job creators..
Also while we are on the subject, how do you arrive at a balanced budget- pardon my laughter- without addressing the level of wasteful spending and unnecessary rate of growth- (look up baseline budgeting)
Anyone who has ever tried to or shorn a sheep knows there is a limit that you can take from each animal before you cause irreparable harm..

As I said that debt clock with a rising indebtedness linked with a diminishing tax base represents a warning... but the usual fools that listen to jerks like Buffett will have no idea the utter peril that debt clock represents.

One thing is certain, anyone who was a "professor" at the level that our dear leader has participated fully well knows the implications of this economy, and it delights him to no end because after all it's the intentional sabotage of our nation that is his goal.

but the greater point is you admitting that there is always corruption in social programs like welfare and apparently not all that concerned- what other acts of theft are you comfortable with- or is it because it's the government's money and not mine or Jim's that theft is not so offensive?

Middy,

You come across as a bitter old man, oh but wait! That's because you are a bitter old man! I watched Obama's acceptance speech in the Summer of 08 and was pleased with his stating he supports the 2nd amendment. Too bad you missed it that night.

We're all still awaiting your solution to how the Goverment can start reducing the Federal debt without additional sources of revenue.

Jim McAllister said...

Don,

Middy is right about Obama's statements. Are you saying that those quotes are incorrect?

I know you are a die hard liberal but facts are facts and Obama said all those things. You should look at the guy for what he is and was: a babe in the woods with no experience who said a lot of stuff he was incapable of doing.

As far as his supporting the second amendment, his statement about rural people wanting to "cling to their guns and religion" was a direct slap in the face to many Americans. Trhat was yet another stupid statement picked up by a mike he didn't know was on just like his stupidity at the end of the Medvedev conversation.

He tries to laugh this stuff off but America is not laughing with him.

Maybe he and his spendthrift wife need another trillion dollar vacation.

CJinPhoenix said...

That's all good, Middy, but I was thinking I should start a bit lower down the chain anyway. Would you vote for me as governor? I mean, if the old witch could do it, I am sure I could too. Besides, by the time I am actually ready to go for it, she will have taken her flying monkeys home with her so I wouldn't have to deal with them.

Steve/DG said...

CJ, it's called risk. You take a shot of investing in hoping for a return. Some pull a slot machine handle, bet on a roulette wheel, or a black jack table, and others do so with companies. If I asked you for $10K of your money to invest in my organization, wouldn't you expect a return? After all, you got that 10K somehow.

The O Train doesn't care about this -- he knows his base, quote, "don't wanna work and Obama will still pay me". He'll say he needs the Buffet rule while he takes lavish vacations and so does his wife. Hmmm.

Steve/DG said...

Jim, obviously I'm not as old as you guys and haven't paid attention to politics as long as you guys have, but I don't ever, ever, ever remember a president (of all of us, right?) try to divide people so much, along income, race, ideology, etc.

A world class douchenozzle this clown is. And his phantom blame of Bush, Arab spring, etc. for an economy he, snicker, inherited. We should have CJ define us inheritance. This ass lobbied for the job and told us he would fix it. No one forced it on him to take on.

Guess working as a president and campaigning are two different things for a Constitutional scholar who threatens the Supreme Court.

Na, Jan Brewer is exactly where I can keep an eye on her- despite your academic accomplishments that puts her to shame she has little to fear from the likes of your ambitions.

Steve, just like the military, there are effective leaders and there are politicians, and the politicians of the military are as disingenuous in the military as in civilian life- I have had experiences with both, we had a Lt.Col show up one day and walked point on a major battalion sweep we started in the DMZ in '69- that's leadership, and I have had a worthless Captain call in what can only be considered a no- win suicide mission from the comfort of the rear with the predictable casualties one being our company corpsman- all for nothing but advancing his personal career..
that sounds like Obama..
don is laughable- and I don't take his personal attacks as anything other than admission he has nothing..
But that is the tactic of the left, curiously even tho I am nearly 65 today I appear probably ten years younger than he does, but he resorts to calling me a bitter old man as though that has any relativity- (keep it classy don).

A true leader seeks to galvanize rather than to segregate, a leader puts the welfare of his charges before personal ambition, a leader motivates in a positive manner rather than resort to the fear tactics of Satan- which is Obama's default mode.
What we have in the White House is Satan- nothing short.

Google the leading Economic indicators the day Obama took office and compare them to today. Good Ol' American Capitalism is doing far better under Obama compared to when it went in the tank under Bush...

Oh did I forget to mention Obama also killed Osama Bin Laden plus got us out of Bush's horribly costly, and mistaken war in Iraq?

That said, November's Election for President will be the only one in my lifetime where frankly I'm perfectly fine with both Obama and Romney. Aside from a couple social issues I see little difference between the two, and am happy we'll have a GOP candidate who's not a right wingnut like the others who campaigned for the Oval office.

The agreement has come to light after The Daily Caller obtained a concerning email chain between state Republican leaders"

oddly this has not appeared on any US media outlet- for what reason I cannot fathom.

Doesn't this type of story just piss you off don?- after all using a position of authority to sexually assault a gay person and then when it comes to light pay him off and make him swear not to divulge this type of behavior.. it should incense anyone of your high moral standards... you can read about it here..

Sure Don, so let me give you a personal view that you'll surely blame on Brewer since you and CJ love to do so -- if it sucks in AZ, it's Jan's fault, if something good happens in AZ, it's Obama's win.

My daughter is going to NAU in the fall -- $20,000 a year. $20K a year. TWENTY THOUSAND a YEAR. For a state school Don. And your BFF in the White House hates kids so much that he's upping the Student Loan percentage rate come July 1.

That means directly due to your awesome president, my daughter will be saddled with $80K in debt with a bachelor degree in pre med from NAU. Did I mention this isn't Harvard???

Keep drinking the Kool Aid Don. And as a reminder, the DJIA isn't the indicator. My stock is up 40% from 5 years ago... FLATX, look it up. It's a Latin America stock, influenced by Chinese dollars. Wonder how Obama got me those extra bucks.

BTW, on top of Obama's accomplishments you listed, he also hates Mexicans and immigrants because deportations are up since Bush -- wait, why isn't the DNC and you illegal apologizers hopping up and down on that, or are yous still worked up on this War on Women crap?

Steve/DG said...

Midnight, the I agree on leadership. Obama is like that Italian cruise ship captain -- as soon as thing goes bad, he'll be the first on the lifeboat. Because it's Bush's fault.

I learned this weekend where the "kool aid" lexicon comes from.. it's from the idiot masses who committed mass suicide at Johannesburg and drank the sugary tasting water laced with cyanide.. I didn't know that.

But it makes perfect sense with the Obama can do know wrong, because he is Black.

I'm a hard core Conservative on the issue of Illegal Immigration so you need to know a bit more about others here before you make your abrasive accusations.

You say "Obamna can do no wrong because dhe is Black"

Another abrasive comment which has no bearing on the debate today.

maybe all koolaide except "purple" should be banned by regulation- just try to serve green or red koolaide at the lockup.. they will throw it at you before they drink it...There are a lot of similarities with Jonestown and what we are watching this mental case dredge up in Washington.
I figured you would know what drinking the koolaide was all about- but then you are pretty young and thereby inexperienced-take that!

don is as clueless as to what is driving this stock market as he is about that link I supplied about the "Republican" scandal I mentioned- I have little hope though -haha..
for the rest of you that still don't get it open the link and read the article..
I only changed one word three times..
hey don- explain to us what the term hypothecation means and then explain to us why JP Morgan moved their operation overseas to operate under British rules..
Once you look that up, look up the term rehypothecation... and maybe the housing debacle will start sinking in...

Yeah, no mention of the scandal of skyrocketing college costs that have happened for the past few decades and it's enabler, government provided student loans... all those who believe that the gov. is going to forgive those hundred thousand plus millstones around the necks of our youth can forget it, the new IRS auditors that were hired included in the health care scam are going to need something to do once the Supreme Court gives jug ears his well deserved bad news... and if that doesn't work they have their own swat team to enforce collections...
yeah that is no bullshit.

But I will bet you one thing... the only color of koolaide served at the White House is purple- no seconds until everyone has had some.

hey don... on the jobs thing.. it's already being done, take a look at North Dakota- there is a boom going on right now that rivals the California gold rush, jobs are begging to be filled to the point that housing is at a premium.

But that is exactly what Obama has blocked for political reasons- explain the Keystone pipeline debacle to me and convince me that Obama has the best interests of America at heart..

Don Williams said...

Middy,

You're late to the party as the booming jobs picture in North Dakota goes back a good 3 years ago and of course is only one of 50states. Tell us about the other 49. Oh never mind it's too late as the jobs picture is slowly recovering nationwide. Look for unemployment to be around 7.8% by July.

From what I've read I'd wager the Keystone pipeline will be approved in time as it's simply been delayed while different routes are studied. Not a debacle at all simply a questionable route in the original proposal.

midnightsstaff said...

Of course you miss the whole point, we should be energy independent in fifteen years if we can ever get the politics out of the conversation.

North Dakota oil that is being produced and creating jobs going begging is because the work is on private property and not government (controlled by Obama) property.
.. do I really have to spell it out for you?
There is no shortage of oil.
Oil is not responsible for the ruination of the environment.
Obama is playing politics with the pipeline.
The Canadians are no longer willing to give us a discount for light sweet crude.
If we ever get that oil it will now be priced at spot prices instead of somewhere in the seventies as they were willing to sell it for- something the American public and the Republican candidate can hang like a dead chicken around that marxist neck.

It's simple don.. The bigger the government gets the smaller the private sector becomes and because government produces no taxes it removes that portion from the potential tax base a healthy GNP can provide in a capitalist system..

One would have to be either hopelessly foolish or insane to believe that despite our now having the fewest percentage of potential workers employed in our nation's post war history and a diminishing tax revenue stream to prove it that somehow a contrived unemployment figure is proof the economy is getting better.
There is nothing I can say to a fence post like you.
My advice tho is there is a bubble that is going to pop in the market.
..it has been delayed but as with blowing up a balloon altho you can't tell exactly when it will burst, you can safely say it will at one point do exactly that.
anyone caught long will be in shallow water.

I don't need to know anymore about you and Jim can decide how abrasive I can/cannot be -- your post of getting a "tingle down your leg during Obama's acceptance speech" sums up pretty much all I need to understand about you.

Don:

Your comment: .... the jobs picture is slowly recovering nationwide. Look for unemployment to be around 7.8% by July.

From Janet Yellen of the Fed:

Most Pessimistic Estimate.....
U.S. employers added 120,000 jobs in March, less than the most pessimistic estimate in a Bloomberg News survey of economists. Joblessness fell to 8.2 percent from 8.3 percent as people stopped looking for work, bolstering Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke’s view that the declining unemployment rate overstates gains in the labor market.

“Over the next several years, I anticipate that we will fall far short in achieving our maximum employment objective,” Yellen said.

Do you still want to stick to that 7.8 number? Of course, unemployment numbers are pretty much bullshit anyway as those who quick looking for work are not counted as unemployed.

You and I have been friends for a while and I think on most subjects you are pretty level header. However, when it comes to Obama you seem really brainwashed. I do see a glimmer of sunshine though as I notice you say that you wouldn't mind seeing a Romney administration this time. It's a beginning so keep working on that.

Steve,

"Douchenozzle? LOL Just when i thought I heard them all, you come up with that one!

The Keystone Pipeline from a foreign country and passing through the United States is just curious. The Republicans are NOT telling the truth. It's NOT going to bring gas prices down and they can't deny it. Robert McFarlane was just in our sleepy little town saying that fuel consumption is going up overseas in the once undeveloped countries now developing thanks to American jobs outsourced to them, hence the Keystone Pipeline to the Gulf of Mexico for shipping overseas. McFarlane, once advisor for Reagan, said that gas prices are going to continue going up through the years to come. The reason for the pipeline is simple. The Iran Daily News reports that China is building 12 supertankers and will start being delivered to Iran at the end of 2012 for distribution of oil. Despite the trade sanctions, 15 European states are attending Tehran's 17th International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition. I wonder how many Republicans are sending representatives to the convention in Iran? As time passes, it really does appear that everything that is going on is a prelude to global war with Iran, China and Russia siding against NATO. Sources say that Iran has missiles and drones in Venezuela and they are aiming for an attack on the Southwestern United States.

Wow... sounds like a J prep school essay you have just written.. a tip tho, although it has great impact to offer enough specificity to alarm the intended readers the trick is to keep the thread moving with another salacious statement before the target has time to reflect on yet subconsciously absorbs enough impact of the statement to indelibly affect their concepts of the subject.
Bill Clinton was a master on the subject.
PS.....no links is a give away.

So you need a little work but I hand it to you, what you lack in finesse you compensate with impact...

After all there is nothing like scaring the muppets in Arizona on an otherwise perfect Sunday morning with the thoughts of a scud missile crashing down and scattering the illegals who are cleaning our yards.

Rick,

The hell with that minor stuff about Iran attacking the US; tell us the more important stuff like about Barbara Eden. What a true member of "babedom" she was and probably still is for a babe now in her 70s.

I remember when "I Dream of Jeannie" came on in the 60s, they showed her belly button. That didn't last long as the outrage was tremendous from the public that something so pornographic could come into America's living rooms. They quickly raised her pants up a notch and all was well.

Whew! That was a close one. Compare that to what we see now, huh?

Blue,

I remember the brouhaha well about Jeannie's belly button. It all seems so tame now but it was the late 60s when "I Dream of Jeannie" ran and there were still enough people who cared about such things that they had to cover up her navel.

A lot different today. Here is an interview with Eden talking about it. Apparently "Laugh-In" had something to do with it. Now, THERE was a ground breaking show!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJM0OIlIFAU (2:21)

Jim McAllister said...

Blue,

That "prostitutegate" thing is crazy. What were those guys thinking? I heard the money amount was $47 for those whores. It seems like those dumb ass secret service guys could have chipped in and paid her off. LOL

No, I'm not going to get into it with a blog. It is just a minor distraction that will go away quickly enough and be nothing more than an embarrassment.

It really makes me wonder about the common sense of some people but common sense cannot be learned; you either have it or you don't.

Jim, Look up images of Goldie Hawn on "Laugh In". She used to wear a bikini -- remember that? -- but something I never realized was that it appears they covered her naval with paint. LOL.

Barbara Eden does look pretty good. But it also looks like she has had a lot of plastic surgery. Look at her nose -- looks a little like one of the Jackson's (Michael, Latoya, Janet ...) Plus her eyebrows barely move the whole time she is talking.

ms, I am beginning to like your first wife. ;]

Jim McAllister said...

CJ,

I don't know when she did that 2 minute interview but I agree, she looks good but also a bit caulked up. I'm sure there is some Botox injected into her face too. Ah, the miracles of science.

IMDB shows her being born on August 23, 1934 in Tucson which means she will be 78 in a couple of months. Wow! Time sure flies!

Those 60s shows seem so simplistic now. I've seen some reruns of Gunsmoke and the stories are so simple.

That was a line of reasoning no knuckle dragging missing link male could ever dream up Cj.
I will admit I have met my better, my hat's off. That was simply magnificent.

Yeah... them times have sure changed Jimmy- I guess part of the reason it seems so drastic is because we can remember another era.
Those wet behind the ear types like Steve and that crowd caught the wave near the end, this new reality probably seems like a little shift to the left, but we lived to watch the election of Kennedy and grew up in a completely different world..
I think I liked it much better in the days before we lost our minds.

CJinPhoenix said...

Aw, c'mon, Middy. Just calling it the way I see it there. And I said she looks good, didn't I? She's 78. It is not like I am making something up & facts are fact no matter how you want to spin it.

midnightsstaff said...

What spin?- when I notice an egret in my swimming pool and mention it that is not spin, it's an accurate, although not a complete one of the state of my politically correct green tinted three ringer.
Hollywood is a tough road for most starlets and wanna be starlets, a little tug here and a snip there is considered normal maintenance pretty much on line with your running three miles each morning before breakfast.
Becoming famous or attaining celebrity status would be the worst thing possible to happen to me, ( but realistically I am more inclined to attain celebrity status like Gerorge Zimmerman has) I tend to like my anonymity- but lots of people don't share my view, they seek that status and will do damn near anything it takes to maintain it.
Believe me everyone gets their troubles, Barbara Eden doesn't get a pass on life. I am sure she has issues we can't imagine if she is typical of most Hollywood types, pointing out her vanity is easy but does it really matter in the long run?
You might keep in mind it comes off as petty and jealous to someone who doesn't know you as well as I do.

Jim McAllister said...

Joe,

That speech was on June 4, 1940 by Churchill and he was ensuring the British people of the importance and the resolve of GB to fight off the invasion of the Germans under any circumstances; even with France possibly dropping out of the war.

Here is an excerpt: (From Wiki)

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.

BTW, "official sources" of Iran is Iran itself. The horses' mouth. They brag about the money they spend. And it is curious about the Secret Service agents getting in trouble for hookers. It's been going on for decades, so why now? So what if they had hookers? Forty-seven bucks ain't bad for a hot fricking chick and I'll bet he haggled with her mother. I've seen it before. Wish me luck. I just sent a note to Rolling Stone magazine concerning Dell Mack. Okay, listen. It's 1951, Dell Mack drives his car at 14-years-old from Crocker Missouri to Bluff City Tennessee, now known as Memphis to get recorded. I think it may have been 1952, since that's the year that the Phillips brothers started Sun Records. The people that Delbert McKinnon learned music from are legends today. Dell said that his father told him before embarking on his adventure, "Play in tune and play in time," in an era without electronic tuners and the 440 tuning fork. Musicians would be 'homeless' under the bridges and that's where Dell Mack began his career and he learned from the black artists. Elvis learned from the black artists as did Dell, but most likely Presley had to use a fake name or be caught by his parents under the bridges. His mother was apparently very protective of the boy, who pestered Judd, brother of Sam Phillips, to get recorded. Dell Mack said the strangest thing he ever saw was Jerry Lee Lewis signing his name all over the walls in tiny little signatures between the holes. I'm not so interested in getting famous from these legends, but music journalism gives me peace.

We better get behind and push as much as possible to make sure he surrounds himself with better advice than what GWB got.

Middy,

I noticed those numbers earlier on Drudge and had to laugh because right away the libs are saying the poll is slanted, bad demographics, etc.

Axelrod is saying Gallup uses bad information so that is why Romney is leading. That funny since the last Gallup poll showed Obama was ahead a few points. We didn't hear from him then! LOL What a weasel.

Let's hope the lead keeps growing and Obama gets dumped in November. I wonder if he will plan all his lavish vacations for him and his wife if he loses.

Here is a funny one. The secret service is looking into the remarks made by Ted Nugent about Obama and the Supreme Court. LOL

The secret service has enough to worry about with their whores without being concerned with Ted Nugent's opinions.

Speaking of sniping, why don't you go off on Jim while he keeps saying approximately the same thing as I did, Middy? Whatever. You're the sniper right now & that's all there is to it. Must be that time of the month or, in your case, that time of the day (every day). And, no, I would never confuse you with ms & his second wife. I believe that you are smarter than the both of them combined.

Mr. McAllister's Neighborhood where the world is a little strange sometimes. Jim, be nice when writing about Barbara Eden. I wrote about you on her page and Team Eden and I have talked. They're very nice people and I told them that Jim McAllister from Scottsdale and friends are always asking about her.

Jim, I am a little concerned about this Secret Service thing, because what if it's a trick to replace the old guard? The Secret Service agents assigned to the White House are the best of the best of the best. Those are good people. And the White House Secret Service has always been nice to me, regardless of the political party. People have no idea how much stress those agents are under. Those are the same agents that guard Republicans and Democrats. Those guys are really nice in person. They're very down to earth good people in the Secret Service and what if the story is bogus? What if Columbia just wanted to embarrass the United States and set them up? What if someone wants rid of the toughest agents and replace them with those loyal to another? They're hard working, dedicated soldiers of the finest sort, Jim. But they ain't angels by a far sight. These are the people who might have to kill someone, then go home and look their kids in the eyes. People have no idea the stress those guys are under. But I'm biased. They've always been good to me because of Reagan, the Bush family and the Clintons. I love this country and I know it can always be fixed, no matter what.

Rick,

I love Barbara Eden. She has been a busy gal since 1956 appearing in 89 titles according to IMDB. "Jeannie" is probably what put her on the map. Not bad for little Barbara Jean Moorhead of Tucson, AZ.

That secret service thing is confusing. I have always pictured those guys as so strait laced and serious. It also seems odd that they would allow this ruckus to be caused over a lousy $47. There is probably a lot we haven't been told.

CJinPhoenix said...

Haha. The object of Middy's dreams just shot down a bill that would have allowed guns in public places. You should have whispered something in old Jan's ear before Mary Rose got to her, Middy.

Jim, heavy partying and dangerous, stressful work seem to go hand in hand. Ever hear of Libby Stubbs? She's a music artist from Melbourne Australia that I'm helping out now. She's got that Rickie Lee Jones style. Barbara Moorhead? I can see the change to Eden and it's actually brilliant. Did you know that if you put a fruit or vegetable in a name, that it makes the Product more appealing? Eden, like in garden. Someone was way ahead of their time in creating that name.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

I remember Rickie Lee Jones; haven't heard her in quite a long time. I remember she used a cigar on one song as a prop.

Libby Stubbs I don't know.

Eden sure beats Moorhead on the marquee. Most Hollywood players have stage names because their real names wouldn't work. Good example: Cary Grant was originally Archie Leach.

Well hell, I thought eighty should have been about the right place to call it a day but here you go Jim pushing a hundred... just like George Burns..
hope you listened to that podcast on the Titanic, it was great.

Even Cj swinging at the ol black cat pinata with her two fisted kill shots can't bring me down, the Coyotes showed some real grit tonight with a win in a real tough playoff building not to get blown out in.
2-1 and only by luck it isn't 3-0 this team is magic it looks like....
Yeah the silly season is almost over, time to get out the sharp knives and start whittling on each other..
So far the failure has not been able to make any one of these salacious charges stick enough to give him any momentum..
Six and a half months is long enough for anything to blow up in the junior varsity's face though- give those idiots two anvils and lock them in a rubber room and they would lose one and break the other..
Jackass John McAmnesty was running his mouff over some idiotic thing or the other... I tell you Jimmy this state has some of the sorriest politicians and wanna be politicians I have ever witnessed.. judges are as corrupt in Arizona as any borough in Chicago.
(well maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration for effect..)

Middy,

It definitely should be 3-0 but that win last night was huge. Now they come home 2-2 at worst and hopefully 3-1.

The Titanic broadcast was a good one. It reminded me of the old "You Are There" TV show from the 50s with Walter Cronkite where they dramatized past events in history.

Here is something a guy sent to me today. Willie Nelson in 1965. You'll be surprised.

Jim, Barbara Eden is a very sweet and genuinely nice person. I think that Barbara reaches out to her fans sometimes to help them. Now, about Libby Stubbs; I guess she used to play in a popular band years ago and now she's solo, but no rock star is going to make her popular. I've discovered that famous celebrities make it partly because of the corporations, but mostly because they draw an audience. Libby is on on Youtube and she plays for free in the markets and she's gaining followers in Australia. Jon Seppanen is another artist who is quickly climbing the ladder and he needs almost NO Help at all! Jon is a military veteran and has been in numerous battles! He's another guy who believes that music is healing. I've got to go to Dell Mack's studio today and drop off an amp for an electric guitar that I gave to a woman so she and her son don't have to share the acoustic. The boy plays a chord, then his mother has to play the same chord in a game of their own invention. It brings back that togetherness that is missing in an impoverished family. They may never be rock stars, but it gives them hope and helps organize their thinking to make a better world. People give me the strangest looks in the store now, since I'm "that writer." It's like I let out the jeannie in the bottle.

Yeah... I suppose it's why I like the theater of the mind approach, the phenomenon probably goes a long way to explain why baseball is no longer the numero uno sport- we have a society that demands visuals and the tv is just full of visuals that drown out the competition.
Radio catered to a different approach to baseball, you can listen to a game while you do something else.
Being a then Red Sox fan in LA I used to be able to catch an occasional radio game or listen to Vin Sculley work his magic, radio football or hockey doesn't have the magic on a lazy summer day as baseball and Vin Sculley.
Nothing says Willie better than "Blue eyes cryin in the rain"- here ya go...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8b8I2_Ik3E
That clip with Willie is classic, it was the stage he was just trying to get noticed, he was nervous but obviously had the tools, later on in his career he began stylizing to the now familiar Willie chord transitions and vocal inflections recognized we now recognize as his signature-
He is a national treasure.
If the state troopers would just quit pulling his tour bus over and tossing it that would help... after all there isn't a judge in Texas that will convict him over a minor violation of the failed war on drugs.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

My definition of fame has always been the same: "You know your famous when people know you but you don't know them." It sounds like you are starting to receive a bit of that as "the writer". Don't put a down payment on that tour bus yet though.

Middy,

I did a blog a few years ago about how much better baseball is on radio than on TV. We have a good example right here in Phoenix as the TV guys (Grace, Sutton) are a couple of doofuses who do about everything BUT give an intelligent broadcast of a game. They are just screw offs. Greg Schulte and Tom Candiotti do a good job on radio. I have tried watching TV with the sound off and listening to them but they have that damn 7 second delay so the picture and sound are not coordinated.

As a kid in 1950s Cincy, I could walk down about any street in town in the summer when the Reds were playing a day game and hear it coming from houses and yards. Everyone followed the Reds and announcer Waite Hoyt.

When I was stationed in central Missouri in the 60s I could still pick up the Reds at night as they broadcast over WLW, a 50,000 watter. I also listened to many Cardinal games with Harry Caray and Joe Garagiola. Harry was the greatest. He also did U of Missouri basketball.

My friend Allen sent me that Willie Nelson clip. Very interesting bit from 1965. He sure changed his act and became quite an icon.

CJ,

100 comments, pretty good considering I don't have the coverage of the Republic blogs. Those were supposed to disappear on 2-22 but they are still there. No one posts though.

You guys are really loyal and I appreciate it.
