KAY KYSER'S "KOLLEGE OF MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE"

It’s time for a music quiz.  Are you salivating, Glo?

Here it goes:

1.  In a 1973 hit by Deep Purple, they are singing about “smoke” and “water”.  What song?  What smoke?  What water?  What famous group of the time is mentioned in the song?

2.  Who won the 1971 World Series and what was their theme song?  Who performed it?

3.  Who sang “Diamond Girl”?  Name the year within three years.  (Extra credit if you hit it exactly)

Janice Joplin (1943-1970).  She was
quite a "swill" singer!
4.  What band did Rick Derringer start with at age 17?  What was their huge hit of 1965 and who did they knock out of #1 on the Hit Parade with it?

5.  Who sang “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” and in what movie was it featured?  It became Billboard’s number 1 hit of what year?

6.  Name the 1975 disco hit by The Silver Convention.

7.  Name Janice Joplin’s favorite booze.

8.  Who was Carly Simon singing about in her 1973 hit “You’re So Vain”?

9.  What brand of car is mentioned in a 1981 hit by Blondie that has been considered by many to be the first successful rap song?   Who is the lead singer?

10.  Name three hits from the J. Geils Band.

Extra credit question:  Who the hell was Kay Kyser?”

This is NOT an open book test.   Anyone caught cheating will have to wash the blackboards after class and beat the chalk dust out of the erasers.

Good luck!  I’ll give you a reasonable amount of time to complete the quiz.  While you’re working on it, I’ll be hanging around the teacher’s lounge trying to find out more about the good looking babe who is the new English teacher!

.."Smoke on the Water"- Religious music... ah, now we are talking about something I am an authority on.

It was Toronto where they lost the whole concert they were playing at to a distillery fire next door to the misnamed Southern Comfort distillery of Nova Scota.

..early reports was the fire had destroyed the structure and they had lost all their stock.
.. next day Joplin ended it all in despair.

The first rap song is an easy one.. "they are coming to take me a way-haha"

..bonus points in knowing that on the flip side was Richard Nixon's farewell speech played backwards..

Raindrops falling on my head was adopted as the Bolivian national anthem in 1976.
Carlie Simon was singing about her second cousin Neil Simon husband of Paul Simon.
you can look it up!

For the rest I would have to take a wild guess.

1. Don't have a clue
2.P Pirates, w are family
3.Seals & Croft, late 80's?
4. Don't have a clue
5.B J Thomas
6.Don't have a clue
7. Bourbon
8.James Taylor
9.Debbie Harry / The Rapture, not sure about the car?
10.Freeze Frame and 2 more equally stupid songs?

(Sheesh...had to open two windows to display comments and answers at same time)

midnightsstaff said...

Well, I did cheat on the Carlie Simon thing.

and that good looking babe of an English teacher...

.. five years ago when she lived in San Francisco her name was Frank Addidictame.
her heart wasn't the only thing she left there.

Hmmmmmm.....Maybe this SHOULD have been an open book test!

Glo, where are you? Save these guys.

midnightsstaff said...

She's probably the only one with a job.

Ok, I was making it up about the Southern Comfort distillery, it was later at the Early Age distillery in Kentucky but the rest was-
(is it too late to take the fifth? maybe a fifth of George Dickel)
..to the best of my recollection your honor.

I swerree on a stack of Korans.

PROUD said...

Glo???
What? you saying my answers weren't that good????

Shocked I tell you....SHOCKED!

Besides, I have an excuse....yesterday was our 36th wedding aniversary, so my memories have naturally been focused in that direction, not to mention I may have killed a few brain cells (the ones relating to musical trivia) celebrating last night...

Glo, Solid Gold Oldies fan said...

Ok, Ok - simmer down guys. Take a deep breath. Chant” ohhhhhmmmmmmmmmm

Shockingly, I don't have all the answers! Some bands I really didn't listen to, like Deep Purple, whose only hit I remember was Hush (great howling at the start!).

Carly was supposedly singing about Warren Beatty, but it's a well-kept secret. However, she sold the info to Dick Ebersole (married to Susan St. James of MacMillan & Wife) for a charitable donation. Did you know Mick Jagger was singing in the background?

Diamond Girl was by Seals & Crofts. I liked their Summer Breeze song better.

1971 World Series? Are you kidding me? I don’t watch sports at all.

Raindrops: BJ Thomas of course! Played in Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid while Paul Newman was riding Katharine Ross around on his bike. The movie was from 1969, but I think the song won awards the following year, including the Academy Award for Best Song.

Rick Derringer? The McCoys – hey, Hang On, Sloopy, hang on!

Don’t know the other answers, but did you know that the leader of the J. Geils band was named Peter Wolf and he was married to Faye Dunaway? I believe they had a son named Liam.

And Middy: “They’re coming to take me away hahhaaaaaaaaaaaaa” was released in 1966 by Napoleon XIV. Who’da thunk you could have a hit about a man and his dog?

OK, so here are a few more questions:

What hit song was remade by BJ Thomas that was originally done my an iconic old country star who died too young (And – who played said star in the movies?)?

What kind of a cocktail drink was made famous in the 40s by the Andrews Sisters?

Which song did Neil Diamond release in both 1966 and 1971, but only became a hit in that latter year?

Name two songs that Ringo Starr sang lead on during his tenure with the Beatles?

And what odd song in the 1970s was about cannibalism?

Ready, set – GO!

PS Proud - Congrats on the anniversary! tell your wife that we all admire her fortitude.

Thirty six.. congratulations, I barely made 16 before the mast- you are a better man than me.

I keep thinking it was Neal Young on #3 but then my memory is suspect.

..do I win a prize?

BTW Proud, you can click on the left where it says in blue, "Show Original Post".. I never bother because I never pay attention to the subject anyway,
..right now I have answered the most correctly and am leading the small pack- but then Proud will eventually get over the anniversary hangover.

Maybe I should have asked the girls at the hair salon and aced this sucker..
I gotta feeling they might know most of the answers, especially that hard bitten, no nonsense broad with the gimp that cuts my hair.

Most of the hair cutters today look like they have closed down more bars than the eighteenth amendment- specially that one with the tattoos and Peg Bundy hairdo that works in the corner.

Al could have answered every one of these questions and stumped you in the bargain.

PROUD said...

Glo...Yeah, she's getting a lot of congrats on the fortitude :-) (even from me!)

Only new question I know is about the Beatles, Ringo sang lead on Yellow Sub...Act Naturally..Honey Don't, and Little Help From My Friends...Prolly some others I will remember later?(I have every song the Beatles ever released)

PROUD said...

Oh...I thought the "Original Post", had a more biblical meaning (Original Sin-ish), so I steered clear of that...

Jim, I have the answer for #1
Smoke on the Water is the title. It was a Casino fire, by Lake Geneva, Switzerland.
Two famous groups are mentioned, Frank Zappa and the Mothers, also the Rolling Stones are mentioned later in the song.

I think all of the others are already answered .

Stevebuzzardo said...

"What hit song was remade by BJ Thomas that was originally done my an iconic old country star who died too young (And – who played said star in the movies?)?"

Glo, I have the answer:

It was the old Hank Williams song "I'm so Lonesome I could cry"

Glo said...

Steve: Good job! BJ did a great renditions of that song. Now - who played Hank Williams in the 1964 movie? :)

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

Something tells me you aren't taking this very seriously! LOL

"They're coming to take me away ha-ha" ???? You forgot "to the funny farm"

Anyway, that's incorrect but I assume with the Janice comment you are saying her drink of choice was "Southern Comfort." That's correct!

Jim McAllister said...

Proud,

You got number 2. It was the Pittsburgh Pirates and the song was "We are family".

#3 is also correct with Seals and Croft. it wasn't in the 80s though.

B. J. Thomas is correct for number 5.

Debbie Harry is correct for #8. I'll give you credit for "The Rapture" even though the song is actually "Rapture". Close enough.

"Freeze Frame" is correct for part of #10.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

Are you back on the Weinhard?

BTW it's "Carly" not "Carlie".

Jim McAllister said...

Proud,

"Centerfold" is correct, one to go!

It's "Geils" not "Gyles" but I feel charitable today.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

Never say "hump" in front of a horny man!

Jim McAllister said...

Glo,

I'm not surprised you did the best on this. I might hire you to teasch a class on pop music for these guys!

OK, not into Deep Purple, huh?

"Hush" was a great song but not what I'm looking for.

Correct on Warren Beatty but it can vary depending on who one talks to. Warren says its definitely him.

Correct on Seals and Crofts.

Correct on Thoimas, Butch Cassidy, and 1970.

Correct on Derringer with The McCoys and "Hang on Sloopy".

Jim McAllister said...

Glo,

Was it George Hamilton? I seem to remember him playing Hank Williams because it seemed so impossible that he could pull it off.

Jim McAllister said...

Buzz,

Excellent! It was Lake Geneva and the Montreux Casino fire and the other group was Zappa.

Was Richie Blackmore lead guitar for DP? I loved his "Man on the Silver Mountain."

They were a great group.

BTW, the IRS is already asking me...what does second place pay?

Jim McAllister said...

Here is the complete list of answers:

1. The smoke is from the Montreux Casino Fire. The water is from lake Geneva in Switzerland.

The other group was Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention.

The song was "Smoke on the Water".

2. The Pittsburgh Pirates won the 1971 World Series and their theme was "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge.

3. Seals and Crofts, 1973.

4. Rick Derringer's band was indeed The McCoys, their song was "Hang on Sloopy", and they knocked The Beatles out of number one.

5. Glo nailed it: B. J. Thomas with "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" from "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and it was number one for 1970.

6. The Silver Convention did "Fly Robin Fly."

7. Middy got number 7 "Southern Comfort."

8. Carly Simon was probably referring to Beatty but some think it could have been David Cassidy, Cat Stevens, Nick Nolte, or David Bowie. (Cat Stevens!?)

9. Debbie Harry sang "Rapture" for Blondie in 1981 and during the rap segment of the song she mentions a Subaru. Debbie was quite a dish in those days but is now 68 and looking it. Time flies!

10. Three hits by J. Geils were "Freeze Frame, "Centerfold", and "Give it to Me."

The answer to the extra credit question of "Who the hell was Kay Kyser?" is the following.

James Kern "Kay" Kyser was a popular bandleader and radio personality of the 1930s and 1940s.

He made some comedy musicals in the 1040's and one of his crew was Ish Kabibble. "Three Little Fishes" was one of their hits.

He played campy stuff of the 40s but is an interesting curio now. He called his group the "Kollege of Musical Knowledge."

BTW...I have to toss a yellow flag on Middy's team for answer on #7. Question was Joplin's favorite booze...not what "brand"...I think bourbon was correct...judges??? Glo???

PROUD said...

Off topic, but damn good:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=HlYZ2s_95gs#!

Jim McAllister said...

Proud,

If it was bourbon, a brand name would have sufficed since bourbon and its various brand names are pretty ubiquitous. For example, Jack Daniels, which is a well known bourbon as is Early Times.

Southern Comfort is so unique that I think the generic would probably still be Southern Comfort. It's actually an "American Liqueur" but I had to look it it up to know that.

After much time pondering this situation I have decided that Middy still gets credit for "Southern Comfort" even though some of his comments are similar to those of a person who could have recently consumed a bottle of Southern Comfort.

Jim McAllister said...

Jim, after reading the last paragraph of your heady decision, and especially after reading Middy all these years...

So where were Butch and TSK going in that movie?- it was Bolivia- the train robbers paradise..

you're right Jim, yes he was. I agree that was a great song. I used to blast it full volume in my car. LOL

Jim McAllister said...

Proud,

Thanks for the concession of the win to Middy.

As James Cagney (playing George M. Cohan in "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (1942) said: "My father thanks you, my mother thanks you, my sister thanks you, and I thank you!"

As a Crown Royal man, do you think it is as good as it was years ago?

I remember when I first heard of it many years ago, it was considered the creme de la creme of fine whiskey and was very expensive and hard to find. But then it became more popular and it seemed like everyone was drinking it.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

I've been in and out today and haven't had a chance to call you back.

My favorite lines from Butch Cassidy are "I can't swim!" (laughter) "Cant' swim? Hell, the fall will probably kill you."

Also: "Who are those guys?"

Jim McAllister said...

Buzz,

Thanks for the Blackmore info. The guy could really play.

I love the constant 4 blues chords in "Smoke" and "Man on the Silver Mountain" was definitely a turn the volume up all the way and break off the knob song.

Damn, I need to be 21 again!

PROUD said...

Jim...Well, It's 5:45, my jail-bird/ bride and I began happy hour on the deck, promptly at 5PM (waited till the respectable hour)....

So I'd have to say: "YES...it's every bit as good (and then plus a smidge), as it ever was"....

These guys didn't mess with their already very successful recipe like Makers Mark did a year or so ago. Although, they do get a bit extravagant with there packaging, I mean, come on,...fancy box...velvet, monogrammed bag w/ draw-string...cut crystal glass bottle that has to weigh a couple pounds all by itself....IMO They have a great product that sells itself, they could easily drop the price about 5 bucks and keep all the fancy / schmancy packaging hype....(still, can't complain, Costco has it priced well, and my jailbird actually sells all the velvet bags at our annual yard sale)

PROUD said...

BTW, the 71 series was a great one, Must confess to joining the chorus of "we are family" (though, truth be told, I hadn't any sistah's with me) Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, underdog come from behind victory....What's not to like?

midnightsstaff said...

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

'71 was a great year for the Pirates. They had guys like Willie Stargell, Dave Parker, and the great Roberto Clemente.

They were a tight knit team and the Sister Sledge tune of "We are Family" really fit them perfectly.

Baltimore didn't have a chance.

Jim McAllister said...

Proud,

Glad to hear that about Crown. It seems like at one time it was considered quite special then, all of a sudden, it was pretty plentiful and everyone started drinking it.

I was afraid they cheapened it but I guess not.

As for me, I like to throw back 3 or 4 shots of SC with a 6 pack of Schlitz and I'm all set for a Friday night on the town! Yessir!

Oh, wait a minute; that was in 1963 and this is 2013.....never mind!

Jim McAllister said...

Happily, I see in this morning's paper that Sheriff Joe will live to see another day as Paula and her phonies failed in their attempt at a recall vote.

This seemed like front page stuff to me but it only got a small mention there and was relegated to the Valley and State section next to another Montini crybaby piece.

They were excited over that liberal judge and his ruling that Sheriff Joe was profiling Mexicans. Gee, why would he do that since 99% of illegals come from Mexico.

This is a good deal for all those Norwegians and Swedes who have been flowing in with the Mexicans. LOL!!!

What a joke the recall idiots are. Congrats Joe on beating back those fools.

PROUD said...

Maybe they're profiling me? I'm German / Irish...and about to mow my yard!

midnightsstaff said...

This recall strategy used by the left is designed not so much to get Arpaio and other insensitive types, but just as in pattern of ongoing IRS criminal behavior to also warn any principled person they will not be allowed to operate responsively without being targeted.

There is no difference other than degree between what we are witnessing today and the normal operations of a banana republic.

Fat, stupid sheeple will continue to tolerate any outrage as long as they think they are not directly affected.

I made a comment on the Washington Times on this issue yesterday and they had to take down some of the bilious curse infected responses directed at me by the intellectually challenged statists..

I love it- it proves my assessment is dead on target.

Mike Slater said...

Jim, I bet Paula and her buddy Randy Parraz, along with the other illegal lovers at the AZ Republic, Montini, Roberts, Benson and Valdez, must be crying in their beer because the recall failed. Maybe they should be put on suicide watch for their own safety.

The funny part is the gang at the Republic probably did more to get Joe reelected over the years.

midnightsstaff said...

Uh-oh.. slept through the whole thing today..
The Fed minutes pretty much confirmed what everyone paying attention knows..
"There is also concern about the possibility of a breakout of inflation, although current inflation risk is not considered unmanageable, and of an unsustainable bubble in equity and fixed-income markets given current prices"

bubble?- did he really say bubble?.. uh-oh the fed never says the "B" word especially with "unsustainable"...

So the market responds accordingly, I guess that couple of sentences was code for "it's getting close folks"- maybe going to do another short squeeze on the hedges first.

Relax folks, this is just part of the Change that normally happens in Hope and Change style dictatorships- goodbye housing rebound and probably everything else rebound as well.

Parraz sounds as loony as the Red Menace- both extremists are hate filled, blaming everyone but themselves and blinded to reality by their own agenda.

..screw this, going back to bed.

We have an aggressive police force in Goodyear as well as MCPD but what I can see has been very professional and that's getting rare all across America today, the Highway patrol is a much better force than California has now, the CHP is using the highways for a piggy bank to rob.. Did you notice that neighborhood watches are forming in Deeeeeetroittt because the police dept. is on first watch status.
they will try to hold the police station and that's about it..

Reporters were left wondering what they could / should, or shouldn't say... So Holder clarified things by saying,

"The contents of today's meetings are "largely" permitted for publication".

Confused??? i AM, "LARGELY" !

Jim McAllister said...

The new TV is great but stuff like Skype I will never use or that voice activated thing. They will remain disabled.

I can see Skype for a lot of people because of family ties as you have but neither Barb or I have any family so it's not much good for us. We don't need to see, nor do we usually want to see, who we are talking to.

Middy has told me before that I am behind the times on some things. For example, I still use a phone answering machine I bought about 20 years ago. He says I should have voice mail. I still don't know why. The only calls we get are from solicitors. LOL

Right now I am watching Tiger get killed in Jack's golf tournament. It's fun to watch him see how the other half lives!

Probably about time for another Beer summit, I don't see anything a couple of cold one's and a promise to be a little less totalitarian in the future towards them can't smooth out.

If not well then maybe then a not so gentle reminder of a few raw FBI files on the questionable behaviors of some in attendance could be a gentle reminder of who is in charge in these type of transformational movements.

Does anyone think the FBI wasn't taking videos and investigating the background of these clowns while they were in the honeymoon stage a couple of years ago?

I just listened Jason Lewis interview Dr. Ben Carson on Beatle bumper Friday show, it's too bad America will most likely never again trust their vote to a black person for the job no matter how qualified.

It's much too early to talk about a new pistol. I still have to go through my grievance period over the TV.

Jim, time to lose the .38 revolver. What you need is a Ruger .380 LCP semi-automatic pistol. It's only 5.16 inches long and weighs 9.4 ounces with an empty magazine. It hold 6 bullets in the magazine and one in the chamber. You can even get one with laser sights.

I bought one for my concealed carry weapon. My son is a cop and he has one as a backup weapon he carries at work and his days off. It's so small you can carry it in your pocket.

When off duty he carries it in his back pocket of his pants in case anyone would try to rob him. If they demand his wallet he has a little surprise for them.

The Ruger is made right here in Prescott Arizona.

Great clip of the Hindenburg. Does anyone remember the famous broadcast of the crash from Herb Morrison (1905-1989)?

This is the whole account although his most famous words that have been repeated for years were "Oh, the humanity!"

It's practically standing still now. They've dropped ropes out of the nose of the ship, and they've been taken a hold of down on the field by a number of men.]

It's starting to rain again; it's—the rain has slacked up a little bit. The back motors of the ship are just holding it just, just enough to keep it from — It burst into flames! Get this, Charlie! Get this, Charlie! It's fire—and it's crashing! It's crashing terrible! Oh, my, get out of the way, please! It's burning and bursting into flames, and the—and it's falling on the mooring-mast and all the folks agree that this is terrible, this is one of the worst catastrophes in the world. [Indecipherable word(s)] It's–it's–it's the flames, [indecipherable, possibly the word "climbing"] oh, four- or five-hundred feet into the sky and it ... it's a terrific crash, ladies and gentlemen. It's smoke, and it's flames now ... and the frame is crashing to the ground, not quite to the mooring-mast. Oh, the humanity and all the passengers screaming around here. I told you, I can't even talk to people whose friends are on there. Ah! It's–it's–it's–it's ... o–ohhh! I–I can't talk, ladies and gentlemen. Honest, it's just laying there, a mass of smoking wreckage. Ah! And everybody can hardly breathe and talk, and the screaming. Lady, I–I'm sorry. Honest: I–I can hardly breathe. I–I'm going to step inside where I cannot see it. Charlie, that's terrible. Ah, ah—I can't. I, listen, folks, I–I'm gonna have to stop for a minute because I've lost my voice. This is the worst thing I've ever witnessed.

Jim,

My mom was 18 and living in Queens when on that fateful day she saw the Hindenburg flying down towards NJ. It was one of those memorable moments people have, like where were you when Kennedy was shot or when the Challenger blew up?

PS Roxie Roker, who played Franklin Cover's black wife on The Jeffersons died back in 1995. Did you know that she was married to a Jewish guy and their son is musician Lenny Kravitz? He married Cosby's Lisa Bonet and their daughter Zoe is now an actress. Sorry. My head is stuffed with this stuff.

You're exactly right. I'm sure everyone who was around in 1937 remember that day like Kennedy and Challenger. I know I remember where I was on those two latter dates perfectly.

I had forgotten Roxie Roker as I was remembering that stuff rather tan looking it up. Now that I think about it, their other neighbor was named Paul Benedict I think. Wasn't he an English guy?

I always enjoyed Sherman Hemsley as George Jefferson. Truly a type "A".

I didn't know that about Lenny Kravitz. I wondered how he got the last name of Kravitz.

Interesting stuff, thanks!

The article goes on..

.."Statistics from the United States show that guns are used by citizens to defend themselves around eighty times more often than they are used to take a life.
A recent study published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy concluded that there is a negative correlation between gun ownership and violent crime in countries internationally, that is, "where firearms are most dense violent crime rates are lowest, and where guns are least dense violent crime rates are highest".

Jim, I paid $330 for my .380 about 4 years ago. I'm sure it's a little higher now but with your vast fortune that would be carrying around money.

In Arizona you don't need a license or have to register a weapon. You can also carry concealed in Arizona without a permit.Arizona is one of three states that allows this.

The reason I have a concealed carry permit is because we travel in the western states and New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Montana, Idaho and Utah all recognize my permit so I can carry concealed in those states.

The Brits only have themselves to blame for turning in their guns. It's so bad there that the British Olympic shooting team has to go to Europe to practice.

Obama is the best thing that ever happened for gun and ammo sales in this country.

Moving the topic back to the original quiz:

Now that I've had adequate time to contemplate, here are my (almost spontaneous) answers:

Does this get me the new Buick?

Bob was a good bowler. He used to average about 220 at Via Linda Lanes in our Monday Night Scratch Trio league there in the early 90's.

He was a left hander and we used to kid him that the only reason he bowled that well was because the left side was virgin territory because not many bowlers were left handed.

He owned a small print shop at Thunderbird and Scottsdale Road at that time. The obit said he had lived at Pinetop for the last 12 years and owned thgat fishing business. He was 70 years old.

Jim, one of the greats in pro football passed away Monday. David "Deacon" Jones. He was one of the Rams "Fearsome Foursome" along with Merlin Olsen, Lamar Lundy and Rosie Grier. Probably one of the best front fours in the NFL.

The only one left now is Rosie Grier and he's 80 years old.

As a kid growing up in Phoenix I became a Ram fan because the L.A. teams was about all we could get on radio or TV.

Deacon Jones played football for the pure joy of it, not for the money like players today.

I'll miss Deacon too. He was the master of the head slap which later was outlawed. I keep waiting for this pussy NFL to put the guys in skirts.

If you were a Rams fan in the old days you probably remember guys like Norm Van Brocklin and Billy Wade at QB. Their games used to come on about 4:00 on Sundays in Cincy and it was fun to watch them with the fans in short sleeves on a sunny day while were freezing and in the dark in Ohio.

I didn't know Lundy died but I remember when Merlin went. he wasn't that old and was a good TV announcer.

Mets. I was in 8th grade then. Don't remember anything else, but I could make some stuff up.

"You say you're sorry. Now you better go." or something like that. The song, "Thrown Down," isn't much good. Next!

I had a number of relatives who fought on D-Day. Grizzled men with tattoos, PBR and Lucky Strikes. Good times.

Debby Harry, right? I have no idea about the car or the song. And she was NOT the first successful rap song. C.J. McCall was the first one with "Wolf Creek Pass."

Jim, Lamar Lundy passed away at age 71 in February 2007. His whole career was with the Rams from 1957 to 1969.

I remember Roma Gabriel as the QB for a lot of years.

Being in L.A. some of the Ram and Dodger players worked in TV and the movies.

Speaking of cold winter days that was the downfall of the Ram teams. They were not a cold weather team. That's why they always lost to the Vikings in Minnesota.

Who the hell is rick kapple?

Thanks for teaching me capitalism - Rick Kepple said...

Pevie does have a point.

Actually, that's what the music industry has actually been asking lately, "Who the hell is Rick Kepple?"

And it turns out that the executives have been reading every word and are interested in doing business with the company that I created for a team of professionals like myself.

Seriously though, I had to pick your brains and when you let your guards down, that's when I learn the most. Thanks folks. Carry on.

Ricxk,

I said "considered by many to be the first rap song." I didn't say it was first since there is some doubt about it depending on who you talk to.

Pevie,

Huffpo AND the old grey lady herself, the NY Times.

The important thing now is to get him and get him hard while this stuff is hot.

Mike,

How could I have forgotten Roman Gabriel? He was the most famous of them all. If I remember right, he failed in Canada along with another ex-Ram Vince Ferragamo.

The running QB's like Warren Moon and Doug Flutie are the ones that did better in Canada with that larger field.

I miss all those guys. Football was better then.

Rick,

It looks like you have your foot semi in the door but better straighten them out on Kepple v. Kapple

Mike Slater said...

Jim, football was a lot better back then.

I rarely watch pro football games anymore, except for the Cardinals, they're always good for a few laughs.

Jim, I know the debate well on Blondie vs CJ McCall and the first actual rap song. Some people say that Jerry Reed was the dude who started rap. It's such a great discussion with professional musicians. It's an honor.

I have had to sell my firearms to finance the construction to transform a barn into a music studio. I am living on faith these days and bills have gone unpaid, such is my obsession. The lenders are impatient and probably charging me 200 percent interest. They have asked if I'm dying and I have no comment.

I've assembled a good team. I remember the advice that y'all taught me. "Sell everything but the home to finance the business," - DG.

One of my friends; his father worked for JFK. We have some pretty good conversations and he's very well educated. But he's a musician. They're all smart, you know. Smarter than me.

Dell Mack put his foot down and doesn't want me focusing on the past or politics or anything negative anymore. He's an elder and has come to visit me. So I listen to him. It's cool.

Rick Kepple, finally off the bench said...

Please make no mistake; I know myself well. It's why I created Lana Jefferies Music LLC and she runs it with myself and the other partners.

I am discovering myself, Jim. I just thought that I was weird for decades. Suddenly government and corporations are telling me that I'm brilliant, powerful and influential and it's really kind of freaking me out.

Dude, I can call a corporation, any of them, tell them that I want to speak to the president and they'll put me through. Apparently, I'm smart or something.

Did you know that people are actually wanting to invest in this company? They see the Green Screen demo of Lana and it sells itself.

Ninety percent of my ideas go to crap. This is the 10 percent that might do something, but only because I have a team that works together. Lana inspires that.

I agree Mike. It's rare to see a kickoff returned. It just goes through the end zone and they put it on the 30, or is it the 35? Either way it's BORING! I guess they are afraid someone might get a snag in their panty hose.

When I first started watching the pros in about 1950, they used to play some games on TV on Thursday nights.

They had great announcers like Ray Scott calling the games and because the stadium lights were so bad in those old stadiums they would use a white football with black circles on each point of the ball. Most of the players didn't wear face guards.

I think pro footballs days are numbered if they keep tampering with success. Fans want to see kickoffs and punts run back.

Good luck, Rick! You never know. Some exec just might like your stuff. Stranger things have happened.
