LOOKING BACK AT THE SCOTTSDALE OF DECEMBER, 2005

I'm taking a week off and re-printing a blog I wrote on December 14, 2005.  Those of you familiar with Scottsdale will surely remember the speed cameras on the 101, the Westworld tents with the American flags that were so controversial, and Scottsdale's flirting with light rail. That stuff is history now but was news in 2005.

I have lived in Scottsdale since 1987 and I have never regretted the decision to leave the icy winter climes of Kansas City and Cincinnati for this oasis in the desert. It's not that those are bad places. I grew up in Cincy and lived in Kansas City for many years after being stationed there in the Air Force so I had to leave many good friends behind but I felt the time had come to make my move.

Sunset in Scottsdale
I think it started when I was a kid in Cincinnati and would watch the football games from the west coast on television and see everybody in the stands in their bright colored clothes, laughing and having fun in the sunshine. As I watched the games it would be dark in Ohio, usually with icy rain beating against the windows, and the prospect of another thirty days without sunshine. Unlike the typical conservative Cincinnatian who would never leave their home town, all I could think about was the day I could live out west and fulfill my lifetime dream: to wear shorts and see lawn sprinklers operating on New Year's Day.

In December of 1979, I decided to run in the Fiesta Bowl Marathon in Scottsdale. A friend of mine who had run many marathons with me and I decided to drive from Kansas City to do the race. Well, that was that as I was hooked on the area as soon as I saw the flowers blooming in December. Eight long years later in 1987 I made the move and am glad I did.

As great as modern Scottsdale is, there are still some things that people here worry about which cause me to roll my eyes and shake my head: (1) Concerns about the speed cameras on the 101 freeway, (2) the "dreaded American flag" of Westworld's tent, and (3) light rail.

Why would anyone complain about speed cameras being anywhere? The speed limit is posted and that is the maximum you drive, period! If you do complain you are obviously in favor of breaking the speed limit and simply do not want to get caught. Isn't 75 MPH enough? I can't believe you are in that much of a hurry.

The Westworld American flag tent.  I loved it; a lot of
spoiled people didn't
I don't want to hear this silliness about speed traps, big brother, and a loss of rights either. Ask the families of the people whose loved ones have been killed on that road about rights. Besides, Scottsdale has their ubiquitous little radar vans on the streets every day to catch speeders, I don't hear complaints about them. Admit it, you just want to fly down that freeway.

I like the Westworld flag. Note to complainers: You probably got on the bandwagon after the gulf war and 9-11 adorning your cars with flag stickers and banners. At that time you didn't seem to worry about the aesthetics of patriotism.

Of course, those flags are gone now as that is yesterday's news. Well, in case you haven't noticed, we are still involved in war and the protection of our country from people who would like to kill you and your family. I suggest you put those flags back on your cars and salute the Westworld tent every time you have the pleasure of seeing it. Don't tell me that it is unsightly and destroys the looks of your neighborhood. It is your country's flag plus it is not even close to you; it is surrounded by Westworld's barns, fairgrounds, ugly three story apartments, an ice rink, and an office park.

Scottsdale made the right decision by not approving
light rail
Light rail is nothing but a modern streetcar. Phoenix used to have those but disbanded them about 50 years ago for gasoline buses. They do need some type of public transportation and if they want to waste their money on light rail that's up to them.

As far as Scottsdale, I'm proud of the city council for shelving the idea of light rail. Of course, the idealists disagree. They think that the citizens of Scottsdale will actually ride light rail. Yeah, just like they ride the buses in Scottsdale: one at a time and that's the driver by himself. Do they really think that people who live in Troon or Desert Highlands are going to inconvenience themselves to save a couple bucks on gas and help the environment? The people who believe that are sadly lacking in knowledge of human nature.

Remember, this is the place where people sit parked in their idling $50,000, 8 miles to the gallon air conditioned SUV's, burning $3 per gallon gas and talking on their cell phones. They are not going to ride a streetcar and at a $54 million installation cost per mile plus subsidies this would be a folly of utmost proportions.

Yes, Scottsdale is wonderful but some of us are spoiled with our great lifestyle. Maybe we need to stop a moment and smell our Starbuck's coffee.

Jim, I've had one speeding ticket in all my years of driving and that was when I was 16 and just starting to drive. I learned my lesson. Now Deb complains I drive too slow.

The only other ticket I got was a red light one back in the 90's and had to go to traffic school.

Deb, on the other hand has a lead foot. A couple of years ago she got a speeding ticket and a red light ticket in the same month. She had to go to driving school for the red light one but since the speeding ticket was a photo radar one on the 101 we tossed it in the garbage and never heard anything about. By Arizona law a speeding ticket has to be signed for and since it came in the mail there is no reason to honor it.

I used to work a lot out in north Scottsdale for the phone company and always enjoyed my time out there. The only thing I regret is all the building out there took away some of my favorite hunting spots. I guess that's what they call progress.

Today is November 8, I have been watching the early evening stars on the balcony in my t-shirt and shorts .. a little light rain fell a while ago but no thanks for the four seasons.. especially where two are winter and they split the rest.

God I miss the mosquitoes- but I forget my manners,I believe Cincinnati doesn't have mosquitoes either.

I don't like having to drive in the snow, not so much for myself but strange things happen in bad weather driving.. except for that one time in Montana we happened on a beer truck in the ditch and the driver had abandoned it... that was an early Christmas present.

You guys dodged the bullet on that light rail scam, it's insanity any way you look at it.
Same thing with the Coyotes it looks like, that franchise is going to be a white elephant in a collapsing market- but maybe the economy will just be fine and we will all be happy after a great turnaround Christmas, home watching local hockey and our great hometown Cardinal's led by John Skelton winning the Superbowl.

..all right, that's jumping the shark.

midnightsstaff said...

Ya know Jim, I was going to make a comment on current events, but I just looked at Drudge and there is absolutely no bad news!

There is nothing but puff pieces about neighbors pitching in for one another, lost puppies being reunited with their owners, great acts of good will among men, boy scouts helping old ladies across the street and sightings of the long thought extinct unicorn.

evidently the unicorn population is alive and prospering all over DC and the northeast- at the moment.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

That's funny about Deb's ticket and you guys tearing it up. I remember when someone discovered that they could do that so that was pretty much the end of cameras.

Yes, it's pretty built up now in N. Scottsdale. We are at about the northernmost part and it's still desert but no hunting in that area.

I missed a deer this week by an inch on N. Pima Road. He came from nowhere off the side of the road. I jammed on the brakes but I don't know how I missed him. Still have great reflexes I guess! LOL A car was coming the other way and he missed him too as he ran into the desert. One lucky deer!

Back in 1993 I did hit one head on in the dark outside Wickenburg. It smashed my nice 1990 Buick Riviera to the tune of $750!

Jim McAllister said...

Sonny,

We're through with the colds. Thanks for asking. I think I knocked mine out with a 12 pack of Stella Artois!

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

Cincy has plenty of mosquitos. Humid and hot and wet in the summer.

The Chamber of Commerce was 100% for light rail in 2005 which figured for those losers.

I went to a debate between Councilman Bob Littlefield and the head guy at the Chamber over light rail and if I didn't dislike the Chamber so much I would have felt sorry for that poor sucker as Littlefield wiped the floor with him.

Needless to say, light rail failed but I'm sure they will make another pitch one of these days.

It looks like the Diamondbacks will be back playing before the Coyotes.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

I have felt very relaxed the last couple of days now that the election is over. I'm just going to sit back and watch Obama fall all over himself with screwups.

He has a lot on his plate and I'm sure you'll agree that he is not up to it. The CBO is already warning about some things, he has the fiscal clift, his department heads look like they will scurry, and I don't think Benghazi is over whether the public cares or not.

All his show business friends may find out that he is a weakling after all sooner than we thought i think.

How about Iran shooting down that drone?

midnightsstaff said...

You should petition for another light rail project and get it started, after all it's free money and once it gets going it turns into a real money maker for the local community.

Scottsdale should probably should ask for some windmills too while your at it- they have worked out great everywhere they have been built.

How about a windmill powered light rail?
Set it up so the electricity generated to run it is eco friendly, that way everyone can witness the power of renewable energy, make sure to drive it home to everyone what "free stuff" really means.

Put a wind sock up at the station's so you can tell if the train will run or not, schedules would vary due to wind conditions.
the ultimate unicorn experience would be a self contained system with a windmill attached- now that is progressive thinking.

Two bad days on the market, but today looks like it's going to be a good one or at least as good as yesterday.

Apple has only lost nearly ten percent of it's value in two days and the pre market shows at thirty min. out from open the Dow at minus 70 and holding.
that's bullish.

these numbers only indicate to me that the economy is finally starting to rebound and our future has never been brighter, it's a great buying opportunity anyone can see.

..get in now so you don't miss the boat, it's going to be just great- just like with Allstate "you are in good hands"

Look! another unicorn.

"How about Iran shooting down that drone?"

I was at Dell Mack's studio yesterday filming with the new camcorder that I bought. Retired radio DJ/gospel artist/newspaper editor Ray Campbell/Carson was there and he's not doing well these days since his dear wife passed. Some of you might know Ray. I got both Ray and Dell on tape, so to speak and Ray was telling stories. Priceless!

Suddenly, a news story came on TV with a press statement that Iran had just fired on an American aircraft.

Obama may or may not give warning before attacking Iran. Legally, Iran fired on an American aircraft. I don't know if there are laws concerning manned or unmanned aircraft. It bears our flag. If they attack our aircraft, they are attacking America.

We have to trust the intelligence sources and our military leaders to do a good job in protecting us, even if we have to provoke a response to show how great of a threat Iran is to Americans. Basically, we just need to get them, before they get us with another 9/11. But it must appear to be Iran's fault for starting a war.

Republican or Democrat, thems the rules.

Rick Kepple said...

Jim, you make Scottsdale and Phoenix look so inviting, but you know me, always researching. Well, the cost of living between where I live (no mortgage) and Maricopa County is astronomically different. I have no doubt that at some point, I may snowbird and that's the real reason for finding someone to room with, for they may watch the farm in my absence.

The winters can get cold in Missouri, as you know Jim. But I'm a bit farther south than KC, where the wind can bite and the snow is deep. Brrrrr!

For now, the pain is minimal, but when cold weather hits, I will experience muscle spasms, but I'm going to try wearing down jackets, even inside. If I can get this music studio self-sustaining, get at least my money back, then I can maybe also have a salary and work from a distance.

Also Jimmy, I don't speak Espanol and that would definitely make me unemployable in Arizona. It's almost mandatory to be bilingual.

Bottom line is that I grew up poor. I've been homeless. I struggled when the wife was alive and the Indie music industry is in its infancy and is the only way a guy like me can make a decent living with my medical problems. Dell Mack's company is my only chance, Jimmy.

Fortunately, I live in America, where a man can become rich with honest work and a hell of a lot of luck!

I hang out with you guys, because you're my examples. I'm learning from y'all and it's a difficult transition in thinking. And as long as I don't get bogged down, depressed, relying on SN to keep me alive, and creative, I'll be moving forward.

In closing, I told Ray Campbell that I learned a lot from him, but he humbly declined the compliment. Ray says that I've had a lot of good mentors since my parents died long ago. Ray knew Dora too. I think back on my life, and I've been very blessed and God is going to continue blessing me, with friends like you guys.

Rick Kepple said...

Jimmy, you and Barb better watch those colds. It could turn into pneumonia really easy out there! The first time I ever got pneumonia was in Las Vegas during hundred degree temps back about 96, or so.

Drink lots of juice and water. Take mucinex to cough that stuff up. Don't die. That's an order!

midnightsstaff said...

I forgot all about the surge in new jobs being created, and again on Drudge, nothing but good news.

It seems we have entered into an new era of respect and compassion for our fellow man, this nation has finally broken the bonds of racial distrust and reached a state of cooperation no one could have imagined.

The good black citizens are starting to reach out to their white oppressors in a way that can only be experienced first hand to appreciate.

that drone thing never happened, how could it? after all Iran respects us for who we are- that was just another dirty trick rumor in an election season, I couldn't tell you why it didn't make news until after the election- if I were more cynical I might suspect the media for ignoring it, but to what purpose?

I'll bet there will be no crime in Chicago this first post election weekend- they will be too busy celebrating.
.."if they bring a knife to the party, you bring a gun"
well spoken, well spoken indeed, and from a man who doesn't believe in personal firearms possession.. now that's truly remarkable.

Rick Kepple said...

I did a word search (timesaver) and I can't figure out where Middy got the quote ... "if they bring a knife to the party ..." and who doesn't believe in personal firearms possession? I don't carry one myself, but I believe in concealed carry, but for anyone and not just permitted people.

Rick Kepple said...

Middy, your post went to How to Wear a Scarf and fashion crap. Nothing about knives or guns.

Mythbusters has a video on Youtube proving that you can in fact take a knife to a gunfight and win. They proved that if a person with a knife gets within 18 feet, you are a dead man. They can rush that far, that fast.

In concealed carry firearm classes, State Troopers teach that if a person has a knife and is within 10 feet, they can kill you, before you can draw and fire. So you have just ONE chance to pull that handgun, pull the slide back in one deft motion, aim and fire before a person covers that distance.

http://youtu.be/ckz7EmDxhtU

The great revolver expert, Elmer Keith, proved that a double action revolver is faster than a slide action pistol and the knife weilder has a greater chance of dying.

I personally prefer a combat style Ruger, myself. No safety. Just a decocker and I have to slide it during a draw. I'd lose to a knife.

Rick Kepple said...

"thats funny,I just watched that video before I saw it here. "

I highlighted, blocked and pasted Middy's post to Google and Youtube. Only got fashion sense, but they were nice scarfs.

Hey steve.. it's not as tho Jim doesn't feel the same, but you gotta remember we have been in the ring for quite a while, once you are on medicare like both of us are you just have to back off for a while, there is no sense giving yourself an early heart attack.

death panels are going to give us enough problems already..

I would gladly trade a personal case of cancer for having the right thing done for the nation but what is.. is.

Remember the adage, "I don't want to die for my country, I want to make the other son of a bitch die for his"
a civil war at this time is the last thing we need, but sadly it's not off the table.

And there is no sense discussing it as long as the conversation is centered around the fallacy that Mitt Romney just didn't get enough votes.
at least for the moment.

Rush, Mark and a lot of others are just not accepting the obvious right now and continuing the charade.

No one went Gault on Tuesday, but a lot are going to do it now.

OOps! there goes the the unemployment numbers back up!

Plus he says he will not budge on the tax increase for the $250M and up people as part of a compromise.

PLUS What's the deal with Petraus? Is that a smokescreen for Benghazi?

Plus the cabinet is bailing which may be a good thing for him but is probably showing dissatisfaction.

Plus trhe CBO is saying we may see 9.1 employment!

Have fun, Barack!

Buzz,

What I mean by "sitting back and relaxing" is that I know the dumb shit is going to eventually be exposed for the phony crook that he is and it's enjoyable to sit back and watch him hang himself.

He is the perfect example of the Peter Principle and his incompetence will continue to verify that.

Look at all the companies firing people already and overtly blaming Obama for it.

He also says he won't budge on the tax increase for the 250M and above people. How do you think he will pull that off?

This thing with Petraus and his girlfriend looks phony. I'm sure Benghazi has something to do with that.

The list will keep growing and I want to relax and watch the sucker squirm.

midnightsstaff said...

makes no difference what the ue numbers are, just call it 2 or 3 and be done with it..

Yeah as long as the trail they want us to accept stays off the truth nothing can be done.
Problem is now changed from not enough voters to get him elected again if he wants but to deal with those useful idiots who are not so useful any longer with a whole lot less revenue coming in.

Our only thing left to do right now is get every free program offered and drive this thing into the ground faster.
food stamps, phones, housing, plain old welfare and medicare.. go to the doctor once a week if that is what it takes.
it's not going to take long to run out of stolen money, and the more dependent you are on the govt. tit the sooner the collapse will hurt, and I want it to hurt plenty.

It's your patriotic duty to spend as much of what they think is their own money as fast as possible.
He will be forced to get rid of unnecessary useful idiots just like every other dictator does.

Vote count is immaterial now because the slot machines the Republicans are not even questioning are always house heavy..

plenty of muslims headed for the new administration.. you bet there are.

The General might be found dead before he has to testify to Congress.
the humiliation and all ya know.. sad isn't it? too bad he wasn't the same caliber of a soldier as Bill Clinton- hell Bill wouldn't even admit it- now that's dedication to duty.

Too bad he let himself be set up and then used by these evil bastards and then thrown under the bus like grandma.

How you decide to not testify to congress is still a mystery to me..
are you starting to see a picture? Eric gone, CIA director gone, Hillary gone, it's a freakin' miracle, sort of a mulligan if you will.

a clean slate, no re election to slow him down and plenty of real radicals to appoint.
the chickens are home.

watch for elevations below 3500 feet for the morongo

southern Nye County... which is in effect from Saturday evening
through Sunday morning. This freeze watch is for the potential
first freeze of the season.
* Expected temperatures: lows of 26 to 32 degrees are expected
Saturday night.

That's the weather forecast for Twentynine Palms.. looks like the winter storms are getting a jump this year Jim, it gets damn cold in the high deserts- we got it good.

Anyway, I have been noticing a lot of early geese this year, string after string of them are packing in somewhere near, I gotta feeling this winter is going to be one of those cool wet ones once it gets for real.
my guess is as good as the weather guy's eh?
But for the most part it's been pretty darn nice.

Steve, Middy.

We were all so happy last week at this time thinking there was no way Romney would lose.

Now, we all have the dobbers down and for good reason: Obama won.

I'm really disappointed in this country but not tremendously surprised when half the people here can hardly write, spell, or speak, or think correctly. Like proud said, "They never heard or care about Benghazi."

We are now the minority and the Beyonces, Michael Moores, Jay-Z's, and Samuel Jackson's and the 99 per centers rule.

It seems like it happened so fast that we couldn't see it coming.

Rick Kepple said...

"Barb goes through a LOT of Mucinex. I think she has stock in the company."

Yeah, she's making money from me too, then. I'd get pneumonia if it wasn't for mucinex.

"OOps! there goes the the unemployment numbers back up!"

What are you laughing at Jim? They're supposed to HIRE during the holiday season, not FIRE. If companies are firing now, just imagine what they'll be doing after this dismal holiday shopping season.

BTW, I found a nice used Epiphone SG at the music store. It's got a bad switch, so they're replacing that, adjusting the intonation and lowering the strings for fast play.

Deer hunting season starts this morning and I am going as a matter of tradition. My hunting partner is blonde and she'd look good on the cover of a magazine too!

We have freezing temps moving in after Sunday. 76 today, two inches of rain Sunday, 43 on Monday.

midnightsstaff said...

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) told Greta Van Susteren tonight that Petraeus will be questioned before Congress despite his resignation today.

“The fact that he’s resigned and had an affair has nothing to do with whether he will be subpoenaed to Congress. I hope we don’t have to subpoena a four star general and a former CIA director. I would hope he would come voluntarily but if he won’t he will be subpoenaed. And none of what happened today is an offense to a subpoena… He’s either a witness in our case in chief or he’s gonna be a rebuttal witness if Susan Rice and others blame him for their failure of intelligence and failure of information. But there is no way we can get to the bottom of Benghazi without David Petraeus.”

looks like the log jam just got broken.

Rick Kepple said...

The Patraeus resignation thing seems suspicious. Nothing is ever what it seems when the CIA is concerned. And the truth of what actually happened in Benghazi may never be known. I'd guess that it's a case of over-diplomacy and having no definition of negative kind of Muslims.

A friend was telling me of a sniper's story and how he's watched the Taliban in Afghanistan having sex with donkeys before he shot them. Apparently in some countries, donkey boinking is considered normal. They boink donkeys in Costa Rica too. Testimony says that men from Muslim and Catholic backgrounds in poor countries typically have their first sexual experience with a donkey. I saw a video investigating the sick phenomenon on Youtube and the journalists actually interview young men who started on donkeys.

So why are we even helping people like that?

Jim McAllister said...

Jim, when over half the country votes for a guy like Obama it's because they want free stuff. Can we say Greece here pretty soon?

Once this country goes broke and all the leeches aren't getting their government check the rioting will start. Buy more ammo and lock and load.

midnightsstaff said...

what makes you think they won't get that check? there is a printing press you know..

Once the theft of the fruit of labor is exhausted and they have nationalized all pension and retirement accounts into social security they will begin to tax individual wealth- that ten year old beater you are pushing around will have to be taxed- not to mention all the seizure of property that will be easier with a Supreme Court that has been fixed.

Remember Obama is going to sponsor a UN inspired Global tax on us as well.

Even VAT taxes will not generate enough to fund a marxist inspired welfare state- just ask the European union.

Just understand this thing will not be over in a weekend and we will get back to normal.

..bread 7.00 a loaf, gas ten bucks a gallon- no jobs by next election in two years because of obamacare will produce a shrinking revenue and depression.
it's that simple.

We entered the Great Depression in 1931 and it lasted until at least two years after the war- 16 years..

Change happened only when the Republicans took over congress and the government stopped spending money on tanks, guns and airplanes- today it's contraceptives, section eight vouchers for muslim immigrants and education loans to launder payback of campaign support by academia..

Change will never happen again as long as free and honest elections have been rendered obsolete.

Keep blaming the campaign or Mitt Romney and focusing on other ridiculous things they want you to see like changing demographics, women's rights, etc as the reason decency was defeated and you are wasting time chasing bunnies.

I have realized that right now I am wasting time with those who don't even know the color of the truck that just hit them because they are still looking the wrong direction.

Republicans are just stupid about politics and easily fooled, there is no other explanation.

midnightsstaff said...

well enough about that I guess..

It sure looks to me like there is not gonna be any hockey this season, these players have got to be kidding, they got an agreement on profit sharing and now they are demanding they get paid for a whole season this year no matter how few games they play..

If the owners cave into that I don't see how about ten or so franchises don't have to shut down.. not to mention putting the damper to someone wanting to buy the Coyotes and paying this year's salary on top of no season...
great selling point- that ought to get a line forming.
nothing makes any sense anymore.

Black is white, up is down, rinse- repeat.

Do you remember that great twilight zone episode "Howling Man"?

That was the one that there was a rod across the door of a guy who talked the traveler into letting him go.. and yeah it was the devil..

There is a lesson to be learned without committing suicide.. if only we didn't have such a dumbed down society.
What a great moral lesson we used to get on prime time television shows, and that was on See BS I believe.

Now.. if there wasn't football what's left you can stomach?
I sure can't watch that crap without wanting to throw something.

Not to laugh at a tragedy but they are actually considering using an abandoned prison in New York to house the victims of the hurricane.

.."Our facilities staff have to go through it to determine what it would take to get it up and running for such a purpose," Peter Cutler, a spokesman for the state Department of Corrections, told the newspaper. "Of course, the challenge is the fact that it was closed a year ago and all of the major infrastructure components, such as boilers and waste water system, were deactivated"

Are these people frickin high all day every day of the week?
I got to believe that the new magnet for the criminally insane is in the elected east coast political office.

Except of course J.Jackson jr/jr. who actually is still in the home for the criminally insane soon to be released and return to public service as soon as a few pesky allegations of who knows what is cleared up..

As the triumphant Caesar he is he will be greeted with all the love and adoration that Chicago can offer.

But as to the worst Idea of the month so far?
I wouldn't willingly move inside a prison with lights and running water, much less some abandoned dungeon out of the past century.

It might be more humane to just bayonet the survivors..

Rats the size of poodles.

Rick Kepple said...

"Not to laugh at a tragedy but they are actually considering using an abandoned prison in New York to house the victims of the hurricane."

Well Middy, I guess you forgot that the Republicans had a plan to house the homeless in an abandoned prison and teach them basic things like brushing their teeth. How convenient for you to forget that.

That's what I love about politics. Wait long enough and you always get what you want.

Now if this plan works, it will set a precedent for the rest of the nation to house the homeless in abandoned buildings, but without the crack.

Don't laugh, Middy. It is better than leaving them on the street during the winter. And it will give the House Republicans something to do, with debating the merits of helping the homeless. Busy minds and all that.

The screwy part of the whole mess is that no one seems to look at the past results of socialism and see that it really doesn't work, hence Greece, etc.

All these mooching a-holes in this country know is that they can get free stuff through a loser like Obama. They don't think about what happens when the well runs dry like in France, Spain, Greece, etc.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

Hopefully if we make it through the next four years (or sooner if numb nuts slips on a banana peel or something else slippery) there will be enough intelligent people around to see the light and get away from his socialist ideology.

I'm grasping at straws though because that should have happened this time. Now I see where Allen West is probably beaten. They are still counting but he is 2,000 back.

As long as we have that Beyonce, Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Clooney mentality, we are in trouble.

I wonder where they will hide those numbers in the unemployment from all the people being canned now because of Obamacare? I see a backlash coming from business that the libs were too stupid to even think off.

What's going to happen to the fiscal cliff? O says he is immovable on his stance to tack more taxes on the wealthy. He is too stupid to know that couples making $250m are not THAT rich.

What a fool and he gets away with it. The product of a stupid electorate and a complete embarrassment.

Jim McAllister said...

Yeah, hockey is done this year. Let those guys look for real jobs and see how much they make. There is always Europe but I doubt if they pay like here.

I really don't care anymore if pro sports just disappear. I read those transaction columns on the sports page and shake my head at guys being offered $10 million a year and holding out for $12 million.

Jim McAllister said...

That's funny about the prison. They ought to lure all those new York liberals in there , lock the doors, and throw away the keys.

Funny about Jesse Jr. This election has me wondering what the hell is happening to this country.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

Good idea about the prison punch. I understand Martha Stewart made some nice wine in one of those stainless steel toilets when she was in.

I think rats get a bad rap too. They are pretty tasty if cooked properly.

It's Veterans day.. I didn't bother with the flag today, nor yesterday either on the Marine Corps birthday, I guess it doesn't matter, no one has mentioned either on any blog I have read so far..
not one effin' word.

We have been fundamentally transformed from a nation who's military would not leave their dead on the field to one who will not admit there was even a battle.

you make the call.

These States have requested that the Obama Administration grant a peaceful withdrawal from the United States"

Da Joisey and New Yaork?- that's gotta be a misprint.. or this is another Onion article.

Like I said this thing is probably not just going to go away peacefully.
Declaring succession or even thinking such thoughts could be considered as treason.
it's been that way ever since the French Revolution..

Of course it didn't work with the Nazi's that first time either.

went right over your head with that one.. eh hot chick?

Mike Slater said...

Middy, I always remember Veterans day because my dad was a WW11 vet. He passed away on 10 Nov. 2000 the day before Veterans day and was buried with full military honors in his hometown of Ash Fork Arizona.

I used to fly my American flag every day of the year until Obama was elected in 2008. Haven't flown it since but I may start flying it again upside down to protest his reelection.

steve buzzardo said...

The sad thing about Veterans Day is Obama going to Arlington to make a speech. The lying bastard talking about veterans is disgusting.

Im going to fly a "Dont Tread on Me flag" for the next 4 years.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

Goddam! I read about Louisiana requesting to leave the US but I haven't heard of the rest of them requesting to go.

This is great stuff even if it is only symbolic since it shows another form of protest to the bastard.

I think that the capitol should be moved to L. A. (preferably in Watts) so O can be closer to his phony friends in Hollywood and any state that wishes to secede should be able to do so.

I was born in Florida so maybe I can get a special dispensation from them to move back.

I love this country; Americans always have the ingenuity to strike back somehow when they know they have been wronged.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

I put a small flag out front on all military holidays. I wish I could fly a large one on a pole but we have CCR's here that don't allow it.

I think flying the flag upside down is a nice protest to O. You have my support.

Jim McAllister said...

Steve,

He should be banned from Arlington or any other military place. He is an embarrassment to the brave guys who have died for this country.

I always laugh when I see him hop off AF1 and salute a military man as he comes down the steps. He never served a day in his life for this country and doesn't even know how to properly salute.

Watts doesn't deserve that... compared to DC Watts is a model community filled with honest, patriotic industrious citizens plus most are native born Americans.

Besides Maxine Watters has that community whipped into the best economic shape it's been in for the last sixty years.

With the success story that Watts provides to the nation it's proof that Clownaforina is finally on the right track.

Through innovative new methods of funding their streamlined approach to government service it's no wonder that the STD stronghold of the left coast is now demonstrating to an incredulous nation what leading by example really means.

Along with their sister state Illinois they have been blazing a pathway to prosperity, breaking wind as tho it were a symphony to all like minded states that follow.
Pax Clownafornia..

thanks to this election, a depression is no longer a possibility..

Mike Slater said...

Jim, your CCR's must have been written by liberals.

From now on I'll fly the American fly upside down next to my Confederate flag and my add the "Don't tread on me" flag for good measure just to piss off liberals.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

We can put out flags as I did today, just no poles that are permanent fixtures.

It's a technicality really; I probably could put up a pole and they wouldn't say anything but I get the point across with the flags I have.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

You're the best at tongue in cheek humor. LOL

midnightsstaff said...

It's just venting.
Really Jim when you finally admit that the country has abandoned Reason what else can you do?

I saw a guy my age delivering pizzas yesterday, wonder how much longer that job will be available?

We have two sides of the same coin with the red and blue politics in the nation, only thing left for me to do is switch my registration to Democrat seeing how the Republicans are pretty much finished- besides in totalitarian societies they tend to punish their opposition and the IRS has been given a whole lot more agents who need something to do with Obamacare.

Thanksgiving next week and another wasted year on the books with another Christmas in the shitter, putting a flag up is starting to strike me the same as voting.. It seems a useless gesture when you are living in an entirely corrupt nation with a dictator making rules as he goes.
It's the first time I have ever felt this there really isn't any hope of change with only greater destruction to look forward to.

And I am really tired of waking up at 4 am everyday worrying about my grand kid's dismal future- you just can't ignore some things.

I still have your mess hall spoon from Camp Lejeune. ;)

Jim McAllister said...

Glo,

Those of us who are veterans thank you.

Middy actually fought a lot of battles in Vietnam in the late 60s and I applaud his bravery for his time in service.

I am a little older than Middy and served from 1961-1965 in the USAF and was fortunate enough to serve in peace time although we had a close shave in '62 with the Cuban Missile Crisis.

In those days service time was the law in this country. It still should be. Today, that is not the case and it was a mistake to dump the draft. The military turned a lot of kids into men.

It does not bode well that companies are laying off at Christmas, when hiring is typical. Experts are predicting that 2013 is when the real collapse is coming in the economy.

So what if people go broke? How are banks going to afford to repossess everything? Except China. They'll repossess America.

Where better for a pedophile to operate but in the culture of PBS's children's network?

crude jokes aside, there is a very serious problem in this nation and I don't see anyone too bothered about it, if you focus on the situation you are mocked as a religious bigot, because like most evil practices pedophilia is not only tolerated in the Communist party it is encouraged right along with stealing elections.

.."The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can't get and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is made good by looting A to satisfy B. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale of stolen goods"
HL Mencken

It's not sorcery or divination of the future to see exactly what will be the outcome of the election Jim, the results are predictable because history proves it again and again... yeah there will be a flutter of hope until after Christmas when the whole monument to a house of cards collapses..
Looks to me like the big boys are pulling the scaffolding out and trying to unwind themselves without spooking a crash, maybe it will work.

Ironically East Coast communists envision the idea of a Swedish or Danish version of Socialism, what they don't realize is they are going to get an African version instead, machetes and all.

midnightsstaff said...

.."All government, in its essence, is a conspiracy against the superior man: its one permanent object is to oppress him and cripple him. If it be aristocratic in organization, then it seeks to protect the man who is superior only in law against the man who is superior in fact; if it be democratic, then it seeks to protect the man who is inferior in every way against both. One of its primary functions is to regiment men by force, to make them as much alike as possible and as dependent upon one another as possible, to search out and combat originality among them. All it can see in an original idea is potential change, and hence an invasion of its prerogatives. The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is very apt to spread discontent among those who are"

HL Mencken

No truer words were ever spoken.. "One of its primary functions is to regiment men by force, to make them as much alike as possible and as dependent upon one another as possible, to search out and combat originality among them"

The Communist mind cannot tolerate individuality, it will be stamped out by any means possible, after all, those knowing the true meaning of individual Liberty are by definition the enemy of the collective.

HL Mencken wrote these words in 1919, two years after my dad was born, things don't change all that much it seems, and it also is evident to a reasonable person that man no matter how evolved is simply incapable of learning some lessons.

Wouldn't matter as much except aapl is 20% of the nasdaq.. and that matters.

Samsung now has aapl by the sack, and is not letting go soon, they are after all savoring the slow destruction..

Apple simply became complacent and lost their vision, forgetting that it's not good practice to sue their sole provider in court for hundreds when thousands are left in play.
payback is a ........

aapl needs Samsung, Samsung does not need aapl, and that's a lesson that should be obvious but for some reason isn't.
Just like elections have consequences.

“But it’s pretty disappointing when you think that just a few states really determine who’s been elected president,” Brewer said. “And they get all the attention"

Sadly even the elected officials in Arizona have no idea of why the Electoral College is a brilliant idea for a free society..

Brewer is a cocker spaniel when it comes to critical thinking it seems, but I hear a lot of people equally clueless saying the exact same thing.. "we want a true democracy", once again focusing on the relationship between the shell and pea and not the missing pea.

Evidently she has never cracked a book...what fools..

.. it seems to me that we don't deserve a representative republic any more than an honest election with this type of ignorant leadership.

.."What is not true, as everyone knows, is always immensely more fascinating and satisfying to the vast majority of men than what is true. Truth has a harshness that alarms them, and an air of finality that collides with their incurable romanticism"

time to grow up America- the electoral system is not the problem- it's similar to rebuilding the transmission when the problem is the gas tank is empty.

.."Representatives from about 40 of the 80 stores expected to open this fall at Tanger, at Westgate City Center, will accept applications for inventory assistants, managers, cashiers and other positions"

Well it appears the new outlet mall near the Coyotes rink is going to be opening and are taking applications for employment- maybe that will give the new grads from ASU some hope eh?, make that degree pay off.

I hope it makes it because it looks to me like the franchise is done..

I also hope the project doesn't end up like all the others around here with over half the storefronts up for lease for years at a time..

It doesn't look good for any sports team if you ask me, the Dbacks are a couple of years away from a rebuild,
and the Cardinals are hell bent on making that latest quarterback search last for ten full years by betting the house on career back ups, the Suns are playing to half sold arenas..
maybe sports just can't make it in this town unless it's soccer, harassing illegals, Indian casinos or dog racing..

If the Diamondbacks can get the fans "involved" they can increase their attendance. That works for music or anything else too. It can be just a little thing.

I work in public relations and I still have no idea how to create the perfect marketing idea. My example is Pet Rocks. Who would have ever thought you could glue eyeballs on an ordinary stone and make money.

My parents used to say that the greatest product to mankind is something that people don't need, but everyone thinks they do.

Turn sand into a happy product related to the Dbacks and you'll have no desert left, but the seats full.

Just FYI, my two employees and I had a nifty meeting yesterday. We're gonna work out of my home and we're coming up with new business ideas to do with the equipment. So we're all largely in training mode now and I'm not worried. In fact, I think we can make things work better without a bunch of musicians running around like chickens with their heads cut off and no clue how to run a business! It was a nice experiment though.

Anyway, I've got to shoot Don a message. That studio didn't respect Don Petersen's advice, but I do. My music dude, Nick, is going to start talking to him and get advice since he's running the music side of the business. I'm running the video side and the computer tech is having to train on everything.

Don't worry guys. The GOP Congress won't let Obama muss your world up. They're gonna have to compromise and we both know the Bush tax cuts will be modified. They're just playing games and it all be just fine.

Just remember this folks; Obama's wealthy too and rich people are not designed to be on Food Stamps. You're not gonna go broke.

Middy,

The Pima tribe on this side of town announced a couple years ago that they were going to put up a Tanger outlet mall by Via Ventura and the 101.

They are also building an entertainment complex that was announced a couple of years ago and is now breaking ground at the same area.

I remember about 10 years ago when the outlet malls were really doing some business. Such bargains!

All of a sudden it was found out that the great deals offered were cheaper products made specifically for malls.

One of the malls south of town folded I believe and the big one by Anthem up north almost did. I think they have made a bit of a comeback.

Tanger at Westgate will be interesting. Not exactly high end stuff but anything to get people into that area should help. I'm sure the multitude of jobs being offered will be low pay and part time.

With the scourge of obamacare, all companies large and small are adjusting to it and it's not a good time for employees. Companies are cutting hours, letting people go, dropping health insurance and taking the $2,000 fine. I see where Denny's joined the crowd yesterday that includes the Darden Restaurants, KFC, Papa Johns, and others.

I hope that all the Obama votyers like what is happening to them. Maybe they will know better next time. Actually, no.....they will not learn because they are dumb asses.

Middy,

After the Suns reaction to 1070 a couple years ago I have joined Mike S. and others rooting against them as hard as possible.

Screw Steve Nash, Robert Sarver and the rest of the jerk organization with their Los Suns jerseys to support illegal immigration.

The irony is that Nash will be coming to town playing for the Lakers who now have Mike D'Antoni as their coach.

I wonder if Whisenhunt will be canned after starting the season 4-0. Has that ever happened?

They have the 49ers coming up but Alex Smith had a concussion last week. I hope he can play.

The D-Backs were as mediocre last year as this year even though they won many more games last year and won their division. The difference is that last year's crew of proven journeyman players somehow all had good years at the same time; very unusual in sports.

This year reality reared its ugly head. With free agency you can't win in baseball without a ton of money to buy players. I see guys getting dough now that would have paid a whole team in the 70s.

If you can play second base and hit .250, you are worth $10 million a year these days. There was a time when guys like that couldn't make the first cut.

My favorite quote of the week goes to South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham.

When defending U. N. Ambassador Susan Rice relating to Benghazi Obama said "If Senator McCain and Senator Graham want to go after somebody, they should go after me."

Graham: "Mr. President, don't think for one minute that I don't hold you ultimately responsible."

It's good to see a US Senator stand up and rebuke this imposter we have in the oval office.

We need more of this.

Not too late to cash in on the big apple bounce that everyone has been suggesting... it's only dropped eight bucks a pop today, that's better than yesterday or the day before..

I believe that once the bottom drops out from under apple the rest of the market will follow.

I sense the Obama magic is just starting to affect the market.

Please Jim.. don't make me ban you.. Just where the hell was Graham and McEvil before the election?- they knew what was going on for over a month..
big effin' deal bringing this up today.. they are just pandering to the Republicans..

Quit giving these assholes credit for calling the fire dept the day after the fire is out.. it's too damn late.

This is great:

It seems that every couple of days New Orleans loses one of its treasured ENTREPRENEURS.

This guy was shot to death on a street in New Orleans at age 25. In his obituary, the following information was printed:

Let’s get the players straight before we go on with this.
interpretation of data not verified but...

LARMONDO "FLAIR" ALLEN
His Companion: Kawanner Armstrong
His Sons : Christian Allen
Kwan Allen
Larmondo Allen, Jr.

His Daughters: Deidra Allen
Larmenshell Allen
Lamonshea Allen
Larmomdriel Allen
Larmerja Allen
Korevell Allen

AT AGE 25 - He had 9 Children.
(Could Kawanner Armstrong Possibly Be The Mother Of All Of His Kids?)

His Father: Burnell Thompson
His Mother: Esther Allen
His Stepfather: Bruce Gordy
His Brothers: Burnell Thompson
Edgar Thompson
Wil Willis
Danta Edwards
Reshe Edwards
Mattnell Allen
Burnell Allen
Lester Allen

His Sisters: Shannail Craig
Lekiksha Thompson
Gwendolyn Carter
Jessica Willis
Katina Gordy

Grandparents: Delors Allen
J.C. Allen
Anna Laura Thompson
Will Thompson

So, lets see now....

His Father, Burnell Thompson, fathered his brothers Burnell, Edgar and his sister Lekiksha. His Stepfather, Bruce Gordy, fathered his Sister Katina.
His Mother, Esther Allen, must have been unwed when she gave birth to: Larmondo, Mattnell, Burnell and Lester.
We don't know who fathered Wil Willis and Jessica Willis, or Dante and Reshe Edwards.
Lets hope sisters Shannail Craig and Gwendolyn Carter are married.

GOT THE ABOVE ALL STRAIGHT?
********************
NOW, THE REST OF THE STORY
He was 25 and had 3 sons and 6 daughters.
NINE welfare recipients collecting $950 each.....
That equals $8,550 a month !!! Now add Food Stamps,
Free medical, Free school lunches, and on and on

Do the math... $102,000+ /year.

Anyone out there, sittin' on their butt while reading this e-mail, making
A HUNDRED GRAND doing nothing?

Now that, to me, is a real Entrepreneur.
(ALSO, BECAUSE OF THEIR FATHERS DEATH, ALL OF THE KIDS WILL COLLECT
SOCIAL SECURITY UNTIL THEY ARE 18)
EVEN BETTER...IF "FLAIR'S"
THIRTEEN BROTHERS & SISTERS
FOLLOWED HIS ENTREPRENEURIAL
STRATEGY--THAT'S AN ADDITIONAL
$1.3 MILLION PER YEAR
BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE!
IF ALL THIRTEEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS CAN DUPLICATE HIS FEAT OF 9 WELFARE STRATEGISTS THAT BREEDS 117 NEW RECIPIENTS COLLECTING $100,000/YR!!...OR AN ADDITIONAL
$11,700,000PER YEAR...
&THAT'S ONE DAMN FAMILY
(And demands 100% the Taxes Paid by 1,000 avg. taxpayers)

And THAT is why this once great country is BANKRUPT!!

ANY QUESTIONS?

15 minutes to go, down 23.

My guy and I talked the other day and we decided to dump some stocks.

I'm glad I did it.

Did you see where Denny's has jumped on the part time worker bandwagon? They also are adding 5% to meals as an "Obama tax."

The list just keeps getting longer of companies changing strategy under this guy. If he gets his higher taxes on the rich through, the house of cards will really tumble. He better print up some more food stamps. There will be plenty of requests.

midnightsstaff said...

If you are serious about building a list of good companies to invest in, this is a day to do it- the ones who do better or at least less bad on a bad day overall are stronger companies by and large.
Costco was one today but it's a thin list...

But I figure this time there will be a true housecleaning..
In 2008 there were lots of ways to pad the fall thereby inflating a bubble, this time too many equities are leveraged out further than Leman bros was- and many have been just hanging on for four years.

This administration has done nothing at all to curb the excess or stem the abuses- so it stands to reason the bottom of this secular bear will extend until 2016 at the min.

But right now we still don't know what that black swan will be that pushes it off the table.
but it will happen that's for sure.

Yeah.. smart money is definitely going cash. until deflation turns to inflation things will be better for those who have something.. once that begins it's the Weimar Republic all over again and you will see why they call it "currency", because the moment it is printed it has value but begins to lose it immediately.

Uncle Ben's "currency"- also brought to you by the letters K and Y..

The DOW is down over 700 points since Obama got reelected. Guess the market's not thrilled with Obama.

More and more companies are either going to lay off people or make them part time employees. Small businesses won't have more than 50 employees so they don't have to pay for Obamacare.

When the economy crashes under Obama he won't have Bush to blame anymore, he owns it now.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike, Buzz.

This stuff going on now is why I said I was just going to sit back and be an interested observer of what Obama does when all this sh-t hits the fan.

Now, we are seeing the stock market go down as business does not trust the guy who says he is adamant about that idiotic tax hike for the wealthy.

What a self absorbed little man he is with his statement that "The rich can give more and not worry because they will still be wealthy." He acts as though it is an embarrassment to be successful.

If that happens, there will be less hiring and more companies folding because of him and his immense ego.

Look at what is happening now with obamacare. People are being cut in hours, let go, etc. because of it. Companies would rather pay the $2,000 fine than fork out $5-$7,000 grand for employee insurance.

I couldn't even watch the press conference yesterday. I was afraid I would throw something at the TV. I read a synopsis of it on Drudge today and it was absurd as you say, Buzz.

If you want to read a good book, pick up Ed Klein's "The Amateur". It's about Obama and very interesting. Klein has the guy figured out. Here is a recent comment from him about how Obama is still an amateur:

As usual, my liberal friends are conflating two different Obamas—the campaigner and the president—and in doing so, they are missing an important point. Obama has a political sense, but he lacks an executive sense. He is a happy warrior on the campaign trail, doing and saying whatever it takes to get elected, including lying shamelessly about his opponent. But when he leaves the hustings for the Oval Office, he becomes a different person, one who derives no joy from the cut and thrust of day-to-day politics and is inept in the arts of management and governance.

That describes O pretty good.

midnightsstaff said...

Well the unions won that twinkie strike, just had to sacrifice a few workers (18,000 or so) but by Thunder they have kept their word to the employees that they would do the same as Obama has done and look out for the little guy.

If it weren't for NAFTA, the closing of an entirely American institution the Ding Dong might be a good thing for America, after all we are experiencing a pandemic of diabetes especially in the South despite the four year effort of the FLOTUS to wean us from our Happy meals..

What NAFTA will do is allow Mexican knockoffs of the twinkee and ding dong to be imported to a thankful nation.

Actually the Dong could be imported from anywhere because the shelf life is measured in years not mere months.

I'm not saying that the ingredients will be identical.
In fact that creamy filling of what you don't want to think about now might be composed of components of lower food value, as tho there are any to the original.

Those non union Bobo drivers you see on the highways are going to take up the slack in the next few years- but the unions won and that's all that matters.

I've quit watching Monte Python lately, Drudge is more outrageous and funnier.

I think that's what Will Rogers was talking about.

"The DOW is down over 700 points since Obama got reelected. Guess the market's not thrilled with Obama."

The London Telegraph says that the EU is failing. Greece is screwed, Germany's in trouble, Grupo Santander in Spain is souring and all the corruption is falling apart. That's why the market's down. Plus that cow in Iowa peed on a flat rock and that didn't help the confidence of wimpy investors.

"More and more companies are either going to lay off people or make them part time employees. Small businesses won't have more than 50 employees so they don't have to pay for Obamacare."

Being a child, you probably don't realize that it's just a puny excuse by a weak minded employer. This is the United States of America and Presidents come and go and its the job of employers to provide health care, vacations, benefits to full time employees, but the current trend has been to cut their hours and screw Americans over. Part time employees don't get all those benefits and insurance. The weakest of the employers outsource to Communists and women breed with those punks to make more of that weak genetic strain of American. They should be sterilized to keep from making more of their kind.

Obamacare exists because the insurance companies refused to insur anyone with pre-existing conditions, including military veterans, and companies like mine were forced to close. Obamacare has finally given us disabled folks that chance at success again.

And if you think Welfare and Food Stamps is "entitlements" then try living on six hundred dollars a month and see how you like it! Otherwise, you don't know what you're talking about.

Insurance companies do not have the right to disqualify a disabled veteran for their medical problems. Those people haven't earned the right to tell me to piss off!

The fact is that if you've NEVER had bad credit, then you've never failed in business and might just be smuggling drugs for a living or helping the Commies to conquer America.

I wonder why Drudge can't find these stories?- but then he doesn't usually find out anything to do with oil disasters eh?

.."An offshore oil and natural gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico burst into flames on Friday, killing at least two people and leaving two missing, officials in Louisiana said.

The structure is owned by Black Elk, an energy firm in Houston, according to media reports on local television in Louisiana. Black Elk did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

An official from Jefferson Parish confirmed there were two deaths and two people missing. A Coast Guard official told cable news network CNN that at least six people had been aboard the platform. He said the Coast Guard has search and rescue helicopters en route to the stricken platform.

.."According to local media reports, the platform produced both oil and natural gas and is located around 17 miles offshore Grand Isle, Louisiana"

I sense another opportunity for the communists to seize another industry in the name of public safety- haha.
