THE ROLLING STONES STILL PERFORMING AFTER 50 YEARS!

I have always loved pop music.  As a kid in the 50s we had the standards from Eddie Fisher, Vic Damone, Joni James, Teresa Brewer, and a lot of other artists you never heard of.

In the mid 50s Elvis came along and achieved a popularity that no one in the genre had ever known.  His emergence lifted to fame a lot of rock stars like Bill Haley and His Comets, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard.

The Rolling Stones, c.1962.  (L-R)  Mick Jagger,
Charlie Watts, Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman
As big as these acts were, most of them slipped in the 1960s, including Elvis.  After he started making those terrible movies, his role as a top rock and roller was diminished.  It didn’t matter because with the arrival of The Beatles in late 1963, everyone took a back seat to them.

I was in my early 20s by then and still a big fan of rock tunes.  The Hit Parade was a big deal for popular music and many watched for the weekly Billboard list of top songs; especially the top ten.

In January of 1964, I was home on leave in Cincinnati and I remember driving through downtown when the DJ on WSAI radio said he had a tune from a new British group called The Beatles.  The song was “I Want to Hold Your Hand”.  Those of you old enough to remember 1964 know how that tune started The Beatles onslaught on American pop music.  It was a time when Elvis had to slide over a seat and make room for the British invasion.

Before that time, if someone made the Billboard Top Ten, they considered to be a true star.  When The Beatles arrived, it didn’t take long for them to take over the entire Top Ten!

The Stones today:  (L-R)  Watts,
Richards, Jagger, Ron Wood
Other British stars saw the opportunities in America as groups like The Dave Clark Five, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Herman and His Hermits, and Freddy and the Dreamers moved across the water to take advantage of the new American market.  Individual British artists like Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, and Sandi Shaw came over also as all their songs became hits via radio play and popular TV shows like “Shindig” and “Hullabaloo”.  Ed Sullivan showcased them also as he did Elvis when he arrived in the mid 1950s.

Most of those groups and individuals are long forgotten by now as their music didn’t hold up for future generations.  As big as The Beatles were, they disbanded in 1970 and since then, John Lennon and George Harrison have died.

By the late 60s, Americans got the hint had made headway in pop music with artists like Tommy James and the Shondells and others.

Any discussion of pop music would be incomplete without mentioning The Rolling Stones.  2012 marks their 50th year of performing.  Someone might say, “Yeah, but how many of them are from the original group?”  It’s a legitimate question as we have seen many popular groups lose their most important members through either retirement, death, or career changes.  With The Stones, three of the five original members (Charlie Watts, Keith Richards, and Mick Jagger ) are still with the group that started in 1962.  Founder Brian Jones died in 1969 at 27 and Bill Wyman retired at 57 in 1993.

Think about it:  Where were you in 1962?  I was 21 with three years left in the Air Force.  When I first heard the Stones they were more of a rhythm and blues band rather than rock.  I bought their album “12 x 5” in 1964 and loved their cover versions of some blues favorites like “Around and Around” and an all time fave, “Susie Q”.  (1:54)

Guitarist Keith Richards will be 69 in December.  A few years ago he was interviewed and one of the questions was, “How much longer do you want to play?”  His answer? “Until the chicks stop diggin’ me.”

Now, there is a stud!

Hi Jim!

I remember listening to WSAI in 1964 when the Beatles had just released "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"....I had heard the song being played, but wasn't sure about who had recorded it....The song was playing one day when my Dad had come home from work....so I mentioned that he should come hear the new Everly Bros song....he listened, then ol' too-loo baby" Ron Britain said....that is a new song from the Beatles....I was shocked!...I said to my Dad...Who are the Beatles???.....I had thought it was the Everly Bros.....Anyway.....while we are discussing WSAI....just have to mention that Dusty Rhodes came to our house one day.....soon after I decided to get into radio.....and the "rest" is history....lol Your Friend, Sonny

Thank God for British guitarists.. for some reason no other nation including this one even comes close to the cutting edge art form they have given the world.

If they could just stay off the horse.

There are two definite forms of music, one is the pop format that fits commercial stations, cuts never go past three or so minutes and they are heavy on the hook.

One needs to go to the internet feeds to find that cutting edge today, but that's the way it's always been - remember pirate radio?

LA was a sixties college radio hotbed as was most progressive areas, if you wanted to listen to groups like Quicksilver messenger service, Moby Grape, Mike Bloomfield or anything but the Beatles or Petula Clarke you had to go there..

I think the Rolling Stones were an gateway to hard rock that was only found on FM at that time.

What's funny is I can't stand Biscuit lips and their music is definitely suspect as BluehairRockers bubblegum as far as I am concerned- bottom line...I wouldn't go to one of their concerts for free, but that's my opinion and I'm sure others will disagree...

Growing up in the 60's I was never into the British thing. I listened to Elvis, the Beach Boys, Dean Martin and country and western music.

I'll say one thing for the Stones, 50 years of drugs, booze and broads must not be all bad.

Sonny,

Great rock memory there! We both remember when WSAI-AM ruled the pop music scene. Come to think of it, some of the Beatles early stuff did sound a bit like Don and Phil.

You rang a bell with Ron Britain. I had forgotten about him. As far as Dusty, He is still the Hamilton County Auditor. Check him out at:

http://www.hamiltoncountyauditor.org/

WCPO was big then too. I remember Run Down Ron Dunn spinning records from the Capri Pizza carry out on Reading Road.

Also Dick Coleman used to have "Yours For the Asking" on Saturday night on WCPO where you could call in requests.

WSAI also had a morning guy named Happy Holliday and a guy named Steve Kirk who I used to see over at UC a lot in Shipley's Restaurant on McMillan and Clifton.

When I got home late on weekend nights, I used to win 45 rpm records from WCPO. A guy named Garry Corry was the late night DJ and he would play a tune and say "Name it and claim it". Since I was about the only one in Cincy listening to him that late I won a lot of tunes.

I remember getting "Homeward Bound" by Simon and Garfunkel and "5 O'Clock World" by The Vogues that way.

I wish I could go back and re-live some of that stuff now (and be the age I was then).

Be sure to keep me up on your gigs. I know you are booked somewhere on Mid-October.

I guess you could chalk it up to people are just hard to kill, gotta give credit to good engineering.
they may look like hell warmed over after a few years of turning that liver into a wallet and ruining their arteries but they just keep a tickin'.

Radio in the early sixties in small town USA was frustrating to anyone wanting to be part of the cool people..
I lived it.

The local am station was a steady diet of Brooks Benton and his epic hit Lazy Crazy Daze of Summer played again and again or something equally exciting with a once a week radio program from noon to one on Saturdays.

Having a monopoly of an FCC license gave them control, but the high school kids did some letter writing and passed a petition and forced the man to his knees.

The caved in and launched a sop to progress, they called it... "The KDHI-stepper show"- I can still hear the intro music of "Tequila" they belted out... whooie!! wild stuff there for about thirty min of music- the rest Mode of Day and Tasty Freeze ads.
"let's go surfin' now" and anything by Dick Dale.. repeat next Saturday..

There wasn't even a country western station right there with one of the marine corps largest west coast bases for audience..
Brooks Benton and some big band music at night- or under the stars as they said.
After dark, KOMA gave us some relief, that and drive in movies.

You just can't tell me that a C/W station wouldn't have done pretty well right there next to a marine corps base, but small town politics also kept grocery stores and drug stores out of town for decades- town motto was... only thing better than competition is no competition.

Oddly enough Dick Dale still lives in 29 and is seen all over the place.. he and Hewell Howser a California PBS celebrity are still local minor color.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

The Stones are definitely "stoners". In fact, Richards once said that the only time he almost died from drugs was when someone slipped some strychnine into his dope! LOL

He has also survied some terrible accidents like falling off stages and once was pretty much electrocuted. He has 9 lives i think.

Brian Jones got heavy into drugs. He was the group's founder but eventually Jagger and Richards wrested that from him. Supposedly, he got heavy into drugs and fell into his swimming pool and drowned.

When the Brits came over, it was quite incredible. Music had gotten a bit ho-hum here with artists like Leslie Gore, Annette, and other whire milk male and female performers.

Suddenly, the Beatles showed up and it all turned upside down. I remember the girls screaming and crying in Ed Sullivan's audience.

I never missed shindig. They had the best of the Brits. Hullabaloo was a bit too lightweight as guys like Andy Williams would show up.

That music gave the FM stations a chance to lose the elevator music. There were still good AM stations I listened to in rural Missouri like KAAY Little Rock, WLS in Chicago, and of course the great KOMA in Oklahoma.

I remember when the Beatles came to KC in '64 and it rained like hell at the ball park where they played. Tickets were $5!

Fun days for sure.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

I'll say one thing for the Stones, 50 years of drugs, booze and broads must not be all bad.

Can you imagine the stories those guys could tell if they have any memory left?

I remember one rock star who said he would love to write a book about his life but he can't think of anything.

50 years of plenty of money, plenty of girls, plenty of beer, and living first class. Damn, I knew I should have taken those guitar lessons!

Did you like Conway Twitty?

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

A quick correction: "Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy, Days of Summer" was by Nat "King" Cole, not Brook Benton.

Local small tewn radio was really bad. Near the base in Missouri was KDRO radio in Sedalia and KOKO in Warrensburg.

Both those stations had stuff like local high school football games, a community bulletin board, and of course, the day's hospital report of admittances and discharges. (Yawn)

"Tequila" by The Champos and Dick Dale and the Deltones. Great stuff! Are you sure they missed "Cherry Pink and Apple blossom White" by Perez Prado?

Actually Dick could play some good surf stuff and, as you say, he is still playing that slashing guitar.

I drove all night across Oklahoma in August of '59 and they played great songs all night on KOMA. I think they played "What's I Say" (Parts 1 and 2) the most. I couldn't get enough of Ray Charles.

Unfortunately, "Tan Shoes and Pink Shoe Laces" by Dody Stevens was also played a LOT!

Hi Jim,

I saw these guys on "60 Minutes" not too long ago, and even they thought at least half opf thm would be six feet under now!

Wow!!

midnightsstaff said...

sorry pal but Brooks Benton was the cover they were playing.. I bet I heard it five thousand times.. haha. yeah I know that NKC did the original.. but this was small town and that was the record they had..

Nothing better than driving across the Panhandle plains on a sultry evening, lightening in the distance with the window down listening to KOMA or that station in Del Rio..
Wolfman Jack was big.

Kevin MacMichael was one of those who flamed out early, he died in 2002 of lung cancer- 51 years old..
chalk another one up for Canadian health care.

He was one of the best guitarist I have ever heard.. mike might not want to watch his videos tho.. haha MTV made sure the optics got more outrageous every song..

MTV might be the start of all our problems, what do you think?

well back to the game.. four turnovers?

Mike slater said...

Jim, no I never cared for Conway Twitty or Loretta Lynn. I was more into singers that had great voices like Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline and Marty Robbins.

The one singer I do listen to that doesn't have a great voice but is unique in a way is Willie Nelson.

I don't listen to modern country and western music but there is a station out of Wickenburg on 96.3 FM that plays the old songs.

midnightsstaff said...

You probably like Don Williams and Merle too.

I saw Asleep at the Wheel in Landers once, what a show those guys put on.. lots of western swing and could cover almost anything- real musicians.

You are right about pre MTV age country music and what is going on now, maybe pop country is what this is, It's not all bad but we only have limited time, why listen to what we don't like?
..and now with digital the world is our oyster..

For instance there is a nice Persian station I listen to sometimes on i-tunes, radio Radio Javan- with the video feed sometimes you get a bellydancer- there's something about finger cymbals and funny stringed instruments.

I better enjoy it until that pre emptive EMP bomb over Tehran signals the start of WWIII, in fact I should leave it on so I will know by when it goes dark that the time has come, probably even before jugears finds out, sort of a low tech approach to surveillance ... give it a listen... lol.

whoops time to go back and see if Fox lit a fire.

Yeah, those were the days. Count yourself lucky that you do not have to listen to me singing it because now I have the song stuck in my head ... Dang class warfare! Was Tennessee Ernie Ford really a commie?

I was one in 1962. I do remember The Beatles singing "I Want to Hold Your Hand" on Ed Sullivan though. It was probably the first pop song I walked around singing for weeks. My aunt loved The Beatles & she loved me singing that song.

They are amazing. 50 years of that rock and roll lifestyle seems incredible and they are still at it.

Brian Jones would probably still be with them if he hadn't fallen into that swimming pool.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

You must be drinking that green PBR again. Brook Benton never sang that song; that was strictly from Nat "King" Cole. "Those days of soda and pretzels and beer."

I've searched the internet and it agrees with me. However, if you can produce documented evidence of Benton's recording certified by Funk and Wagnalls, I will offer the same response Detective Nick Carter used: "If I'm wrong, I'll apologize."

I thought it would be a good game with Peyton but I turned it off at 27-7. I see they got within 27-21 but it still was a loss. Too many interceptions and those sub refs stink.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

You named three good ones with Reeves, Cline, and Robbins.

Marty was even a Glendale guy.

Jim McAllister said...

CJ,

What are you drinking? Weren't you 2 in 1962?

"I Want to Hold Your hand" was a great song and shows the difference in that generation and now. Imagine: the Beatles just wanted to hold your hand. Pretty innocent.

midnightsstaff said...

Evidently the guy at the radio station was spoofing or just didn't know either... but that's what he was saying... haha, all these years and I finally find out we were all having our leg pulled
well, he probably slept in a cot next to the mike because there was only one on air personality.. the owner- that alone would drive you nuts.

Middy,

Maybe he was joking since Benton usually sang pretty sedate stuff but so did Nat.

I always thought Nat must have done that song for the money. It just wasn't his style. I was used to him doing stuff like "Too Young", "Unforgettable", and "Nature Boy". He was a hell of a piano player too with the Nat "King" Cole Trio.

I was a Brook Benton fan and still have two 33 1/3 albums that my girlfriend in 1960 bought for me.

I wonder what happened to her. She seemed so great at the time. lol

Jim McAllister said...

Jim, he was offended that Middy called him a barking dog, he said he was done with your blog.

Wasn't it 1964 not 62 that the Beatles first appeared on the Sullivan show?
I liked the Stones better than the Beatles, but I liked the harder rock bands like the Animals and the Kinks the best.

Jim McAllister said...

Steve,

1964 is correct on The Beatles being on Ed Sullivan. I think it was in February.

As I mentioned above, I first heard "I Want to Hold Your Hand" in January of '64 while in Cincy. That was the first time I ever heard of them.

In 1962 they were probably still playing at "The Cave" in Liverpool as The Quarrymen with no idea what the future held.

It was 1964 when the British Invasion really hit. I never heard of any of those groups or single artists before then.

When I think of big hits in the 60-63 era I remember stuff like "Sherry" and "Big Girls Don't Cry" from the 4 Seasons, "Big Bad John", "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and the "Peppermint Twist".

I was TDY to Germany from June '63 to Oct. '63 and for some reason the first hit song I remember when I got back was "Deep Purple" by Nino Tempo and April Stevens who were, by the way, from Phoenix.

When the British arrived in '64 they put a lot of those people like above plus Leslie Gore and Little Peggy March out of work.

We closed as usual at 6PM, and somehow we young guys convinced our manager to let us stay late and watch one of the store's 17" black and white TV sets (sets that the store had on a rack up front and rented for $1.99 per day). (They also had a free vacuum tube tester, and $2.99 a day carpet shampooers). But don't go thinking the 60's was awash with cutting edge hits.....The wonderful 60's also had other 'hits' like: (The Jolly Green Giant),(Leader Of The Laundromat),(Surfin Bird),(Papa Um-Mau-Mau), and the,(obviously) unforgettable iconic HIT! ~~~Yummy-Yummy-Yummy~~I Got LOVE~In My Tummy~~~(((((PEACE-OUT)))

Geez, Middy, get a grip on reality here. I was just asserting myself & teasing Jim a bit. I mean every man on earth should know not to correct a woman's age. Over estimate it either. The only thing worse is the weight issue. But I KNOW how I handled it & I handled it very well.

I can dish it out? When is the last time that I published any of your personal info that you didn't put out there yourself? So I have teased you old guys about being old sometimes...It is not like I haven't said that I am old occasionally too. Besides, like I told Mike the other day, I am using "old guys" as a term of endearment ... Although it is true that I will always be younger than you!

Of course, I know why you see whiners everywhere. You can only see what you know ... You are probably the only old guy in the world that whines so much about seeing whiners. You are like that kid in "The Sixth Sense" you sure are: Middy says, "I seeeeee whiiiinyyy people," & both are fiction.

Jim,Schiltz and Falstaff remind me of the good old days. It was good beer and cheap too. We used to have a beer here that was brewed in Arizona called A-1 that wasn't bad.

I suppose you heard about the Az Republic is charging people to be on their web pages. Today was my last day because they want $10 a month to subscribe. I not going to pay to read the nonsense of the likes of Laurie Roberts, Ed Montini and the illegal lover Linda Valdez. The only ones that will sign up are liberals that believe the crap those people spew.

I've been reading the Republic since 1965 and it used to be a good newspaper until Gannett bought it but now it's just a liberal rag.

Can't wait for them to go the way of the Tucson Citizen paper and go out of business.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

I did a couple of blogs about A-1 beer a few years ago on azcentral. I didn't transfer them over to this blog so they are gone now.

I had talked to a guy who owned a chain of liquor stores who had bought the brand and was going to start brewing it but that was the last I heard of it.

However, I have the following blog I did in 2009 about Phoenix with a photo of the A-1 beer ladies softball team.

http://jmcallister.blogspot.com/search?q=a-1+beer

In the Southwest I remember brands like Lucky Lager ("It's Lucky if you live in Arizona"), Bugermeister (Pass me a Burgie!)and Olympia.

The thing that killed A-1 was that Budweiser came in and cut their price to all the bars selling draft beer and ran them out. Coors hurt them too when they expanded out of Colorado.

I was always a Schlitz man when I was stationed in Missouri. Falstaff was big there too as was Hamm's and Bud.

I never see Hamm's anymore and Falstaff folded. I think Schlitz is still brewed on a limited basis and not much of a factor anymore. Bud is way down in sales too for their regular beer as the light has taken over the last I heard.

As for me, I usually drink Corona. I hope it's not true that their employees pee in it!

I work both puzzles every day but have noticed over the years that the Friday and Saturday ones can be harder. The Sunday puzzles are a bitch.

Went down to the Sun City Republican headquarters today and picked up a Romney for president sign to put in the yard. While I was there I talked to a very nice black woman that worked there. She has no use for Obama. Nice to see that all blacks aren't brainwashed.

Glad to see you are a fellow crossword puzzle guy. Barb and I always enjoy them.

Whenever we nail a perfect L.A. or N.Y. puzzle, we feel like we have really done something. Some of that stuff is really off the wall and their puzzles are twice the length of the Uniteds.

I agree, the weekend puzzles are harder. The United puzzles during the week have a lot of repetition of the same words or expressions. I don't think I would ever have known that an "ogee" is a curved piece of moulding without them hammering it into me so much!

He also said that he is only one part of govt. and can't do everything. With his executive orders it looks like he is trying to do everything to me. He just can't admit he is a failure.

Here is a short clip Middy sent to me from Middy. He and I love Rick Santelli and this tape shows why. It's about 3 minutes.

Jim, I started doing crossword puzzles over 30 years ago because I was a terrible when it came to spelling. Doing those crosswords really helped improve my spelling.

Having done them so long I learned a long time ago what an ogee moulding was. I've found over the years that the key to crosswords are trying to figure out what they want. For instance they will ask what the capital of some country is. They could mean the capital city or the currency of the country.

Obama is a total failure and only a moron or a liberal, sorry for repeating myself, wouldn't see it.

With our attention elsewhere the rule of law is being dissembled right in full view.

I realize no one cares about these somewhat arcane issues, but this is how we lose a nation.

It's through our inattention to the Parliament of Whores they steal our birthright and corrupt our laws.

“Congress: 536 commoditized temple monkeys pawing through the ruins of America in search of bribes, the District of Corruption works like a vending machine.
..you put coins in the slot, select your law, and the desired legislation slides out."

Neither Schweitkirt nor Quayle are my representatives but I would be all over them if either one of them were.

But then I live in a civilized district and don't usually have to jack my boys up..

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

No need to worry about Quayle anymore. Because of redistricting Quayle and Schweikert had too run against each other in the primary and Sschweikert won.

At least one good decision politically this week: Judge Susan Bolton decided that it is OK for the cops to check ID for citizenship if they stop someone for a traffic violation or whatever.

Naturally, the next day brought all the protesters out in force. It's hard to believe those goddam people. They think we owe them something! Screw 'em, I hope Joe locks them all up and throws away the key.

Jim McAllister said...

Absolutely, I tell Barb to look at a definition and think of any possibility where the word could be used.

Ironic, passing a reasonable law brings out the rats in mass to protest, but a bill like this that guarantees screwing every taxpayer in America no one even knows about.

You are exactly right steve, right now the American Left looks very much like 1930's German Socialism, and if the Amateur wins I can guarantee you America will eventually end up looking like 1945 Germany.

Women always know me best. That's why I prefer them ... and for other reasons too.

Rolling Stones are blues based. I got a photo of Keith Richards up on my wall with what some say is a 1975 telecaster, but I have a copy of it in a Peavey and it's a 1952 Fender Hot Rod Telecaster. Peavey copied it down to the wood and I had Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups; one humbucker and one single pickup in the ashtray bridge.

Been busy working on "The Bunker" as everyone calls it. Some have found caves. Others are digging in to build cellars hidden in the hills.

Obama, Romney and the Muslims have everyone scared of the economy collapsing, an attack, food shortages or just bad weather.

Got work to get done on the bunker. Letting some bills go to get it done before November. I don't trust anyone anymore, except military veterans.

Rick "Barking Dog" Kepple said...

Expert economists are predicting the REAL collapse in 2013. The EXPERTS say there is going to be 50 percent unemployment by next year, and a 90 percent stock market drop.

Why are the experts telling us this now? Aren't they supposed to be telling us how people are shopping for Christmas early and all that happy BS? What strategic advantage is there in panicking people? Unless it's just too late and they want people to genuinely prepare. More fear mongering, but what is it that they expect to accomplish by it?

And why is Romney repeating the same words that Middy used? The 47 percent crap, I mean. The rich should be panicking, not bragging. It logically means that there is about 30 percent unemployment.

Jim, my son's a policeman in the city of El Mirage and we talked about the effect of the SB1070 ruling.El Mirage has a high population of Hispanics, some legal some not. So tomorrow when he goes back to work and happens to stop a car full of Hispanics for a traffic violation he'll have to be very careful he doesn't get charged with racial profiling.

We can all thank the federal government for the illegal problem.

Judge Bolton had no choice, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that part of SB 1070 was constitutional. The problem is the Hispanics will claim it's racial profiling.

Can't wait for Sheriff Joe to be reelected and listen to all the liberal at the Republic to start whining.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

DingleBarry? I love that; great play on words.

The flag thing is silly just like DingleBarry. What else can we expect from the biggest imposter in American history?

Now, he is saying that Fast and Furious was Bush's fault! Even left wing ABC news said "NO it's not!"

Did you see where they are investigating that guy who hung the empty chair from his house? LOL

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

Sounds like you will be safe in that bunker when they drop the big one. Good idea to build that with the world conditions of today.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

I am really tired of all these damn illegals parading around the streets talking about how mistreated they are.

One girl said she felt "so good" sitting in the street blocking traffic in protest of US immigration laws.

I hope none of them try to block me. I'm so sick of this crap I wouldn't trust myself.

The good news is that it may get Romney a few more votes from the sympathizers since it is the US policy over the last three years they are bitching about along with the "papers please" decision.

Joe better buy some more tents for these clowns or maybe we should tell them we will give them free guns and Ammo if they go back to Mexico and try to overthrow the regime that makes them want to come here so bad.

Rick "Barking Dog" Kepple said...

"We can all thank the federal government for the illegal problem."

Well I'm so glad you never said it is Obama's fault for all the illegal immigrants. Is it possible that someone actually reads history? It's been several presidents that have encouraged that problem.

"Sounds like you will be safe in that bunker when they drop the big one."

Most of my friends are civilians and I doubt they've ever seen a real live bunker. I've been in a real one in the Army. Mine is a little thing and not meant for "the big one."

As per the Rolling Stones playing for 50 years, it's only because they don't want to quit and be door greeters at Walmart. Who can blame them? And besides, I rarely listen to music anymore. I barely play the guitar and I hardly hang out with Dell Mack. I am completely disenchanted with the music industry. I'm definitely not going to any concerts. What's the point? Anything any musician would say to me would be a lie to get me to buy their music.

I found a parody about Jesus Christ on Youtube and I Facebooked it, asking the question that if Christians killed an American ambassador, would the Obama Administration apologize to Christianity for that crappy movie clip? I like the Clintons, but I just can't believe that the Administration would "denigrate a great religion and promote rage," [quote from Madam Clinton concerning Islam] when DHS wrote that Christian military veterans might be potential terrorists.

If Obama wins this time the country will be sick of his liberal nonsense by 2016 and that will kill Hillary as she has basically his philosophy.

Yep, she should have taken her shot this year as Obama is being proven the weakling he is. She will be 69 in 2016 and will never win.

The Stones are amazing. Nobody thought the British Invasion would last more than a year much less have a group like the Stones still popular 50 years later.

It's hard to keep up with the regulatory nightmare this administration has created, so I have copied a list of actions recently deemed suspect by the satanic administration we now have in office.

http://www.zerohedge.com/contributed/2012-09-21/take-test-see-if-you-might-be-considered-%E2%80%9Cpotential-terrorist%E2%80%9D-government-off

There have been so many anti-terrorism laws passed since 9/11 that it is hard to keep up on what kinds of things might get one on a “list” of suspected bad guys.

We’ve prepared this quick checklist so you can see if you might be doing something which might get hassled.

The following actions may get an American citizen living on U.S. soil labeled as a “suspected terrorist” today:

Speaking out against government policies
Protesting anything
Questioning war (even though war reduces our national security; and see this)
Criticizing the government’s targeting of innocent civilians with drones (although killing innocent civilians with drones is one of the main things which increases terrorism. And see this)
Asking questions about pollution (even at a public Congressional hearing?)
Paying cash at an Internet cafe
Asking questions about Wall Street shenanigans
Holding gold
Creating alternative currencies
Stocking up on more than 7 days of food (even though all Mormons are taught to stockpile food, and most Hawaiians store up on extra food)
Having bumper stickers saying things like “Know Your Rights Or Lose Them”
Investigating factory farming
Infringing a copyright
Taking pictures or videos
Talking to police officers
Wearing a hoodie
Driving a van
Writing on a piece of paper
(Not having a Facebook account may soon be added)
Holding the following beliefs may also be considered grounds for suspected terrorism:

Valuing online privacy
Supporting Ron Paul or being a libertarian
Liking the Founding Fathers
Being a Christian
Being anti-tax, anti-regulation or for the gold standard
Being “reverent of individual liberty”
Being “anti-nuclear”
“Believe in conspiracy theories”
“A belief that one’s personal and/or national “way of life” is under attack”
“Impose strict religious tenets or laws on society (fundamentalists)”
“Insert religion into the political sphere”
“Those who seek to politicize religion”
“Supported political movements for autonomy”
Being “anti-abortion”
Being “anti-Catholic”
Being “anti-global”
“Suspicious of centralized federal authority”
“Fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation)”
“A belief in the need to be prepared for an attack either by participating in … survivalism”
Opposing genetically engineered food
Opposing surveillance
Many Americans assume that only “bad people” have to worry about draconian anti-terror laws.

But as the above lists show, this isn’t true.

When even Supreme Court Justices and congressmen worry that we are drifting into dictatorship, we should all be concerned.

I've never seen such anger in this country as now and if the big city minorities think they have the upper hand, I will show them some guys from the backwoods of Kentucky, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Idaho, etc. that will make them flinch in a hurry.

Obama wanted class warfare and he has it. I like our side's chances.

That piece you sent me about Fcebook is interesting. So, now I am a "suspicious" character just because I don't have a page on Facebook. That's hilarious; how about it's because I don't have the time or desire to do anything on the Internet but this goddam blog?

No wonder all of us have to walk around armed all the time. We're liable to get shot at for not having Facebook. LOL

I saw a great bumper sticker today: "Obama makes me want to throw up in my mouth."

I guess that says it all.

I don't mind the fact that people burn the American flag, I just wish they had the good manners to wrap themselves in the flag before they light it.

Glad the SB1070 "papers please" is in effect but it's going to a nightmare for cops like my son. I see in the Republic today where a Phoenix cop stopped a car for a moving violation. When he asked for a drivers license the driver didn't have one but showed the cop a Mexican passport. The cop suspected the driver and the others in the car were illegals and called ICE. They were all detained. Of course they all claimed they were racially profiled. Watch for a lawsuit any day now.

A 38cal pistol is nice but you can only have what 5 or 6 rounds in it? You need to upgrade your arsenal to include a nice semi-auto in 9MM or 40cal.

I have a Ruger in 9mm with two 15 round magazines and a 380cal with two 6 round magazines. I pays to be careful.

http://www.george-orwell.org/1984/19.html

.."He came closer to the bed. 'For ever!' he repeated. 'And now let us get back to the question of "how" and "why". You understand well enough how the Party maintains itself in power. Now tell me why we cling to power. What is our motive? Why should we want power? Go on, speak,' he added as Winston remained silent.

Nevertheless Winston did not speak for another moment or two. A feeling of weariness had overwhelmed him. The faint, mad gleam of enthusiasm had come back into O'Brien's face. He knew in advance what O'Brien would say.
That the Party did not seek power for its own ends, but only for the good of the majority, That it sought power because men in the mass were frail cowardly creatures who could not endure liberty or face the truth, and must be ruled over and systematically deceived by others who were stronger than themselves.
That the choice for mankind lay between freedom and happiness, and that, for the great bulk of mankind, happiness was better, That the party was the eternal guardian of the weak, a dedicated sect doing evil that good might come, sacrificing its own happiness to that of others.

The terrible thing, thought Winston, the terrible thing was that when O'Brien said this he would believe it.
You could see it in his face. O'Brien knew everything. A thousand times better than Winston he knew what the world was really like, in what degradation the mass of human beings lived and by what lies and barbarities the Party kept them there. He had understood it all, weighed it all, and it made no difference: all was justified by the ultimate purpose.

What can you do, thought Winston, against the lunatic who is more intelligent than yourself, who gives your arguments a fair hearing and then simply persists in his lunacy?

'You are ruling over us for our own good,' he said feebly. 'You believe that human beings are not fit to govern themselves, and therefore --'

He started and almost cried out. A pang of pain had shot through his body. O'Brien had pushed the lever of the dial up to thirty-five"

as I have said numerous time, 1984 was a documentary- this stuff is going on today..
Liberty or Tyranny folks..
