DAY DREAMING ON A SATURDAY MORNING.......

Odds and ends…..This morning’s Real Clear Politics poll shows Obama’s approval at 47.8% and disapproval of 47.1%.  That’s a 0.7 difference in his favor; not very good but why should it be?.....Here is a great idea that never made it to reality probably because no one has to parallel park anymore.

I remember having to parallel park for my driver’s test when I was 16 and I always took pride in being good at it.  A co-worker once told me they thought I could parallel park in a space smaller than a car.  It’s a lost art just like shifting the gears of “three on a tree.”

Does anyone remember one speed vacuum windshield wipers that stopped when you hit the gas?  How about the high beam headlight button on the floor or the old Chevys with the vacuum stick shift?  Anyone ever fixed a flat in an old time tube tire?  Do I dare mention two piece windshields?......In a recent column on the AZ Republic’s  Politics blog I mentioned how I don’t think a mayor is needed in the council-manager form of city government and I cited Phoenix mayor Greg Stanton as a good example.  He keeps reinforcing what I said about him a few weeks ago:  He is just a glorified ribbon cutter for new supermarkets. The city manager runs the show while Stanton lies during his campaign about removing the tax on food in Phoenix.  That’s right; a tax on FOOD during hard times!  Robert Robb said it all in a recent column in the Republic where he mentioned there were ways such as cutting out big raises to city employees which could have canceled the food tax.   However, Stanton seems more interested in endorsing a silly buyback of guns which is nothing but a political stunt.

Charles Barkley; he is never at a loss
for words.
Speaking of gun buybacks, it’s a drop in the bucket but Obama has to love it as it will be fewer guns for the feds to pick up when Obama decides to make all of us turn in our guns.  Politicians like Stanton and others are like followers of the Pied Piper that are being led into the river……I love the candid attitude of Charles Barkley and he showed it this week on a broadcast during the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Doug Gottlieb, an ex-player and a white guy, was on a panel including Barkley and three other black guys when Gottlieb joked that he was there “to bring diversity to the set; kind of the white man’s perspective.”   Wow! The liberal Twitter freaks went crazy blasting Gottlieb for his joking statement.  Barkley had the best reply of anyone to those no-life, over sensitive losers:   "I want to say something about Doug Gottlieb,” Barkley said. “He made a joke earlier tonight and people are going crazy. All those idiots on Twitter, which I would never ever do, all you people at home who have got no life and are talking bad about Doug Gottlieb, get a life. It’s over with. It’s no big deal.”

Go Charles!  You can always count on Barkley to express his feelings and he is right on this one.

Jimmy, a famous drummer called this morning and I forgot that it was on speaker phone, so Dale heard the conversation. It was cool.

Jimmy, are you serious about Obama's numbers? Congress has approval ratings of about 15 percent! Maybe it's gone up to 17 percent approval rating by now. They should all be demoted. At least take pay cuts.

I emember the tube in the tire coming out through a gash in the sidewall.

Fox hunting for the first time ever hunting. The good ol' days.

I should take a look at Middy's rifle. I could probably fix it. Dremel tools do all sorts of stuff.

Happy Easter, everyone.

Life is real. Sometimes doesn't make sense, but life is definitely real.

Hi Jim, as I recall my 49 Ford had a two piece windshield, and yes, I learned fixing tube type flats in auto shop, lots of work to not pinch the tube, or mis-align the air nipple(also learned other obsolete things, like sand blasting spark plugs which was necessary back when gas was half lead)

Those vacuum windshield wipers were really dangerous, just as the need for better wiping was needed (stomping the gas to pull out and pass a bus) their ability to function stopped completely! of course, they came back on strong, the minute you lifted off the gas, also worth noting that by that time, you (hopefully) had completed the passing and no longer had critical need for maximum visibility.

If you watch that Caddy video at :53, the nerf bar on that one ton chrome bumper trims the bushes and misses taking the siding off around the garage door by less than a whisker!..... I would love to see the PTO mechanism that drove that spare, can't believe it never became a standard feature on some line?

Jim, I had to do parallel parking to get my license at 16 also. Piece of cake. About the only place we had to do it was downtown Phoenix.

I remember the high beam button on the floor. All of my cars and trucks in the 70's had them. Remember when you put the key into the dash instead of the steering column to start the car?

I also remember my uncle had a 1956 Chevy pickup truck where you put the key in but it had a button on the floor you hit to start it. It also had an oil bath air cleaner. Tell that to kids today and they have no clue.

Stanton is just a typical politician. They tell you what you want to hear to get elected and after that they do what they want.

His gun buyback program is just a liberal feel good deal.

Hey Jim,

I sure do remember the foot bright-lights floor button on my 1971 Maverick and 1973 Mustang! Now - do you remember the old front side windows that opened up? Had them on our '66 Pontiac Tempest (huge beast with no power steering that I learned to drive on often up in Mass. on the Mohawk Trail, but first tries were in an empty Tops parking lot outside of Hartford on Sundays - the stores were still blue-lawed back then).

Rick,

Was it Gene Krupa? Cozy Cole? Sandy Nelson?

I think Nelson was missing a leg but still had some big hits in the late '50s early 60s.

For bongo drums, I'd take Preston Epps.

Rick,

Obama's numbers are poor for a president especially one who just got RE elected.

Congresses number are typical. Nobody likes them.

proud,

When the '49 Ford came out I was 8 and I thought it was the sleekest thing I ever saw. Henry died in '48 and I doubt if he had much to do with the '49 as he likes that leaf spring across the back as opposed to the two smaller leaf springs on the '49.

Ford really had the styling advantage to the '49 Chevy which was still pretty boxy.

You're right on the tube pinching and lining up the valve stem. It was also a good idea to check the inner side of the tire and be sure a shard wasn't still there which would just flatten the tire again. I got caught on that once on my '54 Ford.

I has forgotten about sand blasting the plugs. I remember seeing that done a lot.

Not only would the wipers stop dead when you needed them the most, if the rain became a slow drizzle, they would still be going at the same one speed. Electric wipers with different speeds were a great invention.

That'51 Caddy sure was a boat but was really smooth. That was a great invention but i never saw a car with the spare that came down like that. It probably was really expensive.

I imagine a lot of people today would be clueless about parallel parking. In those days I was really proud of it.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

I remember the dash key and also when cars had the ignition key and a starter button on the dash.

In those days, nobody locked their cars and in summer would park and leave the windows open. My buddies and I used to go down the street, reach in the window, and push the starter button to make the car lurch. Luckily no one ever caught us!

We had a '40 Buick that started by turning on the ignition and pressing down on the gas to engage the starter. Unfortunately, sometimes the starter would kick in while driving so my dad had a starter button installed.

That old Buick also had a hand choke and a throttle which was an old time version of cruise control.

The hand choke was nice on cold days; better than an automatic choke. I learned to drive on that car at age eleven. I had to look through the steering wheel! It had a couple of spare tire mounts on the front fenders.

Jim McAllister said...

Glo,

I had forgotten about the little windows on the front door. We called them "cozy wings". You could aim them at yourself on hot days and smokers liked them to let their smoke out.

I think the actual name of those windows from the manufacturer was "front door ventipane." I liked cozy wing better! More familiar sounding.

Nobody had air conditioning in their cars then so we always rode with the windows down in the summer. Terms like 4/70 air conditioning were common which meant "4 windows open and 70 miles per hour."

Good old blue laws. When I first moved to Kansas City with Barb in 1969 the Missouri side of the state line was shut tight on Sunday while Kansas had everything open and was doing a land office business.

Missouri finally took a hint and opened too.

Anyone have a Bug with no gas gauge- instead a switch that gave you another gallon to run on while looking for a station?

Yeah the modern auto has a lot of foreign features mainly because they are built in foreign countries.
..explains the metric bolts as well.

Things have changed- no more fender skirts, no more 6 volt starting systems, no more pesky carburetors to give you float and flooding problems or need to be reset at high altitudes, no more points and plugs to attend to, no more tune ups at the local gas station or checking your tire pressure and filling the tank, no more choosing between Hancock standard grade gas and hi octane gas grades, no more am radio, no more Saturday night dates cruising the drag in LA on Hawthorne blvd..

..no more working on your own vehicle.

All I want to do sometimes is hop in my 1962 Willoghby and head down to the A&W for a burger and big Root beer listening to Wolfman Jack along with everyone else.

Ha.. I thought this was Easter for about two hours this morning...
...these aren't memories- it's early Alzheimer's.

midnightsstaff said...

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

I had a '60 Volkswagen that I bought while in the Air Force in an attempt to get an economical car thus increasing my chances to have more money to drink more beer.

It was dependable enough and had the gas tank switch you mentioned. It also had a heater that had no chance to heat that car during Missouri winters. It had no radio so I used my transistor which was not acceptable in any way. In other words, although it was economical, it had no comforts and after a year and a half I traded it in 1964 for my '61 Bel Air Chevy.

I thought I was in a new Cadillac with that Chevy. It ran great, had great heat and music, and drove smooth as silk with that 283 V8 and automatic.

I learned a valuable lesson: Go for comfort and the hell with economy.

Standard gas station talk in those days: I need some points, plugs, and condenser and please change the oil and put Havoline in with a Fram filter.

midnightsstaff said...

It truly was a "car for the people"- that's the contempt our betters seem to have for us, BMW's on my card for them and a VW with donkey ear turn signals for the rest of us peasants.
..enjoy the heating system and that great six volt starter, pray before using- (there is a reason for that St.Christopher hanging on the rear view mirror)..

I like my modern world Jimmy- I nearly had another WM a while ago, I dug out my old cappuccino machine, ground some good Costa Rica Tarrazo beans and made the best cup of "Afternoon Joe" imaginable.

It's the little things in life, getting to work in the garden, enjoying a nice afternoon sunset listening to Paul Jove- Ress-t-onate and a comfortable cup.. but there I go rambling on and on..

..sounding like a cleaned up version of Rick lately.

Jim, remember when the Ford trucks in the 50's had the battery under the floorboard in the cab?

We had a 77 corvette where the battery was behind the drivers seat. It was a pain in the ass if you needed a jump start.

I think it's a wind wing.. up in the corner of the front roll ups, on a pivot.

I had an elderly Desoto with a nice air scoop right in the middle of the firewall that you could raise to get a breeze on the feet, of course it was a hundred and ten, but somehow helped.

Genuine mohair seats and headliner, a dashboard that could crack a skull- seat belts were only for flying and wide white walls- it just oozed class.
..not first class but class- sort of a step up from my Studebaker Commander.

I managed to scrounge up a air cooler that rolled up in the passenger side window, the faster you went the better it worked, what a concept!

..sorry but I like the air conditioner in the Toyota a lot better.

Middy, I live in the Ozarks where if you ask a woman out, chances are that her girlfriend won't like it. I just get tired of the 'get a dog' jokes.

Middy, bring that Nylon 66 around and I'll see if I can fix it for you. It's probably the feed ramps just need polished.

Yes Jimmy, I'm trying to be nice to Middy.

Jimmy, we should do a camping trip. Bring Barb and Middy. And those other camping and fishing enthusiasts. Bring SN too and I'll teach her how to fish.

A three day license is only about fifteen bucks in Missouri.

I'm thinking that maybe I might try camping this year. Feeling a bit more healthier and looking at Lana, cut up like she is, I figure might as well enjoy life while I can.

So how about it? Pax, Middy?

Unknown said...

So Middy, bring your rifle to Missouri. I'll fix it for you, or take it to a shop and Dan's pretty good. It's probably a combination of the feed ramp needing polishing and maybe a weakened spring.

I know you guys will never go to Missouri. It's quite natural, since we all have priorities in our lives and then one day, a doctor says changes have to be made and you're on your way out the door.

Or maybe you can just feel that something is wrong and doctors don't know, but you do. You can feel it. Then the blood tests show you are right.

And if there is no quality of life, then why does it matter?

Like one of SN' fans said, "be sure to spread plastic down first." They're such nice people.

The only reason that I'd build a music and video studio is to hang out with rock stars. I want very little to do with so many other people.

Anyway, I'm gonna go into town with a friend who always wants to hang around with me. Figured I'd give the friendship a try.

It's better than bugging you all the time. SN was right that life ain't about giving up. It's about finding a way to keep going on until the end of the journey, that is without bugging the hell out of people.

She wanted me to learn how to be rich, but I don't know how. Long ago, she taught me to get smart using the public library. I think she knew my aspergers even then and didn't have time to help me, but she is very nice.

Lost "Gomer" Wilkins to cancer. He was a good guitar player and good friend to Dell Mack. And that drummer is JoJo Tate aka Joe Tate and he's played with a number of bands as a drummer including Jerry Lee Lewis. Dell knew him well.

The music industry has been kind to me in the last few years. You too, Jimmy.

But I gotta find my own way in life and this aspergers thing doesn't allow me to live like a normal person. Thinking ain't my forte, but I am a hell of a writer. I gotta follow my instincts and they're telling me that I'm messin' up your groove.

OCD is one of my things, but it was really good when I was a soldier. I was a really obedient soldier. And my favorite to protect was always SN. She could be so sweet sometimes.

With space being tight in a Corvette it was probably behind the seat or strapped to the front fender.

Jim McAllister said...

I always liked the ventipanes on the front door but I think as air conditioning became a bigger deal in cars, the manufacturers didn't see a need for them anymore. After all, with AC we didn't need to point that open window at us to get some relief for the heat.

Just one more memory from childhood and a simpler age wiped out.

Hi Janis,

I think the reason that the front door ventipanes were discontinued was probably because when cars had air conditioning available there wasn't as much need for them. One didn't need that window opening aimed at them to cool off on a summer day.

I remember when I saw them called ventipanes I thought, "What are those?" To me they will always be "cozy wings."

Thanks for your comments!

CJ,

I liked the bright lights button on the floor. It made more sense as having it on the steering column requires moving one's hand off the wheel for a second which could be eliminated.

I'm sure if I told that to a car dealer he would have some valid reason for defending the way it is but I liked the floor button.

Stanton seems very artificial to me and this food tax pretty much verifies that as does the silly gun buyback nonsense. It is just typical political grandstanding to get votes then reversing when elected.

Barkley is the man! I love how he wears his opinion on his sleeve and is usually right.

He said Duke would have no chance against Louisville today and argued the point with one of the other guys on the pre-game show who thought Duke could win.

Final score: 85-63 Louisville. Charles definitely does his homework and is a great personality.

..does anyone actually believe that the recession is over and good times are here again?
..does anyone actually believe that the billions of hollow point's that were bought using our tax money, depriving us from any personal access to ammunition were bought for our safety?

The political solution for the button on the floor vs. the switch on the dash would be just eliminate high beams for the public entirely- just ban them, they were never intended for a modern society.

After all no one needs high beams except the government vehicles and military anyway- you don't need high beams for hunting.

Rollie Fingers! Now you're talking.

Probably the best reliever to ever pitch.

I remember from a few years ago when he was being interviewed during a game he mentioned how he would come in to relieve in the 6th or 7th inning of games and would just pitch the rest of the game. No big deal!

It sounds odd today with all the "specialist" relievers: Now we have to have the "hold" guy pitch the 7th, the "set up" guy for the 8th, and the "closer" for the 9th.

Rollie mentioned how one time while with the A's, he was sent in to pitch the top of the 9th in a tie game which he did. Since Oakland didn't win in the bottom of the ninth he went out and pitched another shout out inning in the 10th.

This went on until the 18th inning when the A's finally won in the bottom of the 18th.

Fingers had pitched 9 innings of relief and deservedly got a "win" out of it! Not bad for a reliever but that's the way it was then.

In the '68 Series, Tim McCarver went to the mound to talk to Bob Gibson who was having some difficulty against the Tigers.

Gibson saw him coming and shouted "Get out of here! The only thing you know about pitching is that it's hard to hit!"

They didn't screw around in those days! Today's players are wimps in comparison.

Just heard that France just surrendered to North Korea...?

midnightsstaff said...

France has finally realized that a lot of unnecessary effort can be saved by just going to their time honored and historical natural position, on their back.

Why waste a lot of time and effort on saber rattling, followed by a pathetic and fruitless appeal to reason leading to the only conclusion the Frogs are really ever comfortable with?... a nonsensical struggle and appeasement phase usually followed by a complete and humiliating surrender.
What makes it remarkable this time is the fact they are eliminating the costly defeat component to the equation.

This pre surrender might signal a new dawn in French leadership, a reflection of surging nationalism.
After all, it's either surrender to One Hung Low in North Korea or "Rosy Cheeks" Merkel in Berlin..
..actually looking at it from that perspective it makes sense.

An inmate's lawyer I was escorting once told me "yeah he's a rotten no good son of a bitch lifer with a record a mile long, but at least he's not French"

Jim, the first car I bought in 69 was a 62 Plymouth Valiant with a push button transmission. Nice care but no A/C.Kept for a couple of years then sold it and bought a 71 Ford Pinto with A/C.

Pitchers like Gibson and Don Drysdale were nobody to mess with. Gibson was a former golden gloves boxer and Drysdale was six foot six. Can you imagine players wanting to charge the mound with those two?

Drydale once threw at the head of the on deck batter because he thought the guy was timing his pitches.

You don't see pitchers like that now. I guess that's why I don't watch baseball anymore.

We can win if we just try a bit harder.

According to the BBC, North Korea has the capability of hitting the United States with nuclear missiles. The North Korean satellite launch in December proved that much.

Hillary Clinton is no longer the Sec of State and Kerry takes suggestions and he definitely plays the game unexpectedly better. Madam Clinton said in a speech that she'd need more than just guesses. That's the trouble with women.

I told her that Syria had to be gone by November and in November the madam took sick. Syria will be taken down by Kerry now.

If Syria falls, Iran will fall, NK will follow, leaving China and Russia naked, since that's largely where they get their oil. They will have to negotiate if they want oil that the United States controls.

However, we've seen how well we can trust Muslims from Pakistan hiding bin Laden.

Remember that all wars are fought to gain wealth. What George W. did was cost us now, but when the global government is established and we control most of the world's oil supply, the U.S. can take a dominant position and make most of the rules.

The only logical reason that both Democrats and Republicans would outsource so many jobs that it actually collapses our own economy is a desperate gamble to keep from extinction. It is the only answer to everything going on.

What's fascinating is that we're also using the Russians and former Soviets to control people that we will eventually have to get rid of anyway.

Those Greeks and drug addicted entertainers are no longer funny.

What it comes down to, is control. People must be controlled, because too many countries have the capability of exterminating millions of lives with the aid of computers.

In Cincy it was an area called Avondale where a lot of them lived. They destroyed most of it and to this day it has not recovered.

Great game; put a whipping of the Red Wings. I watched in awe, good stuff.

I'm thinking maybe they should move to Topeka and become the Topeka "Tofus". Or, maybe KC is ready for another attempt at hockey as the Kansas City "Barbecues".

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

I did some work for Ptocter and Gamble in 1993-94. We sold Nyquil and hair spray to stores.

Bashas' had a show at a hotel in Mesa and in our booth we had those items among others but were told by the managers of the stores on the rez's that they couldn't buy them because the Indians would somehow separate the alcohol out of the Nyquil and use it to get high. They would also shoot hair spray into water and drink it.

A sad state of affairs when it comes down to that.

Jim McAllister said...

It's amazing what they got away with in the 70s with great comedians like Redd Foxx able to laugh at himself.

Try doing that today with all the thin skinned a-holes we have around around now.

I wish Redd was still here. I can imagine the routine he would dream up on Obama.

midnightsstaff said...

Redd was a pretty funny guy, kind of a Compton's version of Archie Bunker.

Deb got some free tickets to the movies so I looked in the paper to see what's playing. Nothing I want to see.

I'm not a hockey fan and could care less where they move to as long as they move so I don't have to see it in the sports page.

Love the BumWine site! I have only tried two of them myself: MD20/20 & Cisco. MD20/20 was affectionately known as "Mad Dog" when I was actually too young to drink -- 16 or 17 because I was legal at 19yo in AZ & past the age of experimenting with wine that tasted like koolade but kicked your butt -- but I did try it once again in the 1980s for old times sake then left most of the bottle to age in the frig until my dad found it & scarfed it down about a year later. I tried Cisco once about 10 years ago with a couple friends. We had fun. I think...Last I remember anyway. Never have done that again though.

Since I wouldn't touch anything in those days that had a screw off cap, I stuck with the high class Mateus Rose and Lancer's.

It didn't cost that much more to go first class and they were superior candle holders.

Jim, your buddy Bodo is a little upset with your blog about Hollywood on azvoices. He thinks you don't like his president.

Quote of the Day from the Los Angeles Times: (Courtesy: uremus)

"Frankly, I don't know what it is about California, but we seem to have a strange urge to elect really obnoxious women to high office. I'm not bragging, you understand, but no other state, including Maine, even comes close. When it comes to sending left-wing dingbats to Washington, we're Number One. There's no getting around the fact that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Maxine Waters, and Nancy Pelosi, they were stirring a cauldron when the curtain went up on 'Macbeth'. The four of them are like jackasses who happen to possess the gift of blab. You don't know if you should condemn them for their stupidity or simply marvel at their ability to form words."

This thing with the Coyotes is like a bad marriage that just won't end.
I pretty much ran out of gas with them a year ago, this final insult is just too much to take anymore.

It's criminal what these elected clowns have done to the taxpayers of Glendale, if they don't end being the first Arizona city filing for bankruptcy I'll eat my hat- but on the other hand there is Maryville.

...that single aspect might be the only thing keeping the NHL from pulling the plug, once this thing goes down there will never again be another municipal funded sports arena built ever again on the taxpayer's card.

The NHL owners are a bunch of fools if they think this thing is just going away and that relocation fee they get will get taken and then some I predict.

Once the dirty laundry gets into the courts a lot of people are going to wish it didn't- and the taxpayers are once again going to get bent over.

I gotta admit the polish dogs in Chase are not bad and the beer is reasonable compared to Jobbing.com arena.

I lost it for baseball the last strike they took, something snapped and the sport to me was no longer the pastime of my youth visited by comfortable memories of listening to Red Barber or Vin Scully describe the best game ever created, now it's US Congressmen grilling pitchers on steroid use or watching some banjo hitter knock down 5 mil a year as a utility player or a designated hitter who can't play defense in the American league.

Same thing just happened to me with the NHL lockout and what's happening to football.

Sports used to be a haven from cultural insanity, now it's just a subsection.

Middy,

Glendale has to be the dumbest around for getting involved with that arena and the Coyotes. It should have been built in Scottsdale where the season ticket holders are.

They wanted it originally at Scottsdale Road and McDowell but Glendale was salivating and Scottsdale said no. Hence, the current mess.

I still say Kamloops would be the best move. They could have a logo with a hula hoop on it.

Jim McAllister said...

So far, so good for the Diamondbacks even if the Brewers did throw the game yesterday by pinch hitting a pitcher in the extra innings with 2 outs.

It's a new style for them with a bunch of singles hitters but we shall see. Remember the Go-go White Sox?

Strictly bush league.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

I thought it was incredible when the stadium was build without a large parking lot.

In KC, they had a huge parking lot that was reasonable with plenty of spaces and no fears of being mugged. When I was a season ticket holder, I paid $1.50 to park.

Mike Slater said...

Jim, The Glendale City government wasn't the brightest bulbs in the closet with building the arena and having the hockey team.

We lived in Glendale for 10 years and had a nice home that we completely remodeled but when the city raised taxes we decided it was time to move.

After we moved the city had an election to keep the new taxes and the voters were dumb enough to vote for it.

As a Dodger fan I remember they used to use Don Drysdale as a pinch hitter from time to time.

Jim McAllister said...

Proud,

We all love that Willoughby tape but in reality, we would probably be bitching about no air conditioning, no automatic transmissions, and all those cover up clothes on the babes.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

That was a shame that you had to leave a nice home in Glendale but I don't blame you. They have a screwed up city government. I was shocked when I saw the stadia go in over there. As big as this area is, it needed to be more centrally located.

Sun City has to be better: no stadium tax and no school tax and you guys get to be the youngest ones there.

Jim McAllister said...

Oops! I forgot. Yes, Don D. was a pretty good hitter. In those days pitchers all had to hit a lot because they didn't change pitchers as often and the American League had them hitting.

Don Newcombe of the Dodgers was a hell of a hitter and pinch hit very often.

midnightsstaff said...

Most pitchers used to be great hitters, at one time they were always just the best athlete on the team.
but that was an era that played double headers remember?
..nothing like that happening in a unionized environment.

I would have loved to see some manager try to take Don out in the seventh because of some left handed pinch hitter coming up.. no one in their right mind wanted to walk over and try to take that ball away from him.

I hope Rick gets that fame he seems to think will give him happiness, however, there is plenty of evidence to disprove that idea.

Yeah I am pissed off today. wind and dust, ekg and xrays and a blood draw.. not only that but last Thursday I got my new Visa card, activated it and the next day it had already been jacked by someone on the east coast charging cab rides, Mad Dog, lap dances and some other crap..
Just following the President's lead I guess.

.. we now have a nation of gypsies, someone evidently has hacked into Visa's data base.. of course they will never tell you that.

Jim McAllister said...

Middy,

I can only imagine the reaction Walt Alston would have got trying to take Don out because of LH hitter.

How would you like to have a starting rotation of Drysdale, Koufax, Bob Gibson, and Whitey Ford with maybe Jim Palmer and Tom Seaver in backup.

Mike Slater said...

Drysdale was a mean SOB when it came to opposing batters. He once said he started the game mad and stayed that way until it was over.

Outside of Bob Gibson he was the most feared pitcher in baseball.

Mickey Mantle said "I hate to bat against Drysdale. After he hit you he'd come around, look at the bruise on your arm and say, do you want me to sign it.

Dick Groat had the best line when he said batting against Drysdale is the same as making a date with the dentist.

They don't make pitchers like him anymore.

Sad to hear of the death of the "iron lady" I just hope we don't send that idiot Biden to the funeral.

Jim McAllister said...

Yeah, sorry to see Maggie go but at least she had a long life.

Annette brings back great memories of childhood with the MM club and those corny movies. She must have really suffered having MS for 25 years.

Jim McAllister said...

I've been lucky with credit cards; never had any problem other than having to change the last 4 a few times.

.."Glendale has to be the dumbest around for getting involved with that arena and the Coyotes. It should have been built in Scottsdale where the season ticket holders are.
They wanted it originally at Scottsdale Road and McDowell but Glendale was salivating and Scottsdale said no. Hence, the current mess."

You ought to get down on all fours and thank your lucky stars that the nicest Indian Reservation in the State.. Scottsdale didn't get the same deal Glendale did because you would be looking at the very same situation.

The franchise was driven into the ground by Moyles and taken to bankruptcy court which would have left Scottsdale with the identical problem Glendale now has.. it wasn't attendance, it was allowing Moyles to run up a bar tab on the asking price with his shady deals that now is nearly twice the value of the franchise.
He did this for two years before the league finally stepped in..

He let Gretzky run the team into the ditch with ridiculous coaching, give draft picks away, trade off good players.
Those season ticket holders in Snottsdale would have stayed home no matter where the game was played with that kind of drama.

Tonight on paper the Coyotes even with that new midget superstar Connors they just signed don't belong in the same building as the talented Canuks lineup-
I think Vancouver ought to make them pay admission to the game like the rest..
..but the Yote's have beaten them like a rented mule the last couple of seasons- go figure..

..I guess that's why I love the sport, it really is one of the last honest games left for us to enjoy.

Yeah I am sorry that Annette had such a miserable life dealt to her, but society eats it's own- people were talking about her drinking when it was the MS.. and I guess that's why she pretty much went into seclusion, that and the other issues she suffered.

..all you lurking people who like to play the envy game should realize life isn't fair, it was never intended to be, so get over yourselves.

Hi Jim, We were smack dab in the middle, Orlando. Wife's best friend, (and fellow jail-bird) married a guy who lives in Orlando, we went to warm their new house.

While there we did the Disney thing for a day, went to Universal walk and dined at Emeril's, saw The Blue Man Group, and the best part, Saturday I rented a 21" deck boat and cruised the Saint John's river from a marina in Sanford, where my skilled sailing abilities allowed me to get up-close and personal with a whole mess of alligators and a couple manatees, that made the trip for me.

Leslie and I aren't all that crazy about Fla. too much rain humidity and bugs for people so used to Az weather, Leslie thinks it's too flat and boring, but when you're with really good friends, whats a little rain and bugs?

Mike Slater said...

Jim, no golf cart for me, to dangerous. I drive my big 4X4.

We had quite the wind and rain yesterday. One good thing is I don't have to rake the leaves now since they all got blown into someone else's yard.

One thing I didn't miss with all the wind was having a pool. We had one in Glendale and a storm like this it would take a week to clean it.

PROUD said...

Mike, our pool cleaning system runs at night, so by the time I got out and saw the mess...most, or at least a lot, of it, was gone.

Having said that, I still spent about 20+ minutes today leafing things out, (which BTW, is the longest amount ever spent in 6 yrs we've been here) So yesterday's storm, which where we are in Cave Creek, was an ALL-DAY event, and as bad as this pool's ever seen in 6+ yrs.

We aren't here in summer, but when we do return for a few days, and the summer temps are triple digits, we,(wife-self-dog) really enjoy having a cocktail in the pool while our house goes about it's duty of assuming a more human sensitive climate,(we leave the t-stat on 90 all summer) So, for that, and the fact that my grandson loves coming over and diving in, I am still a happy pool owner, though I can see why many are equally happy not being pool owners.

I was just in Florida...nobody has a pool (or even a patio) without having a complete aluminum screened assembly surrounding the entire area....The bugs would devour you in seconds.

Proving once again....Life is good in AZ

Jim McAllister said...

Proud,

I agree on Florida. Too humid, too many bugs, and I don't like all that reclaimed land. The beach is no big deal either; at least at this stage of the game.
