"YA GOTTA DO WHAT YA GOTTA DO!"

I keep hearing about how there are no jobs to be had because of the bad economy.  I’m not so sure there are NO JOBS to be had but here are plenty of jobs that people don’t want to take either because of their pride or that the job doesn’t pay enough.

I look at it from the point of view that if my family is starving I will do just about anything to make a buck.  When I hear someone say “I can’t do such lowly work because I have a college degree” I just laugh.  My wife Barb has a god line for those people:  “Ya gotta do what ya gotta do!”

When I graduated from college in 1969, I was concerned about making the most money I could.  I had been married for two years and the economy was decent so I didn’t care about the prestige of the position; I wanted the dough.  That’s how I got into the grocery business as a salesman.  I always had a gift of gab and going to school and being in the military gave me the nerve to ask for orders from sometimes grumpy buyers.

When I hear about the number of food stamp recipients going from 32 million to 46 million during Obama’s first four years, I shake my head in disgust that so many people who could probably have been doing SOMETHING productive have decided to jump on the government teat instead of doing something beneath what they consider their dignity.   Or, they could be just plain lazy!

It seems un-American to be that way.  But, is this the America many of us grew up in?  Absolutely not!  Many of us remember when a person in need was embarrassed to take any kind of welfare and if they did it was some place like a church.  Now, the government welfare lines proudly extend around the block.

Even as kids, my friends and I in Ohio always seemed to find some way to make our own money.  I had a job in the 4th grade that paid me $1 to go around the neighborhood and put advertising circulars on porches (remember porches?) for a record store.

Later, at 16 I had a job in a neighborhood deli making deliveries, putting away returnable bottles (remember returnable bottles?) and clerking.  In the Air Force I had a job doing janitorial work for a few hours in the evening.  In the summer of 1957 I had a full time delivery job at 16 and on holidays delivered flowers for a local florist.  During two summers of college I worked on home construction for 60 hours a week.  Did I mention caddying at the Cincinnati Country Club where I would carry two golf bags for 36 holes and $20?  That was decent money in 1958.

Carrying doubles for 36 holes will keep you in shape
Okay, enough about my exploits in the teenage working world.  But, those jobs did teach me the value of a dollar and prepared me for a full time career in sales after college.  With what I see today, I wonder if a lot of applicants are prepared for success and a career.

I guess a lot of it has to do with initiative.  Welfare is so common today; it is an easy crutch for many.  A person can go that route if they wish but I believe in Barb’s assessment:  “Ya gotta do what ya gotta do!”

I mowed grass with an old lawn mower with no engine, for several years. Then we got a power mower, and still cut grass, even upto my 60s for elderly who were loder than me. Did some caddying, either carring a bag or pulling it on a cart.
Played a little golf, too.
Besides mowing, I shovelled snow in the winter, landscaping, digging up gardens for flowers or food.
When I owned my business, restaurant, the employees were paid first, and I would take my share, which after paying the bills, usually left me with $60 a week, for 6 12hour days.
And didn't retire until I was 64, since then, still did a few hours of work for various people, sometimes I got paid with money or a nice home cooked meal.

Oh, well, that is enough of that.

As I'm 70 and have worked since the age of 15 I can relate to all you say Jim, however it's a far different country today than in years past. Im sure you've seen unemployed people interviewed on TV about their inability to find work. They tell of sending out hundred's and in some cases over 1,000 resume's on-line and getting no more than one or two responses neither of which resulted in being hired.

Today you can no longer apply for a job by going to a company, sitting down with a person in Human Resources and selling yourself. It's all impersonal and on-line now, so our generation was most fortunate in the day's before the internet when we could sell ouselves to a real live person.

This said, unemployment is down to the lowest level since 2008 and hopefully we'll continue to see further improvement in the jobs market as leading economist's are predicting. Let's hope for the good of they country they're right!

During the 80's, I worked for a dollar an hour and lived in the forest in a tin shack.

On the farm, as a youngster, you start working at the age of five-years-old sometimes. Jobs like gathering the eggs for a quarter a week or something. Gotta teach kids early to handle money or they grow up like me.

I've just been thinking of selling out and moving to Colorado since I got sick and with that eye test thing, then the studio BS. It's no fun in Missouri anymore.

Can't take pills anymore for the liver. It's a drag. So in Colorado, there is less humidity and meteologist Jill Gilardi told me that increasing humidity and low pressure causes people with arthritis to have more pain. That's why people move to Arizona to work.

Sometimes relocating for health or jobs is just the way of it. Everyone's gonna die sometime and everyone can make choices of where and under what circumstances.

In the Ozarks, it's easy to get work, depending on who you're related to. Out West, a person can always create a company to make their own money in a job of their own that they can control. I've done it lots of times.

I once created a magazine to write stories for and I had subscribers for it too, then I used those clips on a resume to get paying assignments. It worked too! In fact, publishers were impressed.

I was born into wealth, my dad was a high school teacher and made 13 grand a year in the 50's.. so I got everything I wished for when I was a kid growing up in Texas..

I realized at an early age that work was beneath my standing once I found out that all I had to do was ask my dad for money and he would just give me whatever I asked for- like magic..

When I was twelve I jumped at the chance to mix and help pour concrete for .25 cents an hour all summer in Texas, it wasn't hot that year so the time flew by, we ran out of sidewalks to pour so me and the other hire spent a couple of weeks digging a new cesspool by hand..
Randy my fellow laborer went to the dark side and turned into a lawyer in Amarillo..
..you can't save them all.

It wasn't for the money that summer, it was just for the sheer joy of mixing concrete in the great outdoors, and it was a nice change from bucking hay which tends to become monotonous.

Out of boredom a year or two later I took a job at a beer distributor loading trucks every evening, next year making twenty five dollars a truck unloading moving vans, cutting mesquite fire wood, washing cars at a used car dealership.

..it was like stealing candy from a baby..

Of course the money was secondary because I knew I had a big inheritance coming so it was just a youthful lark.

Same thing with installing tires at Western Auto with Sunday's and Wednesdays off and repossessing furniture people couldn't pay for while saving up for gas money to go to Montana.

Then it was off on another fun experience working a mile deep in the mines of Butte Montana.

I suggested they take the 5.25 an hour union wage and give it to charity but they insisted I take it- something about union dues.
I still had that fortune waiting so I wasn't interested in money.

Still bored I figured a tour in Viet Nam might shake off the blahs , so I struck a bargain with the USMC so me and 499,999 other guys went on the big adventure...

Now that was a great experience for a young man, I lost weight in the process and stole 214 dollars a month from them thanks to something called combat pay.. what a deal.

But all along I knew I still had that big inheritance waiting so with a young wife and three kids I fooled around with construction and owning my own business for a while, of course it was not for anything as course as filthy lucre- just finding myself.

I then decided to go back to construction.. not for the money you understand, but for the sheer joy of getting up at 4 in the morning to be pouring concrete at 6- those ten hour days go by fast when you are working in 110+ temps or freezing at Christmas at Edwards AF base.

I realized that sounds like an idyllic adventure to most so when I was 48 once again bored to tears I mustered at an academy to learn how to deal with criminals..

15 years working in a men's prison probably looks like the dream job to most.
To this day I still wonder why there was so many unfilled positions for such a fun job?

Most people that would jump at the opportunity somehow still have to be arrested to get them to visit a state prison for an extended stay..
But it was something a trust fund brat like me did just for the experience..

I should have paid them for all the good times and the chance to rub shoulders with the cream of society.

So I can't really relate to you guys Jimmy, as you can see my path has been paved, smoothed and shepherded all the way..

just ask Cj.

My first ‘job’ was when I was about ten, and Mom and I were living in public housing in Hartford. I made really nice potholders on a rack with those cotton-elastic loops, and we walked around the neighborhood where I sold them for a quarter. The elderly residents of Section C were always generous enough to buy them.

NOTE: My brother, Tucson, worked summers while in high school (late 50s) in the tobacco farms in CT. he came home filthy every day, and every day my mom washed his jeans despite his protest: she was NOT going to allow him out of the house in dirty clothes.

My second job at 16 was in a bakery where I sold from behind the counter. The first Saturday I made TEN DOLLARS!!! I quit that job because it was rather fattening, and went to work for my senior year of high school as a salesgirl in J.J. Newberry for $1.60 an hour, Thursday evening and all day Saturday (the Blue Laws were still in effect and stored were only allowed to be open after 6 PM on Thursdays). One week I got more in my paycheck: I had a raise to $165 per hour!! I was so happy… until the following week when they realized they’d made a mistake and took back a nickel for every hour I’d worked the week before. Cheap bahstahds.

That last till I graduated and went to college. In UConn I worked in the summer as a taxi dispatchers (the Louis DePalma for the UConn Physical Plant!). I shared a small metal trailer with the night crew, who were raunchy dudes and had large posters of extremely well-endowed nekkid wimmin all over the walls. I saved up my money and bought us a color TV set. It broke after a couple of weeks, sigh…

When I graduated UConn in ‘75 with an English-History degree, I couldn’t find a job anywhere – not even as a lowly salesgirl in a department store. And I applied to lots of large and small department stores. I would have taken anything. I’d be crying every day when Mom got home from work, till she finally said go back to school and get some kind of technical degree. I would up answering an ad for the Computer Processing Institute, where I spent nine months getting a diploma. We lost about half our class who never came back after mid-break. One of those guys happened to be a murderer who was arrested for kidnapping and killing a UConn coed years before! Yikes! And he WAS weird. Very creepy.

So I found a programming job in 1976 for what I thought would be a few years till I figured out what I really wanted to do. 36 years later, I’m still in the same profession.

After 19 years at my magnificent company here in the valley (Don’t leave home without it!), I was kicked to the curb, and for the last three years have been pingponging between temporary contracting jobs that last anywhere from 6 moths to 3. Think I’ve had six positions since 2009. No benefits, no paid time off, no sick days, less pay. BUT – I’m grateful to have any job nowadays, and happy to work at anything. In between gigs I do volunteer work. I make myself useful. It’s stupid to whine about cruel fate: just freakin’ pick yourself out there and do watcha have to do!

Jim, this is indeed the era of the hands out instead of the handout. Hands out waiting for Obama freebies.

I hope the 7.9% unemployment rate is true (that it's declining)...but I don't trust anything reported from the Obama administration (Benghazigate). It will be very telling to see the November and December jobs reports. The layoffs have just begun (convenient for Obama that the announcements from companies like Boeing were AFTER the election). Obamacare will just exacerbate the problem (companies will not hire the 50th employee, or will lay off that 50th and 51st employee).

WELCOME, EVERYONE, TO OBAMA'S POTEMKIN VILLAGE. Please take a seat, keep your eyes closed and hands over your ears at all times and try and enjoy the ride for another four years.

There are so many more on food stamps because Obama weakened the work requirement. Now it is to easy to be a lay-about and do nothing and get paid. Free phone, rent, food, only chumps work for money. They can sit around and breed with no consequences other than being asked to vote every two years.

His thoughts on soaking the rich only produce about $160 billion per year, if the rich don't flee or avoid the taxes legally. Yet the Government spends in excess of a trillion borrowed dollars a year and the debt goes forever up. No solution to this other than to cut spending. Education Dept, Energy Dept, cut 2/3 of the 60,000 employees at the State Dept then lets see what the situation is but no, there are still votes to be bought and "needs" to be met. We should cut some of Michelle'sw 22 servants too, Laura Bush had only two assistants.

The final bill might come after I'm gone, and I certainly hope so but grandkids will have to deal with it.

As far as fair share? This will a fair share I don't mind sharing with everyone because misery loves company - who better to be miserable with than Obama voters?

Jim, I started working at 14 for my grandfather that was a general contractor. I worked for him in the summer when school was out. At 16 I went to work for the A.J. Bayless grocery store for $1.60 an hour after school. My job was bagging groceries and taking them out to the customers car plus at closing time at 11pm I got to mop the entire store.

My grandfather paid me $5 bucks an hour and the store paid me $1.60 an hour so I was in hog heaven.

At 20 I hired on to the phone company were I spent the next 30 years and retired at age 50.From the time I was 14 until 50 I was never without a job. Never collected unemployment.

I didn't enjoy all those jobs sometimes but the reason I worked was because I wanted to make money.

The trouble today is a lot of people don't want to work and would rather let the government take care of them. I have some family members that think that way, Mostly of my wife's side. She has a niece that's almost 40 and has been getting SS disability checks for almost 20 years because she is bi-polar and can't get along with people and can't hold a job.

She's just one example, times that by millions and it's not hard to figure out why the country is going broke.

Although that is primarily referring to psychology, it seems to have relevance in other aspects of life.

Maybe that's why it's so hard to get people to look at things from an unfamiliar perspective..

What I am getting at is this group of people at the blogsite are pretty similar, successful people have similar methods including hard work, however we are also pretty much representative of a dying culture.

Today's twenty to forty year old inhabitant of the brave new world has grown up with entirely different stimuli and vantages that we don't understand.
I never looked at the government as anything but in the way, and the youngsters except for the throwbacks like my son seem to look at it as opportunity..

Like I tell Jim, "don't make the mistake of thinking other people see things like we do"
..and then I go out and do the exact opposite.

The study noting the acceptance of socialism being much higher in the 18 to 29 year old's can be seen as the result of the advent of personal media combined with political and philosophical ignorance, media overload and an overall sense of detachment... and that's a lot to overcome.

I think we are swimming against the tide in a lot of ways.

Duh. Bills go up, prices go up. That's just business.

The current plan is to move to Colorado for the medical marijuana thing for the liver and the eye thing. A New York Times story in 2010, said that the Denver VA hospital has "eased restrictions" in states with legal marijuana.
Herbal is the way to go and it's not like the Mexican cartels would put a list of ingredients on their packaging. The weed money goes back into the Colorado economy and not to Mexico ... in theory. I used to smoke that stuff in the 70's. I never thought it would be a medical necessity someday.

Don,

The unemployment number was 7.8 when O took office. Last month it was 7.9.

I wouldn't call that a drop in unemployment plus the actual unemployment is about 15% when all the numbers are entered.

I don't know where you read that employment is improving.

Everything I see shows it will get worse especially with companies cutting jobs because of Obamacare and the possible fiscal cliff because Obama has made a fool of himself over his "fair share" nonsense.

Now he is stuck with it and if it happens, companies will be hoarding cash, cutting more jobs, not expanding, and maybe going offshore.

Most people think the rich pay their share and much more. (Look again at my above numbers) This fixation of Obama's is about more than about money. He wants to nail rich people to make a point about how he is for the common man.

He doesn't have to worry, he now has his following of takers just like he wanted.

By the way; how is that inheritance thing working out?

Great bio. You are tough; a real survivor.

It's amazing the kinds of jobs we take through the years. That's funny that Newberry's took back the lousy nickel from the 1.65 they made the mistake on but that's was the way it was with those visor headed accountants in those companies.

I remember when you mentioned the situation at AMEX. That was a lousy deal.

I knew of guys who worked with P & G who were 50 with kids in college and had 25+ years with the company who were let go because P & G could hire a kid out of college for half what they were making. They just figure "Tough luck buddy."

You are someone who hangs in there and usually lands on your feet. You have a nice home and have traveled extensively which shows you know haw to handle those situations.

I think you mom would be proud of you.

Jim McAllister said...

A,

That 7.9 is nonsense.

Those who deal with this in a logical fashion know it is 14-15%.

I don't put anything past this administration when it comes to false numbers and lying.

Hell, why not? Look at his electorate. None of them have to worry about receiving invitations from Mensa.

All they know is to line up for the free stuff paid for by those who work. For food stamps usage to go from 32 million to 46 million in his first term is a good example of what is happening. They are the ones who were screaming "If Romney win Ima gonna riot!"

You know there is dissension in this country when all those states want to secede from the USA even if it is only symbolic of their displeasure with this guy.

Now, 20 states have refused to provide insurance exchanges under the rules of Obamacare plus companies are folding and/or cutting back on employees all over the place.

The final straw may be Benghazi now that Petraeus is saying that his comment about al queda being responsible was removed from his report. That's serious stuff and I can imagine who is behind that especially after Rice's comments on the Sunday shows and in the UN.

Hmmmmm.....Another Watergate maybe?

Jim, the work ethic was instilled in me by my parents at an early age. Me and my two brothers would get a small allowance every week but only if we did our chores.

Education was stressed at home and if we brought home a bad report card there was hell to pay.

In 1969 when I graduated from High School I was in the draft but my number was never called so I went to college to get some more education. My brothers on the other hand both enlisted in the army after they graduated from High School and served their tours in Korea.

When My father graduated in 1942 he enlisted in the Coast Guard and fought in WW11 in the Pacific.

Deb and I instilled the work ethic in our kids and both of them are doing well.

What pains me is the fact that all the people that voted for Obama just want free stuff and don't want to work for it.

Rick Kepple formerly known as Rick Kepple said...

The work ethic was instilled with me at an early age that I don't remember. It was probably something like, you're no one special so pick up some coal and put it in the bucket if you want some beans for supper! Back then, parents could cut a switch and whip your ass!

These days, parents can't even get kids off the video games and they want clean energy, so they don't have to go to the coal house.

I'm rethinking the moving to Colorado thing, since it might be cheaper to tell those skinflints in Jeff City that legalizing marijuana might pay for Obamacare. Then I don't have to move and I'm a cheap bastard destined to be a millionaire.

I think Middy has Welfare envy.

Note that he makes so many comments about people on Welfare, disability, food stamps, etc. and it's because anyone saying those things is envious of the lifestyle. I should do a video to educate Middy that being poor is no fun. Guys like him are so deluded.

Middy, please don't dive in dumpsters. I know it looks fun, but please, those things are dirty. I know those pies look good and maybe you can clean the condom and use it again to save money, but it's not a good idea. You don't know where those things have been.

I think Middy just wants a free cellphone. He's got poverty envy.

Yes, it was 7.8 when Obama took office, increased during the rescession to a high of 10.0 in October of 2009 and has steadily dropped to 7.9 where we are today. The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the stat monthly and when we recently saw a .02% decrease from 8.0 to 7.8 many people like you and Jack Welch said the Administration was influencing the Bureau. Much to their credit all leading Republicans in Congress attested to the Bureau's independence and integrity as did the Wall Street Journal.......

..."This whole issue is moving forward very quickly," warns Crone. "Already there is a bill requiring all businesses to automatically enroll their employees in IRA plans in which part of every employee’s paycheck would be automatically deducted and deposited into this account. If this passes, the government will be just one step away from being able to confiscate all these retirement accounts."
NSC has taken the lead in warning the nation about this new government onslaught and is plotting ways to stop it.

"This effort ultimately is designed to grab the retirement nest eggs of America’s senior citizens. This new government annuity scheme, even if it is at first optional, will turn into a giant effort to redistribute the wealth of America’s older citizens," explains Crone. "This scheme mirrors what I expect the President will try to do with Social Security. He wants to turn that program into a welfare program, too."

We are focusing on Denver and Aspen for the music festivals and film festivals. And the computer guy is disabled with heart problems. Nick needs to experience the real music world.

We were thinking mountains. Getting snowed in for the winter stuff. Maybe Park County Colorado. I saw some four bedroom cabins for rent at about $1600 a month on the Internet. If something went wrong, I couldn't handle that alone, but I don't live in big cities. Don't do inside concerts.

Where would you suggest, Don?

Mike Slater said...

Don Williams, why should the Republican Party go after the young, women and minorities? The Democrats have a lock on those groups because they all want free stuff.

When you have more takers than those that work for a living the Democrats will always be in charge until the money runs out and then we'll be like Greece with riots in the streets because the takers won't get their government checks every month.

In 1961 John Kennedy said "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Today that's changed to ask not what I can do for my country but what can my country do for me.

So, let's go over this again so you may understand better. We both agree it was 7.8 when he took office and is 7.9 now which I believe is higher than 7.8. That is not so good for 4 years

So, what is your problem? You repeated exactly what I said.

I'm sure glad you are an Obama lover. You guys make a good match.

Obviously you are a liar.. what's worse you lie to yourself.
Welfare is obviously a big business in this state along with every other state.

How do you expect us to believe anything you say in defense of stealing from others to buy votes when food stamps have been encouraged and grown by 15 million people in less than four years?

Rush Limbaugh said after the Tucson shooting that his words don't change the way people think, so why is he and Bill O'Reilly on the air then? They are there to change the way people think. They incited violence against a Democrat in tucson and God spared her life. Don't think that Limbaugh and O'Reilly aren't going to pay for that. They are the spokesmen of domestic terrorist organizations in America.

The Republicans thought they could win by citing God, but the Lord brought in Hurricane Sandy to show how little the GOP cares. God will side with Obama long before He sides with liars using His name to harm the poor.

Back when AZ Central switched to the facebook format I got into a heated argument with Paula,(believe round these parts, she's the Red Menace). I told her that nobody could change their entire belief system overnight like she had done, and accused her of setting things up for a switch to the Democrat party (as she got her butt creamed in the Republican primary) I told her the sudden change fooled nobody, and that the last thing this country needed was another politician placing their their own political career ahead of the good of the nation she replied I as an ass (OK, so she may have got that one right),Well, fact is in addition to being an ass, I was 100% correct,

In this morning's Republic Penneypacker announced that she is indeed making the move to become a Democrat.

I see this as a good thing, because the last thing I want representing my interests is a self serving politician who will say and believe what ever it takes to get elected.

Her big move should be seen for what it really is...

Hi Jim,
I know what you mean. In 1955, when I was 15, I got a Saturday job helping the neighborhood Wonder Bread man make his Saturday deliveries.

I was paid $6 for an 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM back breaking job of carrying a delivery crate/basket into the stores on one side of the street in New York City while he did the other side.

I also got to eat as many over/date cup cakes as I wanted and a couple of Pepsi - Colas.
My Mom took $4:00 of my pay and allowed me to keep $2.00: my parents were separated at the time, and the household needed the money.

When I got home at 3:00 PM, I was tuckered out and slept for a couple of hours. But I never regretted the job.

That job along with many other weekend jobs (carrying groceries at the supermarket, stacking soft drink crates at same, running errands), they all added up the development of a work and achievement ethic that enabled me to become a corporate executive in 1973 at Berol Corporation in Connecticut.

That’s all gone now. Today its gimmee, gimmee, gimmee…

I really miss the “Old America.”

Because you in particular have completely forgotten your Okie-working class roots.

Dear Simple Rick: If you actually have some kind of a spa on your lot behind the trailer, I think you should heat the thing up just enough to dissolve all your meds in it, then go soak your head. Half of the nation's 40 biggest publicly traded corporate spenders have announced plans to curtail capital expenditures this year or next, according to a review by The Wall Street Journal of securities filings and conference calls.

Nationwide, business investment in equipment and software—a measure of economic vitality in the corporate sector—stalled in the third quarter for the first time since early 2009. Corporate investment in new buildings has declined"

it goes on..
.."At the start of the year, Caterpillar expected to spend $4 billion building and expanding factories in Illinois, North Carolina, Texas, China and Thailand, among others. Last month, Caterpillar said it wouldn't reach that target, and expects capital spending to fall next year.

In technology, Intel is facing lower demand for its semiconductors. Intel last month said it would shift idle factory space and equipment into producing its newest chips, reducing its capital spending this year to roughly $11.3 billion, from an earlier projection of $12.5 billion. Chief Financial Officer Stacy Smith told investors last month that spending could fall again next year"

Allen,

I agree, I miss the old America where people wanted to work; not sit on their asses and take freebies from the government.

The election is a good barometer as to how much this country has deteriorated to the point where a worthless nobody like Obama can actually be elected to the presidency, do nothing right, then get re-elected. Why? Because HE GIVES THE TAKERS "STUFF" with no requirement that they work for it.

What happened to good old American pride and the desire to get ahead due to one's own initiative? What happened to saving and being ashamed to take charity from the government? What happened to people working hard to be successful and not having to be punished for it?

It's a bad situation and as long as the Obamas of the world can retain favor we are in for a worst scenario down the road.

Buzz,

As John said, Red just wants to get elected to something, anything.

Luckily, even the dumb public of today can see through her phoniness. She is 54 and frustrated and she deserves it.

Mike,

Yeah, nice to see the Bidwills take it on the chin again in Atlanta. Next week it's St. Louis in Glendale. The Rams handled them easy in St. Louis, hopefully they will again.

The Suns still suck. They put up a good fight against the Lakers and the Heat this week but they had no shot. Those teams have too many horses for them.

The days of sellouts at US Airways is over. Glad to see it. I have nothing against the team since Nash is gone but I have no use for Sarver.

Jim, as you know I'm a native of Phoenix born in 1951 and growing up in the Valley that had no pro sports teams until the Suns in 1968. By that time I had my favorite teams, mostly in L.A., because that was about the only games we could get on TV or radio.

I have no allegiance to any of the local pro sports teams.

Kinda like the idea of Nash on the Lakers plus the hired the old Suns coach.

Paula's never got over her crushing defeat to Ugenti in 2010. It really messed up her mind. She's turned into a bitter woman. I hope she enjoys it.

I've had a concealed carry permit for almost 15 years and carry all the time. On the rare occasion I forget my gun I feel naked. I currently carry a Ruger 380 with a 6 round magazine and one in the chamber plus another 6 round magazine in my pocket.

I also from time to time take my Ruger 9mm with me that has two 15 round magazines if I'm going out of town on a trip. Pays to be careful.

I don't usually like to go shopping but during the holiday season I go with Deb because of all the people in the parking lots that are kind of,shall we say, not outstanding citizens. Most of the time I stay in the truck but I'm always looking around to see what's going on. That's the one thing that was always stressed in the concealed carry classes. Always check your surroundings.

My son's a cop and we talk about what to do if confronted by a mugger or someone that wants to steal your car and his advise to me was put two rounds in the chest and one in the head. It works every time.

There was an interesting notion today in a think tank discussion. What if they legalized marijuana in Colorado after the Aurora shooting because weed controls violent tendencies? Shut up Slater. No rookies in this discussion. It's precisely the simplist solution to prevent violence. It would be just like the government to conduct a social experiment for passive crowd control and it would certainly pay for itself. The government could pretty much do as they pleased and no one would really mind. It's brilliant!

What you got is a state full of Christian military veterans and the government fears them. Why if it works, they could fire Officer Slater and put in a pot vending machine and raise happy little sheeple in the New World Order.

I agree with your points about liking the L. A. teams. We never throw away our allegiance to the teams we knew as kids even if our hometowns suddenly get teams.

I'm the same way about the Cincinnati Reds. I have followed them since 1954 and have all the autographs of those early Reds teams. I have nothing against the D-Backs but they are newbies to me plus it's harder to like the teams anymore with their attitudes.

One of Paula's problems is that she actually thinks she is relevant and that someone gives a damn what she does. Now that I think about it I should have picked up a Ugenti sign and stuck it in her front yard.

I don't blame you for being armed. If anyone screws with you, you are ready for them. I never thought that I would be talking that way in America but here we are: it's a different world out there and I also carry a gun when I go out. I get my Social Security and like they said, I made a boatload of money and paid in, so I'm getting it back. I praise God that I live in a country where there is a safety net for people when they can't get health insurance because they are a disabled veteran, or can't get a job, because of pre-existing medical conditions. If President Obama is NOT controlled by the G20 or someone sinister, why does he need a teleprompter to tell him what to say? It's a wireless puppet thing.

Middy quoting H.L. Menchen, a libertarian and anarchist. Menchen's views are pretty much along the same lines as Islam, in that he didn't believe in government or insurance companies for the investment given and little or no return from the money.

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.” - Alexis de Tocqueville.

A bit over your head, eh Middy?

Don't forget that Congress wrote the Veterans Disarmament Act and President Bush signed it, so that VA doctors can prescribe that military veterans have their firearms confiscated.

"Contrary to conventional wisdom, and the sniffs of our more sophisticated and generally anti-gun counterparts across the pond, the answer is 'no.' And not just no, as in there is no correlation between gun ownership and violent crime, but an emphatic no, showing a negative correlation: as gun ownership increases, murder and suicide decreases." - Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, "Would banning firearms reduce murder and suicide?"

Since politicians ignored all information about the economy collapsing for years, they will probably ignore the facts concerning gun control too.

Here it is: I have paid for my SSI nearly my whole life just like you & Mike. Even now when I am making too little to pay expenses, I am still paying into the system...JUST TO BE TOLD that I probably never will be able to collect on it when I need it. Not to mention crap like this from Mike: "I would think you would be happy now that Obama got reelected. Look at all the free stuff you'll get."

BTW, Jim, I was addressing Mike specifically with the comment you are taking issue with here. Not you. Mike is the one who told me a few months back that he is fixing to collect his share of SSI early while at the same time voting to deny me mine. And, hey, if you want to called that "free stuff" -- the issue of SSI being what sealed the deal on my vote for Obama this time around (I voted Republican in 2008, remember?) -- then you should admit that Mike is acting like a big pig. And that is putting it much too nicely.

I actually do not begrudge you any of the money you say you earned, Jim. Not you, not Middy, not Mike...Not even Rick. So why do you all begrudge me mine? That's the real issue here.

And you know something else? Right now, compared to me, Rick is looking like a rich bitch. But I am working my tail off for what little money I do make. I still have the ethic. Now all I need is a little of that luck you all take so heartily for granted.

"I'm not too optimistic about this mediation," Frank Hurt, president of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union, said when reached earlier Tuesday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio. He said he couldn't get to New York, where the session was taking place; instead, he said, the union's secretary-treasurer was attending.

The mediation came at a judge's suggestion after the Twinkie maker said Friday that a week-long strike by the bakers left the company no choice but to seek a bankruptcy judge's approval for liquidation.

The judge, Robert Drain, urged mediation, citing among other things the hope for saving some 18,500 jobs. The company filed for bankruptcy protection for the second time in January.

The judge indicated Monday that if mediation wasn't successful, Hostess could return to court Wednesday to pursue its liquidation plan.

Doug Mansky, a Hostess driver in Detroit and a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, was in the process of moving to a cheaper condominium on Tuesday, after his union had agreed to an 8% pay cut that he said would shave $200 a week from his income. After Judge Drain cleared Hostess to impose the same new labor terms on the bakers union, they went on strike.

"I hope things work out. I'm going to be 49 and trying to find a job in a market that's terrible," Mr. Mansky said"

the unions certainly showed those capitalists a thing or two eh?
..they burned their own fields and screwed their own workers.
..it's 1930's Germany shaping up all over again..

midnightsstaff said...

But the best part of this travesty is the mediation they demanded left no choice to ever sell to Bimbo which would have hopefully saved their jobs.. wouldn't want any monopolies being set up.. haha.
..remember those noble trust busters??

Looks like the union jobs are gone forever for the thugs who can't count past five.

But the real farce of the matter is when you realize the left has it's tail in a knot over a business not supplying organic vegetables but the very thing the Wookie is demanding we quit serving our children..
- the evil twinkie..

actually this is great theater.. and the unions are finally learning something about economics in the process.

I wonder if Obama will step in like he did with GM and forever ruin the Hostess brand as well. after all he never has to ask for union support again.

I just love waking up to feel good stories like this.

without mirrors and smoke none of this would be possible.

That book Santelli was talking about at the end "the forgotten man" should be required reading by all voters.

So when the chairman of the Fed makes a statement like..

..."To be clear, the reduction in mortgage originations and home purchases for all groups relative to the pre-crisis period partly reflects weakness in the effective demand for housing rather than the unavailability of mortgage credit. Unemployment, income loss, and income insecurity prevent many households from purchasing homes, and concerns about the future direction of the labor market, housing prices, and the economy more generally keep other potential buyers on the sidelines. In addition, the fall in home prices means that many current homeowners cannot rely as much as they could in the past on tapping their existing home equity to trade up to larger or better homes, while underwater homeowners may be financially unable to move from their current homes"

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/11/15/ben_bernankes_speech_on_the_housing_market_116190.html

Middy,

They pulled Santelli's video. I would have liked seeing it; I'm a big fan of his.

I wonder if there has ever been a worse president than Obama who actually got reelected. Maybe Wilson.

I saw Bernanke's comments yesterday; scary. Meanwhile president numb nuts is busy screwing up the pronunciation of everyone in Thailand.

"Right now, compared to me, Rick is looking like a rich bitch."

Geez CJ, you're on SSI? Holy crap! I remember those days of $400 a month living. If it wasn't for a cancer scare, I sure as hell wouldn't be selling the farm to move to Colorado and taking the risk of being homeless. There is absolutely no excuse for wealthy people to ship jobs overseas and make Americans live without. History proves time and time again that violence will result from this behavior that Middy supports.

".. did I miss anything?"

Yeah. Your opinions about military veterans living on your dime kind of crap. And you claim to have served in Vietnam? I don't believe you ever served in the military, Middy. I just don't buy it. I do believe that you were a prison guard. Don't need any brains to do that job.

midnightsstaff said...

The internet will no longer be a free forum of expression- they are working on scrubbing anything that is truthful and might educate the idiots of the true nature of Obama's communism.

yeah.. they can pull whatever they don't want you to see.
it's official.

And no you dribbling fool, I don't claim to have served.. it's an undeniable fact- I have a dd214 that reflects my mos, my awards and operations I was on,- do you?
I also have pictures and letters I saved that were sent from there, think those were faked?

Most of all I don't feel compelled to wear it on my sleeve like phony soldiers like you Rick- there are a lot of personal memories I have that I wouldn't share with a turd like you.

Rick Kepple said...

"yeah.. they can pull whatever they don't want you to see.

Middy, I have no doubt that you served in Vietnam, but get with the program, son! You need to stop this anti-veteran BS. One, the VA is created to be biased. Two, the Supreme Court will be hearing a widow's case in 2013, that could streamline the entire claims system. Three, Agent Orange is not a mystery chemical responsible for all things evil. It's a herbicide and they sell it at your local farm store. Read the warning label and that ends the argument, but it's not sold as "Agent Orange."

To me, everything I see on the global stage is a crock created by intelligence agencies in order to destabilize the global population through creating a "necessity" for their intrusion into our lives, then eventually stabilizing the chaos that they created in the first place.

The trick is to make you and I want to ask the government to help us, thereby losing more of our rights. It's not personal. It's just politics.

You see, even the birth rate is growing beyond the death rate. Dictators are allowed to take over and people allowed to murder their own kind, if it is cheapter than negotiating contracts. Why intervene if death of anonymous others is more profitable?

We fought Communism in Vietnam and now Communists own much of our country. These are the brilliant people educated in ivy league schools selling us out.

Missouri's Christian cops leaked the MIAC report and that's the only reason anyone knows about it! I believe that every state has a similar report, especially California, that probably has Middy's name on it as an enemy of the State, simply because of who Middy really is. Middy can fool me, but he can't fool the feds.

CJ, stop your whining for a minute and listen up. Who told you won't get SS and how am I trying to deny you getting it?

If something is not done to reform SS and medicare than you may not get it There are 10,000 baby boomers retiring every day and that will put a real burden on the system.

I'm acting like a big pig? Please.

I paid into SS and Medicare for 35 years, not because I wanted to but because the government forced me to. I would have much rather invested that all that money in those years.

If you don't get SS or Medicare don't blame me , blame the government.

The ones that won't get it are our children and grand children.

BTW, luck has nothing to do with it.

You and I will never agree on any thing but I do wish you and yours a happy Thanksgiving.

Jim, I read your piece on Paula. Spot on. I doubt you will ever hear from her again. I left a few comments on her blog and it's safe to say I'm not on her favorite list. Same with Greathouse.

I have to admit though I really enjoy pissing them off.

Jim McAllister said...

CJ,

Mike is right. We didn't ask to pay into SS all our working years. It was mandatory just like serving in the military USED to be.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

I kept it brief on Paula but detailed enough that she got the point.

Did you read her pitiful blog about poor Toledo going to hell because of guys like Romney?

She has become a sad person. She would love to win an election; ANY election! It's never going to happen though; she isn't honest plus she is mercurial in her beliefs. She is an opportunist who would say anything to help her cause.

It's nice to know that Michelle Ugenti is in the Capitol representing our district.

Libertarians say the same thing as Jimmy. They don't believe in Social Security, drivers licenses, license plates, marriage licenses mandatory insurance or religion. They also hoard gold and are getting pretty good at arguing common law in courtrooms.

Jim, Paula can't seem to understand why she loses elections. Maybe it's because voters aren't buying her BS. Her loss to Ugenti put her over the edge.

Libertarianism is not usually a choice.. it chooses you, most of all we just want to be left alone to enjoy the freedoms that Liberty and Providence provides.
One certainly doesn't have to be wealthy in physical property to enjoy the fruits of living free- it's as natural to a libertarian minded person as drinking water is to a human being.
any decent person with money realizes it makes a great servant but a lousy master- I know wealthy people that you would believe were near poverty.
they enjoy their wealth in other ways than living ostentatiously.

..well I'm screwed, the internet channel that I use to watch the Packers has somehow left me a virus.. it took about three hours to let the avast run in safe mode and it picked up 31 hobgoblins.
I've been watching that link for about three years now for hockey and foooootbaaal.. and nothing like this has happened.

At least the new garage door opener is finally in.. what a pain in the kiester that was... never again.

She has a disgusting self centered socialist attitude.

Gonna make blackberry cobbler this morning, wild rice, mashed potatoes, other stuff and finally the store bought duck. It was always Dora's favorite. Nick is gonna make the pumpkin cookies later. Then I'm planning to watch "White Christmas," "Miracle on 34th Street," "It's a Wonderful Life," and others and finishing it off with learning Espanol and that new video production program.

Oh, and I saw the new "Red Dawn." Yeah, it's definitely a propaganda film to inspire Americans to fight for their country! It doesn't end, but keeps going for a sequel. I anticipate tactical weapons, gear and Prepping to increase in sales.

Happy Thanksgiving!

NOAA is now predicting a different winter forecast than a month ago.

Evidently the weakened El Nino effect is closer to a La Nada and is now projected to leave us with "a 65% chance of below normal precip and above normal temps for the desert southwest including Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque, El Paso, Amarillo, Yuma, and Lubbock TX"

Which leads me to believe the much vaunted NOAA indicators must have been off or something has changed.

But with the level of distrust based on being intentionally led astray by other government institutions.. who is to say what is believable any more to begin with- might be better off watching the Woolie Bear worms band color.
I wonder what a second storm would do to the east coast, and with no strong El Nino in effect we seem to be looking at another spring and summer with drought conditions all across the food growing area of the US..
enjoy this Thanksgiving as though it could be your last.

get this.."Sharrak was locked up back in August 2010 to await sentencing for tax evasion, but health problems and other issues kept him in the jail’s VIP cell — a space previously reserved for former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick among others — all the way through May of this year when he was finally dished a six-year term to be spent at a federal prison in West Virginia. Before then, though, Sharrak reportedly had access to a personal laptop which he used to conduct telephone conversations with colleagues and move money around his accounts"

I am not gonna worry about the other health problems right now. Plenty of time to fret about that!

Clownafornia leads the way in nearly every category when it comes to reinforced insanity..

When you skim off the dross of this stupid idea it becomes evident the politicians have merely traded their own constituents human misery for the illusion of saving money.

Forcing the Dept. of Corrections to release these turds early has resulted in exactly what we told them it would.

They are merely buying time and endangering the public with these ill advised edicts.
The bullet train from nowhere to nowhere is an idea who's time has come behind the fruit curtain- it might represent the best hope for those morons only because their other ideas are even more ridiculous.

Rick Kepple said...

"When you skim off the dross of this stupid idea it becomes evident the politicians have merely traded their own constituents human misery for the illusion of saving money."

Put violent offenders in jail or prison. Make the nonviolent criminals wear ankle bracelets, prisoners in their own homes, working a job, only going to the store, offer them online college courses, no porno, no chat rooms, no fun. TV channels are basic only. They must pay for their OWN ankle bracelet then surrender it when they have served their time.

The cost savings would be enormous. But our civilization is primitive and based on money making. Our species is still very much monkeys addicted to shiny rocks and living in a tribal setting.

What's horrible is that politicians aren't intelligent people, but merely look pretty enough to win a popularity contest. Our lives are being run by brainless boobs and you wonder why Obama apologized for our being attacked. You name any politician, except Ron Paul, and they're probably willing to take your suggestions, because they got no brains.

Rick Kepple said...

"I use Chrome exclusively. I haven't used IE in a while."

I suspect that Chrome needs a faster Internet speed and where I live, online speeds are pretty slow. So Nick, Dale and I are considering the facets of places like Denver for the faster speeds, but like Middy pointed out - a higher crime rate.

Nick is going to handle the music side of the company and we're considering mixing songs from musicians emailing tracks to him from all over the world. I'm considering what we could produce with video and Dale just needs to keep everything running. He said we can set up all the computers on a network to work together.

I don't understand IE compared to Chrome, much less all that network stuff. No, he's not talking about a Cloud, which costs money.

Basically, I'm thinking to use the expertise from us three, maybe more, and to still create jobs (ours) and it requires a tad bit of micromanaging and a bunch of macromanaging!

midnightsstaff said...

I gotta hand it to you, your expertise on computers is comparable to your knowledge of human nature and controlling criminal behavior.

Of course one immediate solution to aggressively lower crime statistics is to do away with law- and Clownafornia is doing the next best thing to that.
It stands to reason that if there are no rules- there are no rule breakers.

http://westvalleyview.com/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=190&ArticleID=43503

But with a min. of skeptic driven investigation another explanation becomes evident.

http://www.technologyreview.com/news/428935/once-mighty-suntech-struggles-to-survive/

.." In many ways, Suntech is suffering from the stifling market conditions it helped create. To achieve greater scale, it borrowed heavily and rapidly expanded production to lower solar panel costs and keep pace with competitors (see "The Chinese Solar Machine"). But now, the market is flooded with panels, and the leading Chinese solar manufacturers are overextended financially.
It's created a situation where even the most technically advanced and established companies are operating at a loss"

..Just reinforces my opinion that if an idea is sound it doesn't need a subsidy.
