"IF YOU'VE GOT A BUSINESS; YOU DIDN'T BUILD THAT"

Edward Klein’s bestselling book on Obama is called The Amateur.  I have purchased it but have not read it yet although after the events of the past week, I can’t think of a better title for a book about Obama.

The cracks are starting to show on this president as evidenced by his unfortunate words of last week (unfortunate for him; great for most of us).  By now we know them by heart:  “If you’ve got a business; you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen.”

I wonder how my friend Bob Wilson feels about those words.  Bob is a guy who has busted his butt for more than a few years building a single Subway franchise into a six store chain.  Bob knows all about long hours and sweat and toil to get his small business going.  I’m sure he and many like him in this country have contempt for words like “you didn’t build that; somebody else made that happen.”  Gee; do you think the prez might be referring to his beloved union members as the straw that stirs the drink?

Obama is a guy who couldn’t survive without a teleprompter.  Maybe that is why we rarely hear him speak without the use of one.  In the case of the above comment, it was said on a rainy day in Virginia and perhaps the prompter shorted out and he had to assume the role of the emperor who had no clothes. 

When will I learn?
Adlibbing is not a strong suit for the prez.  We have heard him try it a few times and when he speaks it reinforces our belief about why he keeps his supposed college records and everything else about his past sealed tightly.

As predicted, Obama came back with a denial that he made such a statement but the proof is in the video.  It doesn’t matter how many times he denies it, it is etched in the recording and in the minds of millions of angry small business owners in this country.  It’s just another example of why Klein refers to him as an amateur.

I agree with Michael Barone of the Washington Examiner:  “High earners don’t deserve the money they make,” Obama apparently thinks.  “It’s the gift of government, and they shouldn’t begrudge handing more of it back to government.”  There’s more:  He told Charles Gibson of ABC News in 2008 that “even if those higher tax rates produce less revenue for the government….the government should take away more money (from the rich) as a matter of ‘fairness’ “.   Spoken like a true socialist.

That’s your president speaking folks so if you happen to have worked hard and are enjoying your spoils, you better start putting your money in coffee cans and burying them before big sis Janet Napolitano comes knocking on your door.  Remember her?  She’s the one who fears that veterans of this country’s military could be terrorist threats.  It’s a hell of a way to say “Thank you for your service, sir!”  That’s the kind of mentality we have to deal with under this administration.

One last comment:  In his ill fated Virginia remarks, Obama also mentioned that “There are a lot of wealthy, successful, Americans who agree with me because they want to give something back.”  It was another reference to his justification of taxing the rich with higher rates. So, (yawn), what’s new?

Anyway, as a public service I am going to help poor Barack get more money from those rich people he mentioned that want to “give something back.”  I assume he is referring to his entertainment business phony friends who in reality are some of the biggest tax dodgers in the country.

I read the book it graphically paints the portrait of an ambitious, extremely narcissistic, politician who because of his race and charisma was able to fashioned himself into a fictional, made for TV, "The Candidate" like character, who had "The Look", and said all the right things no matter his real belief.

In spite of his disastrous performance, suckers will vote for him because he promises, Chicago style, to give them something for nothing, dividing the country by race, gender, sexual orientation, offering each a "bribe" (repeal DADT)(war on women)(Dream Act)(suing any state that tries to do something about ILLEGAL immigration), instead of pushing programs to help ALL Americans aka our country as a whole...

Good to see you back; I hope your recuperation went well.

I loved "The Candidate" as it starred a typical Hollywood phony (Robert Redford) playing a total dummy who got by on his looks and charisma but was dumb as a post.

That film was made in 1972 but sure translates to what we have today. Fortunately, a lot of people are realizing what a mistake Obama is.

While he will always have his followers standing in line for the free stuff provided by the producers, I think we have enough intelligent people left in this country who realize the guy was a mistake and will vote accordingly in November.

Lord help us if I am wrong.

Wow, Jim. I know you hate Obama, but you must be getting very desperate about Romney’s chances if you are relying on this quote. You (and Romney) are taking this entirely out of context. Yes, I know, both parties do it (i.e. when Romney said I like to fire people), but doesn’t give YOU license to spew this BS.

I also know why Romney is doing it because he is desperate to get the public’s focus off his tax returns. If you really want to help Romney, convince him to release his tax returns. This issue, alone, could destroy his campaign if he does not do so. I thought the McCain 2008 campaign was a joke; however Romney’s 2012 campaign could set a whole new record for unmitigated disasters when it comes to presidential campaigns. (And don’t even get me started about how McCain said Sarah Palin was a better VP candidate than Romney - even Hollywood can’t come up with stuff this good).

And teleprompters? You have to be kidding. Yes, Obama uses one but so does Romney (as do most major politicians any more). At least Obama knows how to use one, unlike Romney who spoke the words “end of quote” after using a Martin Luther King quote in his speech to the NAACP. Just watch, when it comes to the debates (if Romney doesn’t chicken out), Obama will clean Romney’s clock. If you are going to criticize Obama, use something that has some merit, not something that is a provably false smear tactic.

I guess it is not a good time to be a GOPer or Tea Partier, having to support the likes of Romney, who simply cannot connect to middle class America no matter what he does. Talk about the gang who couldn’t shoot straight! To quote Bugs Bunny (and I’m giving away my age here), “What a bunch of maroons”!

I like you buddy, but you are wrong about Obama losing in November and even the Lord won't be able to help you on this one.

Well, AHG, it appears you either cant read well, or you suffer the same mental difficulties of your god (note the small g) Obama in comprehension.
Romney said, "...I like being able to fire those who provide services to me..." specifically targeting insurance companies who fail to keep their promises of services offerred to clients.
Romney continued by saying that his firing of a service vendor permitted him to hire the same service from another vendor.
Comprehension and honesty is a virtue you might like to investigate and learn to use, AHG.

As to his tax returns, perhaps you have an opinion relative the the refusal of Obama in releasing the holds he has on his birth certificate and his school records, among other documents which are commonly available from all past Presidents...many of us would appreciate your wisdom on this issue...especially if it is as revealing as your comment about Romney and his ability to fire non-complying service vendors.

Well, Sam, you are in fine form today. In response to your digs about reading comprehension, may I suggest that it is YOU who has the problem. Please go back and read my first paragraph - SLOWLY. Maybe then you will see the point I made about the Romney quote. In case you are still too slow to get it, the point was that the Romney quote was also taken out of context.

As far as you being an avowed birther, there is nothing I can do about that problem - you are probably beyond help if you still believe this is an issue. At least Arpaio is using it as a deflection for his election campaign and the federal lawsuit now going on. What's your excuse?

I happen to agree with Obama on this point even tho this is the first that I have heard those words coming from him. I told you that last week at lunch when I said: I DO NOT BELIEVE IN A JOB CREATOR ... And, if you remember correctly, you quickly shut my discussion down with a hard right turn onto Political Dr while I had taken a vow of chastity for the afternoon (I mean I had planned NOT to get into any heated political arguments) ... Altho, now that you mention it, I am kinda wondering if DG didn't get where I was coming from because he mentioned something we had discussed over a year ago shortly afterward.

Here is the gist of my idea: JOBS ARE NOT CREATED OUT OF THIN AIR. By jobs I mean opportunities to work & to either produce or serve something in exchange for, at very least, enough money to pay your own way in the world. As long as need &/or demand for something-some good or some service-exists, there will be a job for some person to fill with their own labor. The only real question nowadays is: WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THAT GONNA HAPPEN? And WHERE ARE THOSE JOBS WHEN WE NEED THEM?

BUSINESSES EXIST TO GENERATE PROFIT for somebody somewhere. At least that is how it works nowadays. Gone are the days when BS existed to keep people busy & productive...I think it has something to do with mixing up the concepts of work & ownership.

Oh, yeah, some businessmen actually still do get their hands dirty, & god bless them for that, but this is the big picture. In todays global economy, though, that all too rarely equals enough local jobs to provide for the needs of the American people. So, sometimes, government must step in to force the issue.

JOBS DO NOT JUST POP OUT OF A VACUUM (the kind that nature abhors anyway)...Now before this turns into some kind of manifesto:

I do not believe that government creates jobs either. But here's what else that I heard Obama say: "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads & bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The internet didn't get created on its own. Government researched & created the internet so that all the companies could make money off the internet. The point is that, when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative but also because we do things together..."

Now, I think what he was trying to say is along these lines: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — [especially this next part->] That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..." Altho he didn't say it quite so eloquently. But, nowadays, we have a small percentage of "Men" using government simply to help build their own nests while refusing to give anything back or even acknowledge the help that they have had since the day they were born.

Yeah, there I go again citing our founding documents & expressed principles again in support of American ideals!

Right or wrong, the quote by Obama got a lot of hard working small businessmen very upset. If that is what it takes to help get rid of this guy, I hope it works.

How do you feel about BO's quote from 2008 that the rich should have higher tax rates even if it doesn't mean more revenue? He simply hates rich people; he may as well say it since that statement of his is ridiculous.

Now he encourages food stamps, panders to illegal immigrants, makes that stupid Trayvon quote about how his son would look like Trayvon. He is a specialist in class warfare since that is all he has left in his talking points.

As an educated guy, I'm surprised you fall for that stuff. Do you really believe those who have the most have an obligation to hand it over to Washington so those who work can support those who won't work? Since when has it become a crime to work hard and get rich?

Plus, How the hell much more does he want when the rich already are paying far more than any other group in taxes.

Sure they all use teleprompters but some can still speak when the prompter shuts down. Obama can't; he is one of the worst public speakers I have heard.

It's going to be about the economy and the polls are leaning to Romney now. With 3 1/2 months to go and a gloomy forecast, it should help Romney. Voters are tired of this overbearing government with its thousands of overpaid bureaucrats and unions.

There is a word limit from what I hear so I can see where your "War and Peace" length statements can sometimes be cut off. LOL Just needling you a bit.

I thought we covered the job creation question on the last weblog.

What we need is smaller government to handle just the necessities. Even Obama and Elizabeth Warren (running for the Senate) agree that the following are what would be considered essential government expenses.

Department of Defense 18.74%
Department of Transportation 2.05%
Department of Education 1.32%
Department of Homeland Security 1.21%
Department of Justice 0.67%
National Science Foundation 0.20%

TOTAL: 23.4%

And that, of course, is being absurdly generous to the Obama position, since in reality huge portions of the defense budget, the Department of Education budget, and so on, have basically nothing to do with promoting public safety or educating workers. And let’s be even more generous and round that 23.4% up to 25%, or one-fourth of the budget.

So what Obama and Warren are really stating is this:

Only one-fourth of your federal tax dollars go to projects and programs that benefit the general public and entrepreneurs; the other three-fourths are essentially a complete waste, or are at best optional.

Are you ready for the happy news? If we stick to Obama and Warren’s “essentials only” budget, we can eliminate all taxes for 99% of Americans, and even lower taxes for the top 1%, and still have enough to pay for defense, transportation, public safety, education and all the rest. How? Because the top 1% of all taxpayers — the wealthy elite businesspeople who benefit from roads and schools and firefighters — pay about 37% of all federal taxes, far more than enough to cover the essentials, plus interest on the debt and plenty of extras besides.

Hell of a deal!

Every sane person must be able to see that government,(both parties, over generations) is completely addicted to spending. There will never, ever be anywhere near enough tax money raised to begin to satisfy their wish list of well intentioned (as well as good ol boy, graft)programs. We read story after story of tax money wasted on ridiculous things like treadmills for shrimp, researching Russian hookers sex habits, and how the GAO is unable to figure out where $200 BILLION stimulus dollars went. Raising taxes, which means taking money from people who earned it,and would spend it wisely, and handing it to people with a proven track record of losing or bungling it should be something all agree makes NO sense. The latest Obama class warfare stunt "TAX THOSE OVER $250k" would bring in enough money to satisfy governments current appetite for just EIGHT SHORT DAYS, it will do diddly to help the country and amounts to a cheap political stunt to turn the "us" against "them". I'm sure it works on the weaker minded among us (Democrats)

yeah probably not a great day to lock horns with me, in decades of construction I was still waiting to make that first unemployment application and still am.
I never did go down to apply for free money even when it took a while to find another job, I simply couldn't afford time away from walking construction site after site looking for anything available.. and it was persistence that paid off.

same thing when I decided to change careers.

There are lots of winners in life and lots of losers, it's up to each to find out which they are more comfortable as.

I could tell instantly when I heard his comment "you did not build that" that he was off prompter.

You worked hard while you were still working & I do not begrudge you a single penny you were paid for the work you did. But the way you insist on belittling all of my experience & my years of hard work is getting very, very old.

Sure enough, although I didn't manage to land the job, I applied for one that was similar to what you described & finally got told just the other day that they hired somebody "more qualified". And that what I keep hearing. Over & over & over again. Whether I stand in line in 110+ heat for hours on end or not ... feeling completely overdressed while staring at the bra straps & thongs & tattoos of 100s of people in front of me ... just to apply for a job & be told that they found someone from that line better suited for the job ... WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU DID THAT? That's what I asked you, asshole.

CJ, in this Obama economy it's tough finding a job. I've been retired for 10 years and don't have to worry about it anymore but I really hope you can find a job that you like and it pays well.

Taxing those making over $250k is just another pandering for votes from the sub 250 club which is the group Obama depends on. He knows that has no chance but he wants it on the record that he said it.

He is always complaining about the plight of the middle class. If he would leave them alone, I'm sure most of them would be better off. When he starts screwing the rich entrepreneurs who provide the jobs, it's the middle class who will suffer when the owners have to lay off people to make payroll.

Too many people are conned into the "government should provide more and better jobs" mentality as John Stossel reports. "Why would anyone think that government is capable of giving them a 'better job?'"

It's free enterprise that has the jobs and if left alone can be more prosperous for everyone especially over a tax spending oversized bunch of bureaucrats in Washington.

I think one of the funniest things is when he has to speak without the words typed in front of him. He sounds like a stuttering version of Redd Foxx doing the 3:00 a.m. show at the old Hacienda Hotel in Vegas.

The difference is Foxx had talent and was funny. Obama is just pitiful.

Here's a pretty good take on the gun ban issue, of course any reasonable person realizes that any confiscation by government leads to underground supplies being made available.

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democrat Party.

Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 &2011.
In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.

And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009.

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.

There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

Jim, No, we have never settled on anything. I just get tired of shouting into the wind around here & end up walking away. So you think that arguing about which government departments are essential & how much each should be allotted for spending is really going to bring our jobs back? Yeah, I don't think so. I actually believe that all that will do, IF successful & implemented (big IF), is put a lot more over-educated people on the streets looking for work in a market that is already flooded with people looking for work. That would be great for employers but it is never, never, never ... going to produce enough jobs to go around. Great for employers because then they can throw out reams of resumes without even looking at them ... Shoot, that's how it already is.

I am tired of fighting again. See how that works? I tell you about my current experiences & you tell me your ideas about cutting back on government & how that theoretically will "create" jobs out of thin air based what some guys with more money than you'll ever have tell you to think , then I get frustrated & drop the subject (at least temporarily) ... Pretty nifty arrangement you got going.

You can sprout all the whimsical ideas you want. All I know is that I have to keep on treading water somehow, someway ... Until my lucky break finally floats by close enough for me to grab. Yeah, that's right, I think that there is luck involved. Even for me. And it isn't because I am not a hard worker either. It is simply because there are too many people out in dark waters with me these days.

Sorry, but I really believe that if government wasn't so bloated and top heavy with regulations, there would be a lot more jobs in the private sector. Companies are sitting on millions waiting to see if we can get rid of Obama before they attempt to expand.

I know that you haven't worked for a long time and are frustrated. At lunch you mentioned that you can't take a $9 per hour job. Why not? Doesn't that beat 0$ per hour? You might even get in a position with a job like that to advance and make more. If I was you, I would consider that.

So I just looked it up: GW Bush initiated tax cuts in 2001, 2002, & 2003. Then I got laid off from my job in 2004 because the place had been struggling since 2001 (around the time of 9/11) ... Of course, they later asked me back. That was because the hotshot that they tried to replace me with -- yeah, they actually needed the work that I did but this guy had the production manager convinced that he was some kinda wizard & I shouldn't have to tell you how that one worked out -- screwed the place up. But then the shop finally sold. Just in the nick of time too because, shortly thereafter, in 2008 I was laid off again. "Just business, nothing personal," is what I was told that time.

So here's my point, Jim: WHEN ARE ALL THOSE TAX CUTS THAT HAVE ALREADY OCCURRED GONNA START WORKING THE WAY YOU KEEP SAYING THEY WILL?

And, regarding defense budget cuts, I was in Cali in 1992 when the first Bush cut nearly all of the local defense contracts and McDonald Douglas, among others, started a massive wave of lay offs. Then the place I was working closed its doors because of the effect those lay offs had all across the board & I couldn't find another job to save my life. So I came back home. The job I found here is were I remained for 11 yrs. Until my first lay off, that is ...

So I have stated my evidence from personal experience & I tell you what: I have never seen a lick of evidence to refute it. Not real evidence anyway. Just a bunch of highfalutin rhetoric & promises from politicians, who are in the pockets of BIG BS to begin with, plus more of the same repeated by some of my conservative buddies ... BUT it also stands to reason. I mean, what makes you think that some bigwig corporation is going to start suddenly employing people when so much of public is penniless because they do not have enough opportunity to work & that very same public just happens to be the consumers that these companies need to thrive?

I believe that I said something like a $9.00 an hour PART TIME job, Jim, and all that I meant by that is the fact that it won't pay my bills. Nor would it provide me with any health insurance meaning, basically, I would not be able to pay for a doctor either. But, rest assured, I am applying for every position I see open that I can even remotely qualify for. Even part time minimum wage positions. And, let me just tell you, being rejected for that kind of work is beginning to become depressing ... Which probably explains some of the anger in my words sometimes because I am not one of those people that stay down for long. I always pop back up & when I keep getting kicked down again, it makes me mad.

However, the figures are clouded re: the private sector.

President Bush helped to create 913,000 private sector jobs until the 2008 collapsed that caused a giant sucking noise from private companies to the tune of about two million jobs lost! So you see, Obama started in the negative after Bush neglected the economy during his term. So you see, Obama has actually added two million, thirty five thousand jobs to the private sector.

The Daily Beast reports a staggering number that the Republicans are actually piss poor at creating jobs.

Republican Presidents: 7.1 Public sector jobs. Democrat Presidents: 6.3 Public sector jobs. So the Republicans are NOT against Big Government. They CREATE big government.

Private Sector jobs? Republicans: 24 million jobs. Democrats: 42 million jobs.

If you're self employed, you have to show your tax returns to even buy a car! If you're self-employed, you have to show how much money you made to get a loan to build your business!

Apparently, Mitt Romney feels that being President is less important than buying a car, so he doesn't have to disclose how much money he made or lost due to his decision making.

But maybe I'm being unfair. Maybe we should just check is FICO score, but Romney isn't disclosing that either.

If you want a job in the United States, they check your FICO score. But apparently, running for President doesn't require having a good reputation for good decision making. You need a good FICO score to work in middle management, but not President.

I guess it matters more where you were born than if you paid your taxes to be President. But let's look at the bright side.

If Romney is elected, we don't have to pay taxes anymore!

As I said above, businesses are biding their time until the election. It's an unhealthy situation now: Obama hates the rich and successful and they hate him and his class warfare. That doesn't make for a congenial business atmosphere.

As far as jobs, I told you years ago to apply at Safeway as they were hiring. If you had done that you probably would be making about $13 an hour now; much better than zero.

I have applied at Safeway, Jim. Fry's & Bashas too. I never even receive so much as a call back from those sources & if you go into the store & ask about it, as I have, management just points your way to the electronic kiosk at the front of the store. I also applied at CircleK -- you have to apply online there too -- and that's where I did manage to get an interview, just to be told that they found someone better than me for the job(s) from a line of 100s of mangy people.

Like I have said over & over, I am applying for everything, Jim, but I see that you are still trying a way to turn this all around on me. Life is good in my house right now despite that though: I just made a big old pot of Okie egg noodles the way I was taught by my great grandma -- just eggs & flour & a little salt, plus a rolling pin -- so there is nothing you can say that is going to ruin my day. As long as I have a couple eggs, a little flour, a rolling pin & a pot, I will be okay. If I lose the house, though, I may have to move up north near Pinetop ... He also promises us a Civil War between races and a larger and more invasive Homeland Security, drones watching your every movement, getting rid of guns in the hands of the lawful, and these are not empty promises.. he is a very vengeful bastard.

It will take the same feeling as it did in 2008 when small business realized in late August that Juan McLooser was not going to run any kind of effective campaign, small business went into survival mode.
That meant letting people go, looking to streamline- use robotics and whatever it took to get past The Terror.

Same thing in reverse will happen once Small Business realizes they have a chance.. biggest problem is peaking too early and giving the breath of life to Satan and allowing the press to claim his method is finally working, once again catering to the feeble minded- are you still with me Rick?

I was fortunate, or as you called it lucky on a blog, to go to work at the phone company at 20 years old and retire at 50.

I did have my share of misery when my first wife filed for divorce. I had to to give her the money for half of the house and pay child support for 16 years. When all was said and done it cost me over a $100,00.

I hope you can find a job that pays well and you enjoy.

Barb started at $10.20 hr. in 2000 (part time) at Safeway and when she left in 2009 she was making $15.75.

She had full medical from her union the entire time at no cost and now receives a pension of just under $300 month.

Unfortunately, there have been a couple new contracts since she started and pay is a bit lower.

It was a good deal as she worked close to home and worked for some good managers.

Looks like the market is taking one today, nothing unusual about that except it looks like they can't prop up Spain any longer and are getting ready to cut Greece off the euro.. the noose draws tighter and tighter with less chance of true remedy..

We are watching history being made, even in the deepest point of the Great Depression ten year bond rates have never been this low- lots of pawns in this game for sure and most have no idea the implications things like this have in their lives...

What's even worse is the Nasdaq is leading the charge down- that index is filled with tech. business which are the leading indicators for expansion, in short we are sitting ourselves up for a real downturn that probably will make 2008 look like a bull market.

Yeah, did you see Mitt Romney's tax forms? Holy crap! I couldn't imagine what SN files, since she travels so much.

I just read a story about insurance companies paying out millions of dollars in crop loss claims. First, we have an economy as bad as the Great Depression and now we're having the Dust Bowl. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is categorizing this phenomenon the worst in 50 years!

IF THE DROUGHT STOPPED NOW, we will have about 30 percent of the food left in the fields. A 70 percent crop loss. But not much rain in the next 10 days.

I might be able to build a greenhouse to trap the moisture and grow some plants if this drought continues, but we could be looking at food shortages in the cities. Massive tree die offs.

Collecting firearms? Told you dude. Some people will trade their guns for a block of cheese in a food shortage.

I can see why Bush gave bailouts to rich folks now. They couldn't hunt or survive like me. Hey, SN can still visit if things get bad. I'd help her and CN for her parents. They'd want them watched over.

Funny my mom had meat and milk ration books from the war years, and afterward lots of guys came home to a manufacturing base in the midst of switching from building tanks to autos and most just went back to their farms or to school like my dad did.

Na... the war didn't end the Depression in fact it was only after the industrial base was restructured and GNP went from primarily war effort production to goods and services we started seeing any improvement to the average Joe on the street.

..basically the democrats were replaced with real Republicans who actually did cut spending and that's what finally killed the last Depression.

It's impossible for government spending to claw us out of a recession.

Think about it, government doesn't produce anything, it has to have a larger than it's own sized producer of real GNP to use as a tax farm, that's the problem now -the government is too big for the private sector to fund.

So ya see if the government is on top of bleeding the producers with their various bureaucracies actually burning up a lot of gunpowder and bombing goat farmers out of the 15th. century back to the stone age that all costs us money we don't have.

The Cloward Piven strategy is working for Obama now, he is using up as much DOD money as he can as part of his plan to destroy this nation.

Well, I have been saying that the war would start in Arizona and spread to California, but maybe it's gonna start in Cali instead. They'll have to use tree limbs since legislators are so scared of an armed population.

Missouri legislators are considering a bill to make the confiscation of firearms illegal.

A business owner told me yesterday with seething contempt that he's not voting for Romney after his wife said that they were not releasing their tax returns. They did, but it seriously pissed off the middle class, I think. Romney couldn't win a dance contest at this point. I don't care what the polls say about Obama.

Unless Romney grows some humility soon, he's gonna snob himself right out of the election.

Yup, I should have known better than to use an example that Jim used -- in my own defense, I did look it up first, but all I saw was solar energy so I obviously did not dig deep enough -- because I should know that his examples were be the worse possible case scenarios.

To whom should it "make sense" Jim? To you? Why? In other words, based on whose authority? Or to put it even plainer, who died and left you with an even greater authority than even the US Government? Now do not make me quote our founding documents again regarding why governments are instituted & by whom ... BUT let me just say this: For a government of free people to continue to exist, it must consider the greater good of future generations too &, while you do not exactly have any skin in this game, I recently became a grandmother so now I feel like I do have a stake in future generations & their well being. There's no tell why Middy & John act like they do sometimes, since I believe they both have grandkids, so I am not going to worry about it.

John was much nicer about it this time but I still disagree with the premise that nothing but oil will ever do & that any alternative source of power must be completely developed & full-effective without any help from government or we the people who stand to benefit from its development. But I should add this: if you want to bring those costs back into the ballpark, cut out the contracts & contractors that suck the majority of money from the project from the top.

One last thing: I wasn't necessarily suggesting that this is strictly an age related thing (as buzz suggested). This has more to do with a resistance to adapt to one's changing environment. That's why I mentioned a print shop up there.

BTW, guess who invented modern air conditioning? Yep. But government would have run the lines to supply the power to it ... And even the idea of electricity had to be shoved down our throat back then.

Yes, Jim, and he did so in order to help printing production. The trick was taking moisture out of the air instead of adding it like evaporation cooling. High humidity wreaks havoc on sheet fed presses as well as ink drying times. So you have printing to thank for your comfy home & car, among other things.

The interstate highway system was built by private engineering firms not the government.

Nuclear, coal and natural gas is produced not by government but by private engineering firms like Bechtel, GE, Westinghouse or other private engineering firms.

Our border security is provided by the government...

The only thing government can do is regulate projects and then threaten to prevent them from ever being built, just to assure we do not build them.

That's what Obama just did with Canadian oil which now is destined for China instead of Oklahoma or Alaskan oil that should be delivered instead of not used, with his aggressive attitude against America he has condemned us to having to import from Mexico or Venezuela until we can tap our own resources..

What about that Trabant you drive around beating the bushes for any job available, was it built by government?- was the home you live in built by government?- that's called section eight housing..

Personally I would push for conversion to nat. gas, thousands of jobs in drilling, piping, car truck, equip. conversions, even manufacturing home equip. so you could fill up at home, could be created, our dependence on foreign oil lessened, and a secure and lasting source of energy would be established to buy time until some alternative (in my view,more likely hydrogen)to gas/oil is developed and cost effective.

In December of 2006, 12 of us who applied were chosen and he was not among us.

At our first meeting, the magic 12 were all pumped to write blogs and have a good time with it. However,
most of them never wrote anything and were removed from the list.

In June of 2007, Bodo called me and asked about becoming a blogger. I told him to call Robert Leger at the Republic which he did. Leger put him on simply because most of the other bloggers had all quit other than Bob Amento and me.

Besides I kind of take offense at that remark about our brave president, there really isn't much else about the guy except for his choom gang days that makes me feel like he is even human, much less likeable..

..think about it- how many dollars spent to seal all records from that phony birth certificate to his days at Columbia including what would be normal friends other than terrorists and slimy Chicago criminal element..

And like the Clintons, a trail of mysterious deaths to people with intimate knowledge of his bath house antics, cocaine use and marxist involvement..

It's amazing how much that prompter means to him.

A couple years ago he was speaking to kids in a kindergarten or 1st grade class and he is using the damned prompter along with the security shields and everything else for such a visit. Comical stuff.

Those kids had no idea who he was nor did they give a damn about what he said.

I realize hat everyone is on Twitter but I have no use for it. I'm tired of hearing how some dumb ass athlete who can't spell his own name just told his 20 million "followers" about his new ridiculous contract.

It's a good thing Twitter doesn't require correct spelling or it would have been out of business a long time ago.

Jim, I kinda miss old Bodo. He was always good for a laugh or two especially when the subject of guns came up. He was an anti-gun liberal and didn't think anyone should own guns.

I asked him once what he would do if he was being mugged or carjacked and he said he would run away. This coming from a guy in his late 70's.

Jim, I'll be meeting Bodo on Monday. I appreciate CJ for her opinion. She often speaks the truth and she speaks from her heart. That's what I like best about CJ. I may not agree with her, but I can always count on her honest opinion.

I said that rain would begin about August 4. So the National Weather Service changed the forecast.

For the first time in history, the Oregon House of Representatives are equally split. They have house co-speakers and no majority and no minority speaker.

What Middy failed to note in his rant is that the guy going to jail for collecting rainwater, violated a 1925 law. It's 2012. I think most legislators who wrote the 1925 law are dead.

The 1925 law says that streams running into rivers belong to the people of Oregon and can't be diverted.

However, I can understand Middy's anger, since there are lawmakers, even in Missouri, wanting to put meters on farm wells. I would imagine this enforcement of a 1925 law has more with eventually charging for collected rainwater by anyone. And as Oregon proves, it's both Democrats and Republicans doing this.

I don't care much for the food at Chick fil-a but I support them. They own the business and can do what the hell they want.

If people want to be gay that is fine with me as long as I don't have to participate. But, they are not yet in the mainstream and for them to stage boycotts of companies who disagree with their lifestyle is silly.

I think Chick's business will now increase with extra support they get from the non gay community.

The guy in Oregon says the water is strictly from rainwater runoff and snow melt and that he hasn't diverted any streams. I believe him. Even in AZ where rain usually evaporates before it hits the ground, we occasionally see runoff ponds during the monsoon.

It's just more liberal government bullshit nonsense. I hope the guy gets a good lawyer.

One of the ponds has been there 37 years! What took them so long? They must have found out the guy is a Republican!
