MISCELLANEOUS RAMBLINGS.......

This 30 second commercial from BMW is one of the best I have seen.  It's cute, different, and easily gets the point across in two words without the usual mind numbing oratory of most car commercials.  It's a nice example of how less is more.

Have you been to McDonald's lately? Either have I but there was a time when they were a dependable place to eat for a small amount of money.  In my case I refer to my years in the USAF in the early 1960's when my buddies and I were looking to spend more on partying than on food.  My standard order cost 60 cents.  (2 burgers, fries, shake.) Try getting by on that today.

(Tim Boyle, Getty Images) 1962 McDonald's
Although the name "James Harrison" may evoke some bitter memories in Phoenix because because of his 100 yard touchdown interception of a Kurt Warner pass in Super Bowl XLIII, I admire the guy for his outlook on kids receiving trophies for simply participating in various sporting events.  Harrison believes trophies should be earned, not just handed out for showing up.

We live in a "feel good" society where a lot of parents think there should be rewards for doing nothing and that eliminating such awards may cause a lack of self esteem. Perhaps, but to me it is a good example of how life really is; they will hopefully get over it. Coincidentally, former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner agrees with Harrison and he is the guy who threw the pass that Harrison returned for the Super Bowl touchdown.

Who would have thought?  Columnist Froma Harrop reports that the so called "Millenials" (those who are 14 to 31 years of age) are not drawn to the allure of  the automobile!  Does that mean that they have no idea what a GTO or a Little Deuce Coupe are?  I'm not surprised as the ones in that age group seem more interested in iPhones, texting, and living in cramped downtown apartments than they are in tooling to the drive-in with the top down on a warm summer night. I think the times will change as the young tend to be fickle and are always antsy to try the next fad.  After all, a guy can only send messages on an iPhone while taking a girl to a drive-in (if you can find a drive in!) can be a much more enjoyable experience; especially if you insert a Jan and Dean CD into the player!

My most important jobs.  I don't believe I could list in this space ALL the jobs I have ever had. However, I have been fortunate to have had jobs that taught lessons in life and others that paid well. The best example of the former is the four year hitch I did in the United States Air Force.  I grew up in the era where guys had to serve a minimum of two years in the military service of the U. S.  Very few were exempt; even Elvis and Willie Mays had to serve and they did. Unfortunately, the draft was discontinued after 1973 thus ending a life altering experience that did a lot of guys a lot of good; me included.

As far as jobs that paid well, I have been lucky enough to have been born with the ability to speak decently and convince people that they should buy stuff from me. I was paid commissions on what I sold so I did well in that career.  I advise any wannabe salesmen to never take a salaried sales job. If you do it's like saying you have no confidence in your sales ability and you will never make as much money as you could on commission.

Will Rogers quote of the day:  "Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment."

I too, spent 4 years in the AF (a bit before your stint), the last 2&1/2 of which were spent in Germany monitoring/analyzing the radio-telephone transmissions of the East Bloc AF's - most particularly, the Czechs.
8 hrs/dayshift for a week, 72hrs off, 8hrs/nightshift for a week, 48hrs off, 8hrs/midnightshift for a week, then 72hrs off.
Then repeat eroutine, for 30 months. I got lucky. I joined assuming I was going to Korea ('52)but lucked out and went the other way.
I was lucky with the German assignment because I'm sure I would've otherwise flunked German later, in college.

During my years of heading up a corporate (utility) purchasing function, no sales rep ever influenced one of our decisions. For example, we never bought a spare part for a GE turbine from that glib Westinghouse fellow. Perhaps that’s why they were both salaried.

In my early days, I turned down a chance to be a commissioned insurance salesman despite having scored very high in their aptitude test. I lacked the self confidence needed, as my wife and I were trying to raise six kids under the age of nine at the time. It’s easier to be a risk taker when you have fewer mouths to feed

Hi Len,

Thanks for the comment.

Yes, the military is something that is impossible to understand for those who have never served.

Initially most of us felt like "What the hell am I doing here?" But, as you mention, we do learn a lot from the experience and I think we are better off for it. Very true about the vocabulary!

Dux,

You went in about ten years ahead of me; I was 1961-65. Sounds like you had some tough hours but at least you avoided Korea. Chow halls, fatigues, and Jeeps. The "good old days!"

Thanks for the comment.

Jim McAllister said...

Hi Joe,

I can see your point on staying away from commission selling with 6 kids under age 9. Not a situation where chance taking is advised.

Working on commission sure was a way to be sure I got up in the morning and hit my sales calls. Fortunately it was a good deal for me but it could be risky for some.

Take care; I hope all is well.

One of my friends, a conservative radio talk show host, also owns a string of McDonald's up and down I-44 and I follow him on Facebook. I never call in to his radio show, even though he has so few callers these days. I don't really remember my childhood. I generally just piece information and clues together and make up stories.

Good blog, Jimmy. You always write the happy blogs and it is a welcome escape from the increasing drama.

Thanks, Rick.

You are one of my best customers on the blogs starting back with the Republic almost ten years ago.

McDonald's used to own the fast food burger business but not so much anymore. I can't remember the last time I ate at one or any fast food joint for that matter. I can't believe Jack in the Box with that buttery hamburger. Too rich for me. I loved the old burgers from Mac's like the ones on that menu. 20 cents and worth every penny! The one I went at in KC only had an outside order walk up window. (1962) Drive through wasn't even invented yet.

Unknown said...

Yeah, thanks Jim. I have been a loyal, but difficult customer for many years.

Back in those azcentral days, I was happily living in the forest with a John Deere tractor and a Honda four wheeler with a Browning A-bolt hunting rifle. I had it all. They were days of plenty before the morphine changed everything. All things change. Wealth comes and goes ... mostly going now.

I don't even remember what it was like when times were good anymore. I sometimes go to town, but things are rapidly changing. There are touchscreens in McDonald's and touchscreens in Walmart and it's like Orwell's 1984. Pretty soon, I'll be standing in front of a poster and talking to it like a real friend, because everyone else texts.

I've always said that Mickey D's has the best fries and the best coffee. Consistent food (albeit certainly not as good as in days of yore). However, after eating lunch for the first time last Saturday at Big Earl's Greasy Eats in Cave Creek, they now have a serious fries contender. Oh yeah: their espresso shake is tasteful nirvana.

My most important job? I guess that depends on the definition of the word 'important.' Certainly my jobs in Technologies have built and sustained a great lifestyle, beautiful home, lots of traveling. However, if you define important as being meaningful in some social way, then I would have to say my volunteering with the elderly and disabled since 1999. I have learned so much, especially that these people who need help are grateful for the tiniest show of compassion and care. You can make a difference - a REAL DIFFERENCE - in a person's life with a few hours of time and empathy.

Today I am off to visit one of my elderly friends at her new senior living home. I was a volunteer with her for a few years before she moved last October to California to live with her son and his girlfriend. Didn't work out: she was treated badly (especially by the girlfriend and her pre-teen daughter), so one day she said she wouldn't take it any more, got in her old SUV, and drove hundreds of miles across the desert back to Phoenix and parked herself in a motel. By the way: she's 88 and can barely walk. Luckily, a grown grandson took her in (I would have and told her so), and now she is moved into a 'home.' I am taking new clothes and books and a toaster and stuff to help her out. Her son, by the way, wouldn't send any of her stuff back, and her grandsons had to drive to CA to pick some stuff up. I hope he winds up in the same situation some day.

Hard to deal with? yes, but definitely my most 'important' life job.

Hi Jim, I agree that kids shouldn't get trophies just for participating in sports. The left says if everyone doesn't get a trophy it will hurt their self esteem. To bad. What are these kids going to do when they get out in the real world?

I was never in the military. I was in the 1969 draft but my number was not called. I do have lots of family members that were in the military including my dad and one uncle that were in WW11 and one uncle in the Korean war. My two younger brothers enlisted in the army in the 70's and were sent to Korea as MP's.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

You are definitely a survivor of many years of participating on the blogs.

I'm with you on texting. I never have done it an probably never will. I don't have an iPhone and at this time don't see why I ever will. As I watch people staring at those things 24/7 all I can do is wonder: Why? Then they show ads with people driving from home and controlling the home temperatures, lights, etc. on a phone. Once again, why? Must we have that much control? I work on the computer a lot but I don't think I need to carry around a miniature one all the time.

I was reading a Q. and A. session with a young pitcher (27) on the Diamondbacks this morning and he seemed embarrassed to mention that he never even had a cell phone until he was a sophomore in high school! When I was his age we barely had a home phone.

Bob Dylan was right: "The times they are a-changin'"

Glo,

As always, great to hear from you. I always remember you and Cari being the first females to reply to my Republic blog in 2006.

I haven't been to Mac's in a long time but I have fond memories of them from the late '50s and on. In the summer 1957 at age 16 I had a job as a delivery person in Cincinnati. McDonald's had not been in town long at that time but the word was spreading about how great they were. In those days the menu I posted was it for them and they sold the hell out of that stuff. There was one on each side of town and since I worked the west side I always timed it to be there at lunch time. Those 15 cent burgers were really great. I don't think the term "fast food" had even been invented yet.

By 1961-62 I was in the USAF and always hunted down McDonald's in the KC area where I was stationed. As I mentioned in the blog, 60 cents bought a hell of a meal. Those were fund days: I was thin and all my readings were what they should be when I took a physical. I don't do much fast food today unless its something generic like coffee but I will always have my memories.

I admire your lifestyle. You have a great time and enjoy yourself. Hell, you've worked hard and deserve it plus it's not like you aren't a caring person as that elderly lady you know found out. Bless you for your caring of her.

Take care; stay in touch.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

Too many kids today (I think they call them "Millennials") have been brought up to believe that they are special and everything is rosy, hence, they are awarded with nice shiny trophies just for showing up. They are constantly reminded about how wonderful they are.

Wow! Do those kids ever receive a rude awakening about reality when they get older and find out life is a lot tougher than they were raised to believe.

Harrison and Warner are correct; those kids are going to have some tough times until they get the point that all is not what they expected it to be. I blame a lot of it on the liberal yuppie nonsense that is forced upon kids these days. It has made them soft. However, I guess learning the hard way can have as good an effect on them as knowing about real life earlier.

As far as the military, I think it did a lot of guys a lot of good to get away from home and learn about the real world. Once I was in it was a good experience but that doesn't mean I was anxious to go off to boot camp and get my ass kicked for 8 weeks by some hard ass sergeant! LOL I got some good lessons in life and met a lot of different personalities but probably most important I got the GI Bill when I got out and that really helped when I went back to college. I also got to spend the summer of 1963 in Germany which was a good time for a young single guy.

I have friends who are cops and EMT's and they carry this antidote now for heroin overdoses. There were seven heroin overdoses in the nearby town of Richland, MO this last weekend and more out in the county from a lethal mix of heroin and another drug, not released to the media. A really sweet woman died and they've not released her name, but the pitchforks and torches are selling out. Police saved most of the victims of the laced heroin with that antidote they now carry at all times.

Unknown said...

Yeah, I'm so uncool for not doing heroin.

I'm going to do the bachelor thing and eat at a diner for breakfast, senior discount, and go to McDonald's for lunch (senior discount) and Jen's got a girlfriend now, so I don't have to worry about her anymore.

I looked it up, Jimmy and heroin overdoses are everywhere because they're putting Fentanyl, a painkiller, in with it. My opinions on the subject would be inappropriate and cold hearted. I'm sure that iphone sales are suffering for the loss of customers.

Jim McAllister said...

Jen has a girlfriend?

Unknown said...

Jen's happy, Jim. At least she isn't beating her up. And now I don't have to monetarily help her out and that makes me happy so it works all the way around.

I went by and visited Dell Mack and took him a cheeseburger from McDonalds. I gave him that Lightscribe duplicator and they're making good use of it. I'm trying to fade away! Maybe go fishing in the spring out West. Next fall go elk hunting.

I'm a senior citizen, I think. I would prefer writing for a living, but it is what it is. Hey Jimmy, a friend found a book entitled, "Love After Fifty." He said he opened it up and all the pages were blank!

Mike Slater said...

Jim, our 18 year old grandson graduated from Marine Corps boot camp a few months ago. He described it as 12 weeks of hell but he's a better person for it. He's going into aircraft maintenance. He will be working on the Marine V-22 Osprey.

Love is like sales commissions and a fella can risk enormous amounts of time and money into the investment with the hope of great return, and women tend to choose the products by their appearance. If you don't have that appeal, there is absolutely no profit and the customer goes to the competition. The only thing left to do is find another product that I can believe in.

Gotta roll with the punches, Jimmy. I get up early, start the coffee and go outside to start a campfire and drink my java. You would not believe the peace found with a little bitty campfire and some rocks. The Cherokee believe that prayers go up with the smoke.

Wow! Someone stole the neighbor's woodstove right out of their home last night! Well, my old home, that is. It took three men and a boy to move that 400 pound woodstove into the house years ago. The thieves ignored the expensive things and took the one thing that requires seasonal work. That's not normal thieves who steal things to pawn.

I haven't read the details of the journalists that were shot, but death threats are normal in that business. I've had lots of stalkers and death threats over the years as a freelance writer. At one time, roadblocks were set up by angry citizens who didn't want the Humane Society in the county to have teeth. The courts told me to buy a gun to protect myself. The state police trained me in self defense shooting, even though I was supposed to learn to shoot a handgun in the Army as part of my job as a mechanic. I feel bad for the father of the journalist who got shot, but Gun Control is Voter Control.

Unknown said...

She's a really nice woman, Jimmy. It is a very positive friendship between those two gals and I'm in no hurry to find a girlfriend. Remaining as a single widower has certain advantages.

I might decide to go elk hunting in Colorado and throw my stuff in the Jeep and just go! Or maybe next year, go fishing in Alaska! And I certainly couldn't buy guitars and guns if I had a girlfriend. She'd want a new oven or something girly.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

The pages were blank?! LOL At 74 I'm happy to say there is still writing in my book but I sure need my reading glasses to read it.

I used to love those cheeseburgers from McDonald's. It's been a longtime since I had one. These days I am counting carbs after I found my blood sugar had increased. In the last 5 months I have lost 35 pounds by eating sensibly and got the reading back where it belongs.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

That great about your grandson. He must be a tough guy to survive Marine boot camp. He must like the military to join when it is not compulsory. I met a lot of Marines on bases in the 60s and they were definitely tough characters. One has to be; it's a very demanding branch.

Unknown said...

I know what you mean about counting carbs, Jim. I am trying to keep my weight down to about 250 and I was at 360 pounds years ago when Dora was alive. I buy those packets of Uncle Ben's Ready Rice in packets for a snack that takes 90 seconds in the microwave. Ice cream makes me lazy. I'm in better health when playing Daniel Boone rather than music publicist. Their Facebook numbers are up without me too!

And the video hard drive crashed too and so that's probably a little sign from God to focus on old fashioned ways of tracking game, hunting, fishing and such. I think the sleep apnea might be controlled with proper diet, weight loss and exercise too!

Mike Slater said...

Jim as you know I live in Sun City and get a couple of the local papers. There is a woman by the name of Shirley McAllister that writes columns touting how great Obama is all the time. She's a flaming liberal. I sure hope she's not one of your relatives.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

Luckily I never have heard of her plus I have no relatives left anywhere that I know of. (Whew!) One thing I don't need is a liberal McAllister in the woodpile!

Now I see Obama wants to change the name of Mount McKinley in Alaska to "Denali." Naturally, he is pissing off a lot of people with that stupidity but stupidity is is middle name so I guess it figures.

Unknown said...

Did you ever notice that BO is doing all the dirty work that preceding Presidents didn't want to do? Even from the beginning, I sometimes wondered if he was chosen to do unpopular things that other politicians wanted to do, but couldn't. I'm probably wrong. It's because BO is just good at his job and his popularity. After all, he did nothing and won the Nobel. Just think what he could win if he did something!

I am starting my new life with better quality friends. Guess who has two girls now? It's not me! I am immune to the wiles of women and I joined a gun club to compensate. I switched to being a Republican and my new gun sales have been approved before the ink was dry. Democrats apparently get a hold for further review.

Unknown said...

Oh, and an update. A good friend at the gun club told me that five people a day are overdosing in my county alone. Another old friend died today. People are just dropping dead here, Jimmy. People I never suspected are dying. Or dating dogs.

Mike Slater said...

Jim, Obama is just pandering to minorities like he does all the time. Remember when Nappy changed the name of Squaw Peak? I grew up in the Valley and it will always be Squaw Peak to me. I could care less what the left calls it.

I'm a happy camper college football is back tomorrow on my birthday. It's been a long wait.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

Obama is worthless and is a good example of how this country is going down the drain when an idiot stupid shit like him can get elected two times. Now, I see where some limp wrist senator who is retiring gave him the last vote he needed to approve the Iran deal. It will be regretted as will his attitude toward Cuba, Black Lives Matter and all his other crap.

If I was him I would have a lot of security as a lot of people are REALLY pissed off at him.

I remember the Squaw Peak thing when they changed the name. I'm sure Lori Piestewa was a good trooper and I thank her for serving but it will always be Squaw Peak to most people.

Unknown said...

You shouldn't worry too much about BO. He's a pawn on the Chessboard. Things can be reset when he's gone.

Mike Slater said...

Jim, Obama got elected by what Rush calls low information voters, many who are minorities. They believed his hope and change crap. These will be the same people that vote for Hillary. Without minority votes Democrats would never win elections.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

One can only hope. He is the sorriest excuse we have ever had for a president.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

Absolutely. Minorities will always vote for liberal Democrats. They feel they are getting the short end of the stick and phony Democrats convince them to vote for them because they will change things in their favor. Of course, they don't do it.

You're right about Obama: He has a great line of crap which they believed especially since he was a member of the minority. To show what a phony Obama is, look at the way he changed his stance on gay marriage after he realized it would help him to approve of it. I will always remember his famous line: "I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman."

What a liar he is; him as his fellow phony wife.

And the plot thickens.

Two New Black Panther members were sentenced for bomb threats in Ferguson. It was rumored there was a terrorist group behind the protests.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

Two more geniuses; what a couple of idiots. The one must think he is the f--king sheik of Araby or something with that head dress. Now, I read where some group is bitching that the cops were too hard on the protesters.

The black situation is this country is not getting any better and I don't expect it to. It's sad because there are a lot of Blacks who are responsible citizens who get unfairly lumped in with the jerks in movements like Black Lives Matter which is nothing but another hate group. I don't blame the cops one bit for their response to these fools.

I never thought I would see the day when I would carry but I never leave home without my .38 loaded and back up shells in the glove box. That's in Scottsdale, AZ where you rarely see any problems. But, one never knows these days; better to be safe than sorry.

Mike Slater said...

Jim, Iv'e had a concealed carry permit for over 16 years and carry all the time. My newest concealed carry weapon is a Ruger LCP in 380 caliber. It's small and easy to carry and holds 6 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. It pays to be careful.

Unknown said...

I'm a member of a gun club with an indoor range and it's got one of those neat target conveyor thingies so I don't have to walk downrange and back. It's nifty.

We never filmed it, but this short movie clip is pretty much like the last gun range I was in. It wasn't real well organized. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2UXm19Un_Y

Jen and I are friends again, Jimmy.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

Sounds like a nice little weapon. My .38 is an old timer from the 1930s; a silver one, 5 shot, pearl handle. My dad gave it to me many years ago. I put it in the glove box whenever we go anywhere, especially at night. I may be a bit paranoid but one never knows; better to be safe than sorry.

I thought in AZ it was OK to carry without a permit. Is that true?

Jim McAllister said...

Great clip, Rick. I loved those Naked Gun films with Leslie Nielsen and the rest of those guys.

Glad to hear you and Jen are an "item" again. My best to her.

Mike Slater said...

Jim, yes you can carry concealed in Arizona without a permit. I believe we are only 1 of 3 states that have it. The reason I keep my permit current is because every few years we travel to Montana to see Deb's sister and all the states we go through recognize my Arizona permit. I won't go to states that don't like California, Oregon and Washington. I never travel back east to blue states either.

Jim McAllister said...

Thanks for the info, Mike. I'm glad that is the law in AZ. Even if it wasn't, I would still carry when I leave home as I don't trust a lot of the characters out on the street these days especially with this idiotic black lives matter bullshit going strong now. Those guys aren't worried about black lives; they are only interested in stealing as much as they can without getting their asses killed.

It's comical to me that those idiots say that black lives matter when they constantly go around doing things that is begging the cops to enforce the law against them. Michael Brown is a good example. He robbed that store then advanced on a police officer when he was told to stop. Baltimore is another good example. The same with the riots and burning in the 1960s. Barb and I couldn't even go to our college graduation in 1967 because we would have had to go through a rioting area. I remember sleeping with my .38 next to the bed and hearing the sirens in the distance.

Unknown said...

No sir, Jen and I are in no way shape or form dating or romantic. Jen says we're too good of friends to date and what would people say?

Ferguson, like all of Missouri, has a terrible drug problem. And that's what's going on in Missouri and I don't tolerate those folks around me. Either Dora gets rid of them or I do. They'll largely do it to themselves like in Ferguson and the riots are nothing compared to your day, Jim.

Newark in 1967 with snipers shooting at cops and national guardsmen. Detroit was just as bad. They aren't even trying in Ferguson compared to the 60's riots.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf9Ea_9QKMI

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

You're right about comparing 1967 to Ferguson. Ferguson is a Sunday school picnic compared to those days in the 60's in Detroit, L. A., Cincy, etc.

We're not dealing with Rhodes Scholars today. Just a bunch of punk losers who are too lazy to work and their only goal is to loot and perform civil disobedience. They hate cops because cops enforce laws and they can't be having any of that when there is a CVS store to loot. They are scum for sure and fortunately are still a minority. I feel sorry for the good Black citizens of this country who want to work, have families, and live a decent lifestyle through honest work.

Unknown said...

Jim, the difference between 1967 and 2015 is that EVERYONE has a smartphone with a video camera.

Police in Ferguson got caught on camera staging a car fire which CNN would then cover as rioters out of control. It's St. Louis County. Go figure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uT0uaZ5Ymeo&spfreload=1

Here's a Michael Brown that you may not have seen in the liberal media where he is filmed beating up an elderly man. This happens everywhere and done by every race. It is the uncivil disobedience. It's why I advocate that elderly people and the disabled should be all armed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nguoNxwycc

Mike Slater said...

Jim, my family took a trip to Detroit in 1967 to visit relatives. Luckily we left a week before the riots started. If I'm not mistaken LBJ sent in the 82nd Airborne to put a stop to it.

The trouble in Ferguson and Baltimore was made worse because the politicians wouldn't let the cops do their job. Time to bring back the police dogs and fire hoses.

My son's a cop here in the Valley and I asked him once what kind of people he deals with and he said scum. He deals with blacks, Latinos and what he calls white trash.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

Sounds (and looks like) the cops aren't so perfect either. I'm glad the Brown clip was around too. Who can we trust today? I still side with the cops even if they aren't perfect. It has to be hell to get up in the morning and put up with the shit they have thrown at them. I guess after a while they have to wonder why they are supposed to protect people who want to kill them. I'm just glad I am in AZ.

I'm always armed at home and when I leave home. I remember when East St. Louis in Illinois was the big battleground. Now it has spread into Missouri. I wonder how many looters even know who Brown was. They are just thieves looking for free stuff. One place they didn't get was that cleaners owned by the Japanese. They stood on the roof armed to the teeth daring those bastards to try burning their place.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

Coincidentally I just replied to a comment from Rick about riots in Ferguson. He sent a couple of good clips with it if you want to check them on the blog.

Yeah, Detroit was a fun place in the '67 riots. To me those rioters didn't know what they hell they were rioting about; they just saw an opportunity to steal stuff. It's the same everywhere with those idiots. I remember the Rodney King riots in L. A. where they were shown stealing TVs and other items from stores that belonged to honest businessmen. One of those stores was owned by Koreans.

That sort of behavior is indicative of lazy ignorance. The kids are brought up to believe that that should be a normal lifestyle. Now, we see cops being killed by the black lives matter fools.. Who do they think they are kidding?

I feel sorry for the upstanding honest Black citizens who are trying to live a normal lifestyle. They deplore that bad behavior but are helpless to do anything about it. Things would be better if guys like Sharpton and Obama weren't around.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

6 dead from gunshots and 31 injured in Chicago the past weekend. The beat goes on; no question who the participants were.

As far as the riots it's a matter of mentality. One group sees no point in stealing and destroying the property of others to show their anger while the other looks at it as an opportunity to steal and burn all they can to avoid having to portray themselves as human beings with brains.

Hmmmmm, I wonder which group is which. I predict there is going to be a backlash one of these days like we have never seen. It's going to be a case of "enough is enough" and some gang like Hell's Angels is going to go down and clean the rats out of their gutters.

I blame Obama for 99% of the problem. He proves it every day with his attitude toward racial strife. A white kid can get shot and killed by Blacks and there is not a peep. But let Trayvon and others get killed and he is all over it. Having him for 7 years has been a chore. Hopefully we can survive his last year.

I did a security sweep of the acreage up on the mountain. There are thieves, poachers and remote meth labs sometimes. Last year someone took the neighbor's portable tree stands and cameras.

Hillbillies and Hillwilliams lives matter. Paranoia matters! Statistics say that about 60 percent of violent crime will be done to me by someone I know. The other 40 percent would be someone from St. Louis County and big cities like that.

I have said for years that violence will start in cities, spread and pretty soon the government will have their excuse for more control. And I was right about the government even creating an illusion of violence with that video. The media will convince people that they themselves need to be controlled with more laws.

Rick,

Obama is the instigator of it all. He encourages divisiveness. This whole thing of shooting cops is absurd but not a peep from the SOB. I don't feel that safe even with my .38. I have to feel that there is an undercurrent building somewhere that is going to explode into revolt. This can't continue.

Fox News released an audio tape of a threat to harm police officers. They didn't have to be the PR source of all the bad guys in the world wanting to pass along a message, you know. But they do make a lot of money stirring up trouble!

September 11 is nearly here. It's national prepping month! It appears that prepping is okay now with DHS. It's okay to buy guns, ammo, and don't buy MRE's. Disgusting! Buy stuff like protein bars, because chances are you're going to be on the run when you grab that go bag. You're going to be spending the first day just trying to figure out what happened. When that fire happened, I'd trained for it. Didn't expect the help of Jen though and it was unexpected and cool! Your emergencies might have angels there too!

Well now DHS is saying common sense stuff like, if someone appears to be measuring distance, taking notes, loitering, observing and anything suspicious. And Prepping is a good thing again. I didn't read a peep about it. http://www.dhs.gov/see-something-say-something/what-suspicious-activity

The UN will be on Fort Leonard Wood to speak to the troops and the public in the surrounding area about what to do with the Syrian refugees. Coincidentally, President Obama has been wanting to desegregate the American population and he doesn't appear to favor Christians. Syrian refugees in the Ozarks. That's a man-made disaster waiting to happen. I have read horrible things that even the Syrian rebels have done to Christians.

The meeting is at Noon today on Fort Wood and there have been refugees in Pulaski County before, but that was a long time ago. The mob violence is gone, the heroin trade is getting cleaned up and Chicago is being pushed out of Missouri.

Rick,

Interesting piece in the Rolla paper.

I'm with you on this. It's a disaster waiting to happen. The Syrian thing is really something with the way they are flocking into Europe. Sounds like we are next.

Jim, just what we need, more illegals in our country like we didn't have enough already. I used to think that Jimmy Carter was the worst president in my lifetime but I was wrong. Obama wins that title hands down.

From what I gather, St. Louis County invited the Syrian refugees to move there. Yeah, they'll fit right in around Ferguson.

Next year, maybe I'll have a small freezer again and the kitchen finished and then I can preserve some fruit, berries and vegetables. Find my groove again. Maybe buy a four-wheeler and a garden tractor with little garden implements. Or container gardening and mow around them. Gonna have to figure out something, because I don't see this economy and government getting any better for a while. Threw a bunch of my peach pits in the woods ... those things grow everywhere!

Seems like the Ozarks might be the best place to live as the nation continues to unravel.

Jim McAllister said...

Mike,

I think Obama passed Carter a long time ago as the worst president. At least Carter was an American and not a Muslim like jerk Obama. Now he gets his way on Iran as the few Dems who held things up caved in and agreed to the deal.

I don't know if you have been reading Rick's blog comments on the blog page but he says a bunch of the Syrians are going to be placed in the Ozarks. That should be interesting!

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

The Syrian thing is a nightmare. Europe is overrun with them trying to escape. I guess there is no way they can fight back. It looks like we will get flooded with them in the US. Europe is already flooded.

Now I see where Baltimore is giving $6.4 million to the family of Freddy Gray. What the hell is that about? I remember when Baltimore was a great city. Now it is run by a bunch of liberal idiots.

This country is going to shit and it starts at the top with Obama.

"It's my F***ing HOME!" Words you NEVER want to say to a judge.

Hey Jimmy, I wasn't even in the courtroom and I've been appointed the guy for Party A to speak to Party B, and Party A is not allowed on his own land or even to charge rent or evict anyone for six months, because Party A cussed at the judge. I couldn't get him for other stuff, but I saw him try to harm a young lady, so I gave her the home for free. So now he's got to come to me for the next six months for anything he wants from his own land, by order of the judge. It's cause I'm a nice guy. Yup. Uh huh. Court said so, so it must be true. Uh huh. True story.

I read about the recent Phoenix area freeway shootings. Seems like they should be able to catch those people. A July news story said that violent crime is increasing in Phoenix, while robberies are down. Three cities have freeway shooters and they are all seen as terrorism. Phoenix, Kansas City and I don't recall the other one.

Jimmy's packin' a rod now and statistics from the NRA, FBI and ATF say that as people buy more guns, violent crime actually decreases. Meanwhile, the Phoenix mayor is on Twitter and he is incredibly positive.

Given that everyone has a smartphone video camera and there are cameras everywhere invading your privacy, it won't be long until they catch those people. Or drivers on I-10 start shooting back.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

Yeah, Phoenix is following the trend of other cities now. Eleven incidents reported so far on the I-10 freeway through south of town. Also, yesterday a cop pulled over a SUV and when they stopped, the guy started firing at him. Luckily the cop wasn't hurt but these incidents are increasing. Although the black population of Phoenix is only 5% I think it might have to do with the black lives matter bullshit. The driver's first name was "Donnoveon" so that tells us something.

I'm glad I am in north Scottsdale and rarely go to those areas. When I moved here in '87 it was a peaceful place but the tentacles of the eastern cities and the influence of a worthless president are starting to become obvious. I never leave home without my gun and although we never know for sure, I'm pretty sure I could shoot someone if they came up and threatened me or my wife. I never thought the day would come when I felt I had to be armed in the USA but here we are.

I'm glad crime is decreasing with the purchase of more guns. Of course, idiot Obama would like to confiscate all guns. I wish he would go down south and give that a try and see what happens. I sure as hell am not anxious to shoot anyone but it's comforting to know that .38 is in the car with me if the situation arises.

I recently read that the number one place to get a gun stolen is from leaving it in the car. Just FYI.

Well, you just be careful, Jimmy. Neither one of us are spring chickens anymore. Limping to cover and slowly getting down and then needing help up to charge! In the Ozarks, if you're carrying a gun, you're actually supposed to identify yourself to a cop being shot at that you're on his side and return fire. If they did that in Phoenix, crime would be wiped out.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

That's a great idea from the Ozarks. It's nice to see someone offering help to the cops these days.

True about not being spring chickens anymore. 74 is nothing like 34.
