PHIL MICKELSON, A CHAMPION IN GOLF AND LIFE

Professional golfer and ASU grad Phil Mickelson has recently spoken about his combined tax hit from the federal government and the State of California going into the 60% to 63% range.  Understandably, Phil is unhappy about such a situation and is considering leaving the golden state.

Mickelson has always come across as one of the really good guys in sports.  He is mannerly, a good family man, and a fan favorite who has had his share of heartaches over his wife’s and mother’s battles with breast cancer.  Through it all, he has smiled, never brushed off autograph seekers, given balls to and gloves to kids, and helped charities.

Phil shows his trophy received for winning the
2000 Buick Invitational
As expected, the day after Phil declared his unhappiness with the tax situation, the $1.98 an hour liberals started coming out of the woodwork calling his statements “controversial” and criticizing him as being a greedy athlete.  Being the guy he is, he actually apologized unnecessarily for his comments about moving from tax heavy California.

On another blog I do (AZC Voices, Politics) one of the fiery female liberal loudmouth contributors took issue with Phil trying to point out that with all the money he makes, he should be glad to pay the higher taxes and that even after paying up would still have more than most people.  It’s as if she is the one who should decide how much money Mickelson should make and how much he deserves to keep.  One of the favorite statements from liberals is:  “Gosh, how much do you need?”  My answer is “None of your damned business”.

This is the classic liberal mentality that we have to put up with today.  They believe that taking more than half of someone’s income is only right because it is their supposed “fair share”.  Of course, with the above mentioned female blogger who derogatorily referred to Mr. Mickelson as “dear sweet Phil”, she loves looking at successful people as needing to pay more taxes to prop up the almost 50% who don’t pay any taxes.  Maybe if she tried to play golf, she would realize what an impossible game it is and give guys like Mickelson the respect they deserve.

Actually, she wouldn’t because that is not the way liberals think.  They don’t want a wealthy class; they want everyone equal with the rich doing the heavy lifting and giving more to those beneath them.  That’s the type of mentality that saps initiative away from the makers of the world and why we have a liberal president who wants job killing items like a $9 per hour minimum wage while squandering millions to losers like Solyndra and Tesla.

The good news is that his approval ratings have slipped in a couple of important polls.  Maybe America is finally seeing the light.

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson is doing well this weekend in the Northern Trust Open in Los Angeles.  I would love to see him win it and pocket another million bucks.

Hey Jim great observations, yeah it's pretty bad when a guy who any thinking person knows is right has to back it up over some silly notion that money is community property and it's not right that some have more than others.

out of breath.

I was a pretty good all around athlete growing up and I am amazed that these guys can be as consistent as they are with that type of pressure.
I bet that blogqueen takes every deduction she can legally and then some on her taxes.. probably gets an (un) Earned Income Tax Credit if the truth be known.

Middy,

Thanks.

Check out her blog sometime on AZ Voices. Her name is Donna Gratehouse. She is a liberal's liberal.

She probably makes $8 an hour at some dead end job and wants everyone else to suffer too because she is a failure.

She has really drank the liberal potion and blasts a local guy named Glen Hamer for writing a letter to Mickelson telling him he is welcome back in AZ.

He lived here for 10 years after ASU; I'd love to see him return.

I am so sick and tired of those idiotic / uneducated / stupid (pick one...or 2 or 3) leftists ranting and wailing about "fairness", with no concept of what the term actually means nor how it should be applied or interpreted.
I personally believe that a fair federal tax system would be 10% on all personal income with no deductions, including those whose income is primarily or totally any form of welfare or retirement, for all incomes at or above $30K, and 3% for all others.
I also believe that no federal position outside of elective office, and not including military, should pay more than the average of equal "civilian" salaries.
I believe that every individual receiving federal "sustenance" or "welfare" income should be required to earn such income by performing such labor or service as limited only by mental or physical ability, and that any existing limits on wages or salaries existing should not apply to such welfare recipients.
Hehe.....this is just a beginning....after repealing the 17th Amendment, and clarifying the 14th.

Jim,Donna Greathouse is a piece of work isn't she. Her parents had to be hippies for her to be that liberal.

Oh the horror of wanting to keep more of your own money. If I was Phil I'd be moving to Texas or Florida that have no state income taxes.

In the twisted mind of liberals a fair share is taking from those that actually work for a living and giving it to those that they consider poor.

The trouble with socialism that Obama and other liberals want is as former Prime Minister Margret Thatcher said "eventually you run out of other people's money."

This country was founded on the idea of equal opportunity not equal outcome.

As the great Winston Churchill said, "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, it's inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

If the truth was to be known.....these libs could tax the rich at 100% every year....and it would only run the government for 100 days.....so the govt is the one that needs to go on a diet...don't you agree?

Not according to "the dear one" he says we don't have a spending problem..we just need to make the rich pay a little bit more..

Damn right. A lot of these people are so used to getting something for nothing that they need a big time wake up call.

Mike,

Donna G. is a typical liberal. She says she has a boyfriend; sounds suspicious to me.

I can't believe any guy could put up with her unless he is some non working, earth shoe wearing, dope smoking loser who just wants to live off her $1.98 an hour.

The politics blog is stuffed with liberals now that they added Bozo the clown to the list. Me, Tom Patterson, and Jim Barber are the only conservatives; the rest are typical whiny losers especially that big crybaby James Garcia, the "playwright." What a joke he is.

I never asked to be on there but they put me on automatically during the November election so I thought I'd do it for a while.

So far I'm getting a lot of hits because most of them just write the same boring liberal crappola every day.

They along with the rest of the media have deluded themselves into thinking they will be an integral part of the new America, they might want to read some history of what happened to the newly downgraded useful idiot once the process of fundamental transformation is complete- they either disappear in the night or find out their thoughts are no longer necessary- but it will be too late to point to the first amendment as any longer being their right because they trashed the second.

Middy,

There are only about 7 regular bloggers on that AZ Central Voices site and they are mainly libs.

I post once a week, that's enough for me. Mike and Bozo are on several times a week although it's too soon to tell if Bozo will last; I don't think he gets much action. Gee, I wonder why: He did a blog about how delicious horse meat is. Go figure.

Most of the rest of the 40 or so other people don't post at all. They were like me; we were just added at election time to comment on that event and 99% of them disappeared.

I stick with it just for the hell of it to see how many hits I can get doing 4 blogs a month.

So far, I have had a lot of action getting as high as 97 hits on a November entry about how Obama has divided the country and getting 82 on a blog about Walter Winchell.

I love waxing liberals.

Jim McAllister said...

That's about right. These guys are born spenders. As Middy says, they think that everyone's assets are their community property.

Look at Obama now: He in Florida for a few days to play golf with no interest apparently concerning the sequester.

He is dumber than I thought he was if he thinks he will get another tax hike on the rich to cover his extravagances.

Hi Jim,

The tax system has always bothered me. I believe we should have a flat tax for all people. Sure I enjoy my deductions for a high mortgage and all, but if we had a flat tax I’d be ok with that because everyone would be paying an identical ‘share’ regardless of income level and family situations.

It bothers me to have a higher tax bracket because I make more money than some people. I came up from public housing to a beautiful home in Carefree because I worked hard and got an education (Mom worked 2 jobs), sacrificed, and made compromises. No one handed me effen anything. I am childless and don’t regret that. It has its downsides and upsides. It was my choice, just as it was someone else’s choice to have four or five kids. I shouldn’t be subsidizing that. And a key pissed-off point of mine is that although I only went to public school for 12 years, for 37 working years I have had some of my taxes subsidizing education for other people’s children when I have none.

I don’t think the ‘rich’ should be taxed highly. I am not rich, but I don’t begrudge them what they have worked for and earned. Penalizing someone for success is to my way un-American. That California situation is utter garbage. I would move to another state that doesn’t see financial rape of a successful person as a way of life.

I understand it’s even worse in countries like England, which is why many famous musical artists have relocated. That being said, I am disgusted with Gerard Depardiu (sic) for acquiring Russian citizenship to avoid high French taxes. Russia? Guess I am just a child of the Cold War and don’t like them very much.

Middy: I think women should be part of the combat forces, but, yes, they should also be subject to a draft if men are, and have to accept the same dangers and risks. 'Equality' comes with a price, although some fems don't put their money where their mouth is. On the other hand, I am against women in some jobs, like being a corections officer at a men's prison. Really? Seriously? Guess I am just a rational feminist, not a rabid one.

The government set the rich up, but good.

Bernie Madoff was USED. Enemy nations illegally invested with him and it was just a matter of time. I know the Bush family knew it. They all knew.

Deregulation was a trick and the wealthy fell for it, hook, line and sinker.

The banksters gave the government the excuse they needed to make sure that the rich not only be punished with high taxes, but be controlled with tight regulations.

Violence was encouraged by the political commentators on both sides and when it happened, the government has their excuse for tighter gun laws.

Illegal immigrants have ALWAYS been used in the past for collapsing Communist countries.

Economic terrorism is an old CIA trick. It's used by China too.

But who would benefit if America were to be forced to change and disarm? Obama's too small. He's a puppet, but for whom?

The Republicans have their version of this mess. The global government will be created and that's just the way it is, folks.

You gotta know that no matter what we do, the government has already planned for it. G.W. Bush even expected food riots, didn't he? It's gonna happen.

Obama's trying to be another JFK and Lincoln. Has he forgotten what happened to JFK when he bucked the rich?

I can't believe how powerful envy and jealousy are....

Any clear thinking person can easily see that there can never be enough money raised to satisfy big governments insatiable appetite to spend....

There are already reams of new spending bills collecting dust just waiting to be "attached" to any new tax increase, beyond those existing proposals are millions of spending dreams in the minds of every politician.

No matter the amount raised, politicians (many well intentioned, most self serving), will have already spent the new increase and MORE, before a single penny ever trickles into the government coffers....

Were it not for this irrational, jealousy driven line of thinking, most everyone would see that our politicians at every level are completely addicted to, and dependent on, spending money....Giving them more does nothing to help anyone, except the politicians clout...

Glo said...

Rick: Just because your housekeeper makes a small wage doesn't mean that other people should pick up the taxation slack. My taxes went up $200/month - and all my utilities and insurance bills went up, too. Am I getting anything extra for these costs? Nope. But that's the way life is.

And, seriously, if she makes 'almost nothing,' who's paying her that 'almost nothing?' Is it because her employer has his own bills to legitimately pay?

We are who we are, and I don't think the 'rich' should have to compensate for those less fortunate due to circumstance, bad luck, or bad choices.

As to Russia, do you know what their tax rate is?

Russia Income Taxes and Tax Laws 2012
Last partial update, May 2012.

Russia has a uniform rate of tax on the income of individuals. As of 2012 tax in Russia is payable at the rate of 13% for an individual on most income. (non-residents 30%). Russian residents pay 9% on dividend income. (Deduction at source).
Non-residents pay 15% on dividend income.
Exemptions are granted to certain income earners.
The standard rate of Russia corporate profit tax in 2012 is 20%.
Companies pay 9% tax on dividend income. Under certain terms dividend income received by companies with holding of 50% or more is entitled to participation exemption.

Russia Income Tax for an Individual

An individual is liable for tax on his income as an employee and on income as a self-employed person. Tax will be payable on income earned in Russia and overseas by an individual who meets the test of a "permanent resident" of Russia.
A foreign resident who is employed in Russia pays tax only on income earned in Russia.
To be considered a Russian resident, residence must be established of at least 183 days in Russia during 12 months in a calendar year.
An employer is obligated to deduct, immediately, each month, the amount of tax and national insurance due from a salaried worker.
A self-employed individual is obligated to make advance payments on income tax that will be offset on filing an annual report. In the case of a new business, the advance payments will be calculated on the basis of the business owner's estimate. The advance payments will be made at least 3 times in each year.
Certain payments are deductible from taxable income as detailed below.

Russia Corporate Tax

The tax on company profits is made up of 2 rates:
- Federal tax - -2%.
- Regional tax - 18% (with a possible incentive reduction of up to 4.5%).
The maximum profit tax is 20%.

Russia Capital Gains

Capital Gains (for an individual)

The standard rate of tax is 13% for a resident and 30% for a foreign resident.
The profit on the sale of real estate or other asset that has been held for 3 years is exempt from tax.
Sale of certain Russian shares bought after 1.1.2011 and held for more than five years are tax exempt.
The maximum deduction on the sale of residential real estate held for less than 3 years is RUR 1 million. On the sale of another asset the deduction is RUR 250,000.

Capital Gains (for a corporation) in Russia

The standard rate of tax for a corporation is identical to the tax on its regular income.
Sale of certain Russian shares bought after 1.1.2011 and held for more than five years are tax exempt.
A capital loss on the sale of a fixed asset may be offset against income in the following years. The offset is spread over the remaining useful life of the asset that has been sold.
There is no cost inflation adjustment for capital gains.

Rich? Not by a LONG shot. White? Absolutely. Hoarding my money? You betcha - AFTER paying my FAIR SHARE of high taxes.

My life 'handed ' to me? No. Effen. Way. I grew up in poor public housing, and if I followed the usual pattern of life there, by rights I should have been knocked up by three different guys by the time I was twenty and sucking down welfare like no tomorrow. But my mom struggled to get me a good education and worked her fingers to the bone. And I've been a contributing member of society paying taxes for nearly 40 years with NO ONE helping me get a house, pay my bills, etc.

Deny the poor kiddies an education or clean air. Oh come on! All I'm saying is that people shouldn't pay forever to help educate the next and next and next generations, especially when they have no 'dog in the fight.' Taxes could easily be decreased from paychecks for that purpose if our goivernement stoped giving away our tax money to foreign countries that hate us and to silly projects like studying the mating habit of fruit flies.

And, shockingly, I doubt that in my old age the government or any of our youngsters are going to take care of me. So I plan for taking care of myself, and if that were to cost a 5th grdaer a new iPad, well, damn, that's just ... tragic. Simply tragic.

It's no slam against women but in a hand to hand combat situation, a man is simply stronger. It wasn't my decision; it's a law of nature.

We are on the same page. A flat tax would be the way to go but probably will never happen.

Can you imagine the 47% who pay nothing suddenly having to support themselves?

The trouble is there are so many like that who all support Obama that they run the show.

I've said it before and I still think that some type of civil war is going to happen with this guy as president. He just got his tax increase on the rich 2 months ago and now he wants another one.

As Middy says, he looks at everything that we own as community property that the government should have access to. Patience with his crap is starting to bend as his popularity drops and it will eventually break.

Paramount in the Statist mindset is the unshakable belief that property rights including currency is the property of the collective and any asymmetry in wealth accumulation is due to the theft of that wealth from the collective.

That philosophy exonerates government from criticism over hare brained schemes like the Volt and Solyndra because in their unicorn infested world they are actually using their own resources thereby elevating them above criticism for predictable absolute and abject failure.

Individuals in Statist regimes are only granted temporary usage of those commodities in the Statist mindset.

Middy, Actually I don't really know what a libertarian is. I do know that I am not a liberal or a conservative: what I 'am' depends on the topic at hand.

For example, I am pro-choice (although I do NOT believe in giving away free contraceptiuves in school or anywhere else), but totally believe in the death penalty, as long as we use it sooner and more often. I believe women should be allowed in any job, but I do not approve of them in some jobs like a men's prison guard).

I believe we should have welfare for a SHORT, non-renewable period of time to help someone get on their feet, not as a generational thing (man, I aw that in public housing!). If a woman is on welfare and we're paying for two kids, and she decides to get knocked up again by another baby daddy, we should not pay for child #3, 4, etc.

I am absolutely for same-sex marriage and benefits for long-term same-sex partners in states where marriage isn't yet possible; I don't believe in significant-other benefits for heteroes because they have the option and right to marry.

I believe the US government should stop the f--k giving our money away to other countries, and also cut back on home policies that encourage dependence on someone stepping up to the plate when the person doesn't want to.

I don't believe that any upcoming social security or medicare benefits should be reduced for the generation that has paid into them for forty years.

I am disgusted with second-inauguration wasteful spending: You made it to a swecond term, great, but don't use taxpayer money to fund the parties. And cut down on inauguration #1 one costs, too!

And, Jesus - don't let Aretha Franklin and Beyonce sing any more!

..that is a pretty good litmus test you took, the answer to the libertarian issue is one of motivation, I share a lot of the same opinion as any conservative thinker, but a libertarian line of thinking has to come from an awareness of Natural Law and it's ultimate authority over man.

Aristotle once made mention of the unexamined mind and it's pitfalls.
Libertarianism probably doesn't include all libertarians, if that makes sense, the libertarian mindset is rooted in the individual's moral guidepost which would not be accepted by someone who is a low information bound herd creature.

Groupthink will simply not allow the cultivation of individual thought.
but you know this already..

I have my personal observations like you, for one I believe that the war on drugs just like the war on poverty has been lost and should be abandoned, I imagine some of my fellow conservatives would strongly disagree, but that doesn't mean that common ground can't be found unless religious or agenda based dogma controls the conversation.

A truthful discussion where everyone agrees to surrender their bias to discuss matters in the light of Reason.

Of course that will never happen with Statists be they either conservative or Socialist.
But just because someone doesn't agree exactly with me doesn't mean that I discount them as a thinking person, however you have to have some limit.

BTW- I worked in a level IV men's prison and while I agree in principle, I did work with some very professional and competent female's.
I also worked with Gays and Lesbians who were very professional and I worked with government overtime drones as well, it's not black and white when it comes to people sometimes.

I've been reading the Republic since the 60's and it used to be a conservative paper until Gannett took over. Since that time it's become liberal.

Montini, Roberts and Valdez all have some things in common. They don't like Sheriff Joe, the Republican legislature or Jan Brewer. They do like illegals though.

The funny part is if you read Valdez's blogs 99% of the people commenting disagree with her.

It's sad that Arizona doesn't have a conservative newspaper. If we did the Republic would go out of business just like the Tucson Citizen did.

My mom worked for the Hartford Housing Authority for 19 years, and had a very extensive experience with welfare recipients and 'poor' people. I heard all the horror stories when she'd come home from work. Like, all of them.

She told me how the welfare people, men and women, would come in demanding their checks and additional services as though they were absolutely entitled to them and screw the workers who were trying to help.

There were many people who came in screaming about rotten landlords and how garbage was littering the alley and cans. I always hated those terrible, horrible landlords for sneaking in at night and leaving all that garbage around. Meanies!!

I remember when Hartford tried to institute Workfare, where the welfare people would have to work some hours a week to get their checks. They were OUTRAGED!!!!! Work for the money? NFW! Absurd!

Imagine how she and other working people felt when they had to 'help' these people who treated them like dirt.

Middy, I forgive you. Not sure if I'm ready to say, pax, or not. If you say it, I'll say it, but if you don't say pax, I won't say pax.

Jimmy, I'm sick of being sick and I DO NOT DO hospitals. Or doctors.

I went to GNC and got a replacement for the hypertension pill. I hold water on my abdomen if I don't take it and if I do take it, I feel sick. So I got this Xpel. Maximum strength diuretic. I also got this L-carnitine 1000. It's supposed to be good for muscles and stuff. The heart is a muscle.

And cameras. Jimmy mentioned cameras.

I bought a Sony Handycam HDR-PJ260V and it has an external microphone jack and a projector so that folks can see what I just recorded. I got it at the military PX for a sweet price. I used the money that I got for the truck.

Was gonna spend the money on fixing the barn into a studio, but a board is cheap in comparison to a really good video camera.

"My mom worked for the Hartford Housing Authority for 19 years, and had a very extensive experience with welfare recipients and 'poor' people. I heard all the horror stories when she'd come home from work. Like, all of them."

I'm a watchdog of government programs and agencies. It's a hobby.

My mother had cancer and I clearly remember the welfare authority refusing her for some stupid tiny little thing. I called them monsters for sentencing her to death.

It's a kind of burnout that those people in the offices have after a while. It's as if they lose all their humanity. The VA does the same thing. They get people killed with their apathy and there should have been counseling for them, or transfers, but instead, they just fire them.

In 2005, an investigator with child services found nothing wrong in a home. Two weeks later, a boy died. Millions of cockroaches all over the body. Emergency responders were vomiting. The state buried the case. Fired the investigator.

The poor feel "entitled," because they're kept in a kind of storage, until they're employable again.

Well, since 1980, programs for the poor and homeless have been improving. Autism clinics. College. But it's still just warehousing.

The poor are taught to go job hunting. The poor aren't taught to use their rake and shovel and try to start a business. The poor aren't taught that they can educate themselves on Youtube.

No, people in government authority want to keep their jobs, so they just bitch. It's a form of entitlement. They even demand to be in unions sometimes.

Do you realize the work it takes to become good enough to make a lot of money playing golf? It's the hardest game in the world and getting good at it is not easy.

Mickelson has devoted his life to being one of the best. Should he be punished for that just because he makes good money?

That required a lot of hard work and it's not his fault that it happens to be a high paying game.

Do you think it is right for government to take 60% of what he makes just because he is rich?

Joe Finnerty has left a new comment on your post "PHIL MICKELSON, A CHAMPION IN GOLF AND LIFE":

Phil has good reason to complain about California’s taxes which have long exceeded those imposed by many other states. This induces people and companies to move elsewhere. I relocated here almost a half century ago, although not for that reason. But it didn’t hurt when I discovered my property taxes were exactly half of what I had paid while residing in California the year before in a home one third smaller. Should I have apologized before moving? Okay, I’m sorry to be so late, but I apologize.

However, I caution folks to use percentages cautiously when discussing taxes.

In this time period, I have remained in the same home. My property tax has increased 225%. Sounds fierce, right? The actual dollar amount: a thousand bucks.

I invite you and other readers to compare the amount of federal income taxes paid each year for the past ten with your gross income, (not adjusted). How many of you paid sixty percent? Fifty? Forty? Do I hear thirty? Twenty? For all of the talk about taxes, few of us can recall precisely how much we paid.

Of course, working stiffs have seen a gigantic increase in FICA payments over the years, and perhaps that amount should be added to the income tax paid to better reflect net income.

Speaking of income, I used to ask employees what percentage raise they received the previous year. Amazingly, few could recall. What they did remember, it wasn’t as much as they wanted or thought they deserved.

I enjoyed reading about the Russian tax structure. It would be a shame if Phil decides to move to Moscow to save a few bucks for his old age. Nyet, I say, nyet.

Jim McAllister said...

Joe,

Thanks for your response.

Mickelson has a strong tie to Scottsdale and I wish he would move back here.

It has to be difficult for him to do that though since his family is in San Diego and that is home to him from childhood.

But, it will probably be a business decision and since he is so well liked here and had a lot of success, moving back wouldn't be like going to Fargo or some other garden spot.

To tell him he has to pay in the 60% range seems out of line but no one ever accused California of making much sense especially under the present regime.

I'm afraid that if Washington gets their way on all of the give away programs they have in mind, we will all be unhappy.

ArizonaDave said...

Jim, you're right....Obama and the Left want to equalize the money between the doers and the non doers...makes no difference how hard you try to achieve and succeed, they want you to pay an enormous amount in taxes to provide monies to those who have given up and are not trying to succeed....

I always thought that your charity views were part of your church in picking people up and getting them to the next level....not the government, but then you've got to understand where Obama came from...and the theory of penalizing the overchievers will always be with us with Obama in office.

Phil has a personal decision to make because California needs much money for the nonachievers who have quit trying....and many other states are in that same category...review each state's tax laws and then weigh all the factors(family, climate, roots & opportunities) where you and your family want to live...GO FOR IT PHIL....

Rantin' Glozilla said...

"So the best answers that ANY of you people can come up with to save America is by forcing people on entitlements to work for a living or starve?"

Seriously, Rick? As noted before, I have no issue giving people a helping hand for a LIMITED amount of time, but people, yes, do have to make every effort to be productive citizens and shoulder their fair share of work and taxes.

No one is trying to take assistance away from disabled or elderly people, and certainly not veterans, but able-bodied people have an obligation of personal decency at the very least to make an effort. Too many don't, and they ruin it for everyone.

I absolutely do have a problem with having my HARD-EARNED (note the key word 'earned') taxes subsidizing a welfare mother with four kids and because she can't keep her legs together is gestating a fifth - and with no intention of paying herself for any of them (forget the baby daddies).

I am not rich, but I have earned every single penny without asking for help or handouts, and if I had achieved the subjectiveness level of 'rich,' that would also be the case. I don't 'owe' anybody a godd---d thing, but I have made time in the last 13 years to assist the elderly and disabled on my own time and cost because those are the people this society neglects. Would I willingly help a man or woman who can work at something and make some sort of living but prefers not to? Hell no.

Our society is class-based and economics-based; always has been and probably always will be. People make choices or are born into some circumstances that are not as conducive to a good life as others; I would like to have been born a Kennedy and have that $$$ at my disposal, but I wasn't. Big fat hairy deal. That's life.

But 'class' in its most esthetic nature, has to do far less with monetary considerations than with the concepts of dignity, honor, integrity, and self-respect. Those people draining our society have none of those qualities, and so I cannot either respect them or desire to help them.

Jim: Sorry, but you and I diverge on Joan Rivers. I think she is the most repulsive, obnoxious creature third on the list down from Honey Boo Boo and the Progressive chick, Flo.

And this one: "Do you think it is right for government to take 60% of what he makes just because he is rich? Since you voted for Obama, you obviously think so. Would you like the government to take 60% of what you make?"

You know, I have already explained the reason why I voted for Obama this past time around repeatedly on this blog &, suffice to say, intelligence is not measured by the degree to which a comment agrees with your personal political preferences. Dave,

He gets his tax increase two months ago on the rich and now he wants another. The funny part was that the increase he got would run the government about a week. It is just his ploy of demeaning the makers into paying the way of the non makers.

It's like this recent nonsense about government paid preschool for 4 year old kids. Fine if parents want pre school but why should we pay for it? It is their responsibility, not ours.

Now I see where even a lot of Dems are disagreeing with his immigration policies.

This guy is a real challenge in this country. I know what will happen within the next couple of years. He will start harping for a third term. God help us if he gets it.

It's sad to think that we have so many people who are living on the dole and enjoying every moment of it and loving Obama for it.

What happened to the initiatives of the past when people had honor and a conscience?

Jim McAllister said...

CJ,

Yeah, pro golfers have it so rough..

Sorry, but when you make statements like that, you lose some credibility.

I know you are not an authority on professional golf so how do you know it is so easy that they don't don't have it rough?

You sound like that girl on the Politics blog calling him "dear sweet Phil" and saying that he will will have a lot of money even after the 60% tax bite.

That's not the point. Just because he is rich is no reason why he should have to pay that much in taxes because of an out of control, poor decision making government.

As far as pro golfers, not all of them are automatically rich. It takes a lot of hard work to achieve that and guys like Mickelson work as hard as anybody in the workforce to achieve success.

midnightsstaff said...

forget it Jim, that dog just chases cars out of habit.

Jim McAllister said...

Rick,

I hate that word "entitlements" especially as it applies to a lot of shiftless bastards who could be working but prefer not to simply because Obama says they don't have to.

If someone has paid their way over the years and has fallen on misfortune FROM NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN, I can see them getting some assistance until they can recover and return to productivity.

However, with a lot of people getting the free stuff, they have no intention of leaving the gravy train under any circumstances.

That is the problem we have in this country.

Obama loves this sort of thing because with the attitude of many today who love drinking beer at 8:00 in the morning instead of being responsible citizens.

It wasn't always this way but the liberal mentality is very easy to latch onto for those who have no honor or integrity.

The reason I retired at 50 and Deb at 55 was because we worked hard all our lives and saved and invested wisely, or as CJ said we were lucky.

CJ,

It's not just the California taxes killing Mickelson; a lot of it is federal that gets it up to 60-63%.

Here is what Jon Lovitz, formerly of SNL, said last year about Obama and his taxes.

"This whole thing with Obama saying the rich don't pay their taxes is f**king bullsh**. And I voted for the guy, and I'm a Democrat.

What a f**king a**hole. The rich don't pay their taxes? Let me tell you something, right. First they say to you, you're dead broke, 'the United States of America, you can do anything you want, go for it.' So then you go for it and then you make it, and everyone's like 'f**k you.'"

"I voted for the guy, and I'm a Democrat. What a f**king a**hole"
- Jon Lovitz on President Obama
He went on to say, “If I make a dollar and out of every dollar I’m taxed at 50, half, at 50 cents, I have to give, isn’t that like enough? It’s half. HALF!”

BTW, Deb and I are going to apply for Social Security this year so we need you to keep working. As Obama said we need to spread the wealth.

Then, bit by bit, the face of freedom hardens, and by and by it is the old face of tyranny.
Then another cycle, and another.
But under the play of all these opposites there is something fundamental and permanent — the basic delusion that men may be governed and yet be free.

The majority of men prefer delusion to truth. It soothes. It is easy to grasp. Above all, it fits more snugly than the truth into a universe of false appearances—of complex and irrational phenomena, defectively grasped.

Politics, under a democracy, reduces itself to a mere struggle for office by flatterers of the proletariat; even when a superior man prevails at that disgusting game he must prevail at the cost of his self-respect. Not many superior men make the attempt. I see where the airspace around Aspen or wherever she was skiing was closed off while she was there. I guess they were afraid everyone may want to leave BECAUSE of her.

She said that she is now wearing the wig because she feels she is in a "mid life crisis."

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2013/02/17/bob_woodward_sequester_was_obamas_idea.html

To listen to Obama it's those mean Republicans that want the sequester....And it's all up to him, Obama, champion of the little guy, to stand tall, protecting teachers, first responders, and all the little people who depend upon their vital services...
(BTW, since when does the federal government pay firemen and teachers?)

The easily fooled are again being easily fooled, they stand and cheer their champion, never realizing what BUNK the whole sequester thing really is.

BUNK because: ....Government discretionary spending has grown by 14% several years in a row, and now a 5% cut is the end of the world?

BUNK because:....the sequester amounts to $85 billion, half of which is military, that means at least the way Obama told it today, just $42.5 billion dollars in cuts to our discretionary spending....will bring about the end of days (fear monger much?)

Somehow that amount, an amount BTW, billions less than they are spending to clean up a single (Sandy) storm, will bring about the destruction of our economy, while kids will go uneducated, fires will have to burn themselves out?

Come on you Obama defending dolts...Look, better yet THINK.....You are being played for the biggest suckers ever....

Man the British press puts ours to shame when it comes to royal beat downs, I could only wish the Limy kickouts we get could have a set.

Be nice for someone to start pointing out that the Washington Mosque is not a Camelot like they have been lying to us over.
You can't believe a word they say anymore, given a neutral choice the average CNN anchor chooses to lie just out of habit.

..frick'n Bek..Pavlov's dog every one of them.

..those were the fantastic Gretzky years, what a derelict ship that era was, saddled themselves up with Mr. Ed the turnover and stupid penalty king and trotted out a series of so so goalies, no direction.
Now two out of three components are in place to make it work and there is no chance whatsoever.
enjoy the season but don't make any bets either.

"Rick: Just because your housekeeper makes a small wage doesn't mean that other people should pick up the taxation slack. My taxes went up $200/month - and all my utilities and insurance bills went up, too. Am I getting anything extra for these costs? Nope. But that's the way life is."

Lana has cancer and is going in for surgery on Thursday. She has no insurance. Everyone is pitching in to pay for it.

The doctors say that malnutrition from the morphine caused my organ damage it's not bad, they say. Yeah, I got off their pills and the numbers on the blood tests dropped, because I know from my wife's organ damage what to do. It's only a matter of time.

I'm trying to get this video business going and Lana works for me. I promised to take her to some tropical beach someday. A couple of goat farmers on a beach trying to figure out what the fish are bitin' on.

Lana's got cancer, her dad is going blind, her mom recently had a heart attack and lived, and I can't take pills, can't drink too much soda, gotta eat well the doctors say. Lana is usually the highlight of my week, when she does the dishes.

But today, she did the narration on a PSA that I'm doing and it's REALLY good!

But last night, I almost drowned in bed. I woke up at 2 a.m. choking. This organ damage crap sucks.

You make choices, the same as me. After the wife died, I missed simplicity. Dora would have preferred Flagstaff. Yeah, I'd take her urn with me and Lana too.

We can be bad and hang out with SN. Be irresponsible in our final years.

You are better than a C&W celebrity Rick, you are a whole C&W song- more like an album.

Gets a bit spooky here talking to myself and Rick- glad you are up and off the death bed.. from what you were telling us I was going to start up a funeral collection- guess we can buy a twelve pack of PBR and drink it in the Walmart parking lot instead.
You might have missed it but Formerly Proud to be asked you a specific question, did you notice it?

I could research it for you but that might be considered an insult.
..we still remain under that pax remember?
You were going to stay off the over the hill singer and I was going to lay off the axe handle.

..pinata.

well to the subject at hand we are all waiting for your response to the specific question- shouldn't take someone of your raw investigative skills to get it resolved...

"Obama is a master at fooling people. (well people like CJ at least)"

Actually, John, I was still trying to decide who to vote for when Paul Ryan sealed the deal for me by saying that side of the debate planned to deny me my social security check when I become eligible while continuing to lift a percentage of money I work everyday to earn so they can pay people like Mike, Paul Ryan's mother, & you too I suppose. Did I say lift? I meant steal, of course. So Obama had nothing to do with my choice except by being the lesser of two ffff-ed up choices. And I never let you push me over, have I? But then again, that comment did come from a 'man' without the balls to face me on facebook so I guess I should have just considered the source & ignored your comment.

Middy, the only thing Rick needs to do a C&W album is to have his dog die. That would complete all his tales of woe.

.."For the first time in recent history, you’re going to see people hungry and out in the streets. Those unprepared or those thinking this is all [expletive deleted], desperate and begging for food. Think Katrina, but on a national scale. That’s what is being planned for Americans, and few people are willing to see what’s happening, or willing to believe it".

Like I was telling you Jim, just a few years ago I would have laughed at this type of talk, from what I can see there is nothing to be taken at face value anymore.

And Obama is playing for keeps.

We just can't get enough of the barrage of half truth and outright lies that's being presented on that Sandy Hook massacre.

..save me a seat on that train to Willoghby would ya?- it's either that or room 101.

The devout cowboy lost his favorite Bible while he was mending fences out on the range. Three weeks later, a horse walked up to him carrying the Bible in its mouth. The cowboy couldn't believe his eyes. He took the precious book out of the horse's mouth, raised his eyes heavenward and exclaimed, "It's a miracle!" "Not really," said the horse. "Your name is written inside the cover."

sorry, I know.. off topic.

Better break out that North Scottsdale issued snow shovel Jim, they are saying you might be getting dusted a bit today..

Yeah, if I did dream I would dream of a Willoghby break every once in a while.

Just a break from the lowlife wealth distribution army would be enough, but that is impossible in the new normal.

.."Actually, John, I was still trying to decide who to vote for when Paul Ryan sealed the deal for me by saying that side of the debate planned to deny me my social security check when I become eligible while continuing to lift a percentage of money I work everyday to earn so they can pay people like Mike, Paul Ryan's mother, & you too I suppose. This is scary stuff to realize that the awareness level is so low in the minds of some voters that they need to find one over riding issue even if it is a bald faced lie to justify their criminal intent. it also helps them ignore the fact the person they are voting for has an identical vision as a dictator that ran for Chancellor in the thirties German.
..people like this are not citizens- just parasites.

Even if that one issue is a complete lie they will use it to justify ignorance, in truth Social Security will not be there when you are Cj and it has nothing to do with one party over another..

..you are just another useful idiot that should not be allowed to vote in a free country trying to convince us you are not just another freeshitarmy volunteer.
it doesn't work.

A Jew and an Arab go into a bakery. The Arab steals three pastries and puts them in his pocket. He says to the Jew, “See how good I am? The owner didn’t see anything!”

The Jew says to the Arab, “I am going to show you there is nobody better than a Jew.” He goes to the owner and says, “Give me a pastry and I will show you a magic trick.”

Intrigued, the owner accepts and give him a pastry. The Jew swallows it and ask for another one. The owner gives him another one. Then the Jew asks for another one and swallows it.

The owner starts to wonder where the magic is and says, “What did you do with the pastry? Are you trying to fool me?”

The Jew answers, “Look in the Arab’s pocket.”

“Well, ultimately, Congress makes the decisions about whether or not we spend money and whether or not we keep this government open… I think [a government shutdown] would be a mistake. I think it would be profoundly damaging to our economy… But they’re elected representatives, and folks put them into those positions and they’re going to have to make a decision about that.”

One ball lied... erh... I mean "said that" after (HIS) idea of automatic cuts to avoid a fiscal cliff was accepted only because sides couldn't reach an agreement before the election.
*bump*

.." “Are you willing to see a bunch of first responders lose their jobs because you want to protect some special interest loophole?” Obama said from the White House, where he was surrounded by emergency personnel who could be furloughed or laid off if the cuts move forward.
“Are you willing to see teachers laid off or kids lose access to Head Start?” he said".
-Obama said while lying yesterday.

The event was the latest effort by Obama to increase pressure on House Republicans, who have repeatedly argued it was the president himself who agreed to include the sequester as part of a 2011 deal to raise the debt ceiling.

Cj and the rest of the army of dumpster divers of course easily accept Obama's lies but somehow was turned off by Ryan's truthfulness that Social Security is broke, will need changes to save it and will not be solvent past this decade but rejected the truth- not out of any sense of right and wrong but because she is not giving up her access to the offal trough.

.. how about the promise to cut the deficit in half he gave you years ago?- oh did you forget about that?

I have more respect for the thinking of a Rick or any other whack job over a deliberate parasite who's only interest is to offer stupid excuses for her love for freeeee and empty promises.

I noticed he made no mention of Secret Service, Homeland Security or IRS agents listed as taking cuts- just head start and the usual crap we need to get rid of anyway... did you?

you are a complete fool.

Special Statement

.."Scattered showers... producing a mix of small hail and snow... will
continue to affect portions of the greater Phoenix metropolitan area
through at least 530 PM. Some of the areas that will continue to see
stronger showers are... Peoria... Phoenix... Scottsdale... Cave
Creek... and Fountain Hills. Accumulations of one or two inches of
hail on freeways and local roadways will make driving conditions
hazardous and difficult... and it will take several hours for hail to
melt and runoff. Motorists should drive with caution during the
afternoon commute as roadways will be slick and slushy."
